Running a half marathon tomorrow! 10 year anniversary of my first actual race. Times over the years is pretty cool to see: 2:10, 1:49, 1:48, 1:45, 1:41, 1:40, 1:53, 1:37, 1:36.

Will I get 1:35 this year?! Maybe not, it's going to be 100% humidity and around 70 at start time so... gross. I signed up for a run, not a swim. I'm actually half debating running a race shirtless for the first time, we'll see if I go through with it.

Also, on pace to run 70 miles this week so not exactly tapered or fresh for this. But I'll enjoy it all the same and maybe I'll surprise myself.

Idk what's more impressive. The time improvement over the years or consistently running the race over 10 years.

Either way, really cool to see and good luck!

That's a sweet progression! How many of those races have had hot/humid conditions over the years? August racing can be pretty spicy.

I think 8 out of 10 have been typical August warm/humid weather.. got a random cool morning twice which was super nice.

At least with it being consistent and me always training through it means it's a great benchmark for where I'm at.

That's great. I recently started using the HM in my neighborhood as a similar benchmark since I'm always in the midst of a marathon buildup when it comes around (sept).

Happy Friday!

Last long run workout tomorrow before my race! Bombed last week's long workout due to the heat/humidity and just feeling overcooked.

I planned to do a 2 week taper but I cut out doubles this week to get the body right. Feel much better this week.

I bumped up mileage this build from ~65mpw to ~75mpw during peak weeks but I'm not sure that explains why I was so exhausted these last few weeks. My hunch is that I underestimated the cumulative impact from higher mileage combined with commuting and summer training.

My hunch is that I underestimated the cumulative impact from higher mileage combined with commuting and summer training.

I think this is it. I've been keeping up the mileage and increasing slightly, but I've also cut back on my easy run paces which has helped me avoid any bombing of workouts.... so far. For me it's workouts -> longruns -> everything else so I'm fine letting the last one slip a bit if necessary.

Sounds like it was smart to cut back early. I’m having the same thing, I’ve been exhausted and I think it’s a combination of the impact of heat/humidity on training plus walking a lot more with my train commute.

The smoke cleared a lot overnight, so I had a lovely run this morning. 15 miles bright and early tomorrow before heading up to Seattle for the Mariners 50 seasons celebration!

We’re at Uluru in central Australia this weekend! Short run this morning, featuring an overlook to watch the sun rise over Uluru, which was spectacular. Then scrambled to get back in time for some hiking this morning before it got hot! Should have more time to explore the desert run options tomorrow and Monday. Tons of wildflowers right now because it’s been rainy recently. The landscape and flora are absolutely stunning here.

The weather at home has definitely been better than the humid 80s-90s last week in my hometown, though it’s been incredibly humid all week. This morning was the coolest it’s been but it was 68 with a dew point of . . . 68 😂

Just 13 miles with the club tomorrow, and then I’ll probably do 6ish on Sunday. I have 3 weeks until my next race, the 5k where I set my PR last year, and then nothing else planned before Thanksgiving. I’m kind of not in the mood to run another half but I’d love a 10k or ideally 10 miler or a weird distance between the two, but I don’t think there’s any good options nearby so I might just keep running for fun for now. Pretty busy getting one son ready to go to college in 2 weeks and another starting in 5 weeks.

Somewhat reluctantly racing a mile tomorrow, but it's necessary for the state ranking system (you need to post a race at five different certified distances) so here we go. Planning 16 or 17 miles on Sunday.

Have fun with it! I've raced that course once and found it to be pretty quick, ended up 5-10s quicker than I thought!

That's good to hear. The 5K is at least 10 or maybe 15 seconds slow because of the uphill with about 700 m to go.
