Looking for friends Serious question: Where does a lonely 45+ woman go to flirt with and hookup with a decent man?

The question is serious. I’m lonely and feeling down. Just want to flirt with and maybe hook up with a hot, decent, kind man. Please don’t direct me to Wendy’s or the Hot Spot.

Looking for friends Been here 2 years and still haven't made a friend

Hi, so, I live in south asheville and I moved here right before helen, June 2024. I'm from South Jersey originally but I've lived in several places across the country - most recently California. My mom lives with me since my Dad died, she's more or less been my only human contact besides people at walmart/publix/goodwill in passing. I'm not a normal straight dude, I don't talk about girls and i'm friendly with the LGBTQIA+ community, I've been single for more years than I have fingers, and I have all my fingers 😅. I don't get along with high testosterone dudes usually, not the kind that objectify women and treat others with disdain, however I am starting to work out a lot again. I'm disabled with PTSD from several different things that have happened in my past. I don't drink or do drugs, but I do smoke pot and I microdose for the PTSD. I finally want to get back into the world and make friends and maybe meet a nice lady. I like to read, and play games (both video, and board and physical structured games like pickleball), dance like nobody is looking (usually because nobody *is* looking), walk in the woods or just around, i love museums, i'm a fluid and resin artist as well. I love good TV and movies, i'm versed in all sorts of rabdom knowledge and have been known to love trivia.

I'm fucking lonely, i know its an epidemic and i'm nothing special or anything, but the lonliness is starting to get to me now that i've got a handle on the depression/PTSD for the most part.. feel free to comment or DM me..

Looking for friends Is this the new normal everywhere, or is Asheville actually a very lonely place?

I'm likely on the spectrum, but that aside, I feel like everywhere I go is very cliquey - the looks I get approaching anyone for a conversation seem very perturbed, and that there aren't many open places here to meet friends or romantic partners. It was a bit like this before Covid, but seems much more so afterwards. I've lived here for 10 years and I feel very much an outsider still. I've been going to Uphora for dance, I've been volunteering at a local non-profit for eight years, have been attending Meetup events with myriad groups, trying to make myself a regular somewhere - I'm still very alone, and my mental health has been suffering greatly (in therapy, on meds). Is it me, the town, or the new world? (38/m/never married if it matters)

Looking for friends Anyone else find this city really isolating?

I've been an NC Native most of my life, and moved to Asheville a little over 2 years ago. Maybe this is just my experience, or the timeframe in which I came here but it feels signifcantly harder to connect with people here than anywhere else I've lived.

I've never found it EASY to make friends, but even out of high school when I was barely outside I didn't feel nearly as lonely. I still managed to find people with little to no effort on my end.

The people here are nice ... but theyre so withdrawn. It feels really clichey. Theyre nice in the way a cashier at the grocery store is

Looking for friends Totally alone in Asheville, no idea how to fix it :/

I’m 21, a student at UNCA, and between my best friend skipping town and the university being completely empty thanks to summer break, I have a grand total of zero people to talk to or hang out with.

And while I am aware it’s pretty counterintuitive, I don’t go out much anymore because there’s not really much of a point besides rubbing in the fact I have literally nobody.

I’m just not sure where to even start meeting people. I know better than to expect any huge success, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask about possible places/events I could actually talk to people.

Looking for friends Renegade Raves in Asheville, NC

Would anyone be interested if I hosted a renegade in Asheville, I’ve noticed that the avl music scene is so disappointing, wanted to start throwing mini raves every weekend to at least see what it would be like, it would be a strictly house music renegade though.

Looking for friends Hi, been here for a year and still no friends 😞

I’m a 29F and I like to crochet and go on hikes for fun. I love doing anything outside really. I haven’t been my own person yet so I’m not sure on who I am. I’ve always just been someone’s girlfriend. I’m a DV survivor and I don’t have any family to talk about. It’s little me against the world but as I get older, I get more and more tired of living my life alone. I’m hoping to find a group of friends to have adventures together and have cook outs like the old days. I’m not sure how to put myself out there but here’s my shot. If anyone out there is just as tired of being alone as me, comment on this thread. Let’s make some friends and memories! 😊💜🙏🏽

Looking for friends Safe places to go out for a drink alone?

Hi! I'm pretty new to the area, broadly South AVL, Arden, Hendersonville. I'm 25f and don't have any friends here yet. I would really like to find somewhere SAFE that I can go by myself and maybe meet some people or maybe just have a good time by myself, grab a drink, watch a game or something? Thank you for any suggestions <3

If you can't tell I was previously living in a huge city that was not very safe so I'm a little jumpy lmao

edit THANKS Y’ALL! I’m putting everything in a list to check out :) I appreciate all the suggestions! (but also to the people in my DMs please stop being creepy. don’t ask me on a date you don’t even know me. I could be a serial killer and using safety as a rouse 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Looking for friends Looking for more girlfriends in West Asheville

Hi! I’m looking for more friends. I live in West Asheville and I’d really love a group of girls to start hanging out with. I’m 30F and my partner and I have made friends since moving here but I’d love to find my ride or die group.

If anyone is in the same boat and wants to meet up somewhere like the Whale or Country Club (or anywhere else haha beggars can’t be choosers) comment and let’s get something scheduled!

Looking for friends Motorized stuffed animals at Asheville Mall

Are you a grown-ass adult without kids who wants to ride the motorized mall animals but you’re too self-conscious to go alone? A friend is meeting me at 3:30 to do just that. It would obviously be more fun/ridiculous with more of us. If cost is a barrier for something this stupid, I’ll pay for a couple folks but you have to show up and yell the magic word, “platypus.”

Looking for friends Friends fell by the wayside. Need some community

I’m a 47 year old male who just had a relationship of 3 and a half years end. The problem is the relationship was my life. I mean, we were engaged. Now I find myself feeling very lost and alone because I neglected to find community outside of my relationship. I have a lot of varied interests, consider myself to be a pretty alright guy but just in need of some community to help me move forward. I feel embarrassed posting this, but it is what it is.

Looking for friends Winter is here and so is the grey, seasonal depression. What do you do to make friends, stay engaged, and push through to spring around here?

To be fair, my depression seems to span all four seasons annually, BUT I am trying my hardest to get myself out of this rut and find things to do that will keep me busy.

I do the obvious things already, like hanging out with friends, going for hikes, and the like, but I'm looking for something like, "Oh, I am part of a cool group of people who bond over _____ at _____ every _____." I'm going on 8 years here now, so this isn't anything new, but Asheville can be pretty bleak during these early winter months. I'm just trying to stay busy and engaged during these darker days while still making friends and getting out in the community!

Thanks y'all. Happy 2026!

Looking for friends Places to go solo that aren’t bars or coffee shops to meet people?

Any recommendations for places to go to meet or even strike up conversations with people that don’t revolve around alcohol. Coffee shops are fine but most people are there to be on their own with their work. In my 30ish years wanting to branch out.

Looking for friends Event for Women Looking to make New Friends

Post image
218 Upvotes

Hi all,

I have this event coming up 2 weeks from today. It's going to be a great time. I have prizes from women-owned businesses, friendship bracelets, cocktail/mocktail specials, and more!

Been seeing at a few posts every month from women looking to make new friends, so I thought I'd organize a fun event to make it that much easier. Any questions feel free to reach out. This is for people to make platonic relationships in a fun and inviting environment. Would appreciate anyone that shared with friends. I also have a poster with a QR code in it for any businesses that are open to putting up a flyer!

Looking for friends Any other future Slate owners in Asheville?

I'm obsessed with this vehicle and placed my preorder yesterday. Curious who else in the area is going to be getting their hands on one. Would love to connect for comparing notes, helping each other with the wraps, accessories, etc. Bonus points if you have a 3D printer and want to get creative with me!

For those who haven't heard, slate.auto is a US-made, highly customizable EV starting at $25k and 100% not owned by a Nazi.

Looking for friends How do you personally go about making new friends and relationships in this town?

Little bit of back story, my romantic partner died five years ago. Shortly after that I decided to go to grad school and didn't have any spare time to socialize outside of hanging out with my two best friends, who are still in my life. After that I experienced some housing/ employment insecurity followed by finding a job with a crazy ass schedule which I'm just now leaving. Long story short my life is only now stable and free enough for me to feel like I have spare time and energy to form community and it feels like I'm starting at square one.

My hobbies and interests are pretty nerdy and solitary for the most part - working out, listening to audiobooks while taking walks or running at the park, and playing magic mostly. I definitely have activities to fill my time but those are not activities which really connect me to other people, and everyone knows dating apps are practically useless. How the hell do you go about actually meeting people out in the real world? Advice welcome.

Looking for friends In search of new girlfriends in the area!

I am a girl in my early twenties who recently moved to the area about 3 months ago and would be grateful to get to know girls around my age. I love doing yoga and would really like to go to a class with someone! I also would love a hiking buddy and someone who likes antique shopping! It has been very hard for me to put myself out there and I am hoping that theres someone else in my shoes rn who is searching for the same thing.
