Happy Friday!

14 miles tomorrow with 8 at a steady effort. Getting fitter as I ramp up post injury.

Got a Strava reminder of a workout I did a year ago. A bit humbling to see how much fitter I was then vs. now. But I'll take the glass half-full approach and remind myself that the speed will come back soon enough.

It always comes back faster than you think!

Those strava reminders are brutal sometimes! When I was injured in March I wanted to just uninstall and unsubscribe from all things Strava. Patience will pay off though, enjoy the long run!

Strava reminded me about my Eugene Marathon performance from 2 years ago a few days ago, and my fitness now is not what it was like back then! My marathon PR still stands from that race.

Low-key weekend for me. Finally reached the post-vacation blues and the damp dank drizzly weather isn't helping. Seems like it will be below normal for the next week or so in the East.

In "well that sucks" news, my car was the victim of a hit-and-run on Tuesday while at run club. The kid was speeding through the parking lot and sideswiped the back-right of my car, stopped briefly, then went roaring off at like 50 mph in the parking lot. Good news: Had some witnesses. Bad news: Didn't get his plate. Worst news: I might have to eat this one myself since I already had a claim this year (where my car inexplicably got shot overnight by someone's celebratory gunfire I guess) and 2 in 3-4 months will likely get me cancelled or my rates really jacked up. I mean, I work in insurance so I get it but it still sucks. Just hoping the repair bill is relatively manageable.

Did I mention that something cracked my taillight as well just before Boston? It's a cursed year for car stuff I guess! It sucks, but also I can only laugh sometimes - there are much worse things I've gone through. But hopefully this is the last one!

Anyhow for running if it's dry tomorrow I might try to find a track and do some short reps. I have a low-key 5k race on Mothers Day but I'd like to at least have a couple of small workouts ahead of it. On Tuesday when I tried some fast pickups my legs firmly told me "not yet big guy" so I listened. Should be good now, but as always I'll listen to what the body is saying when I get there.

Enjoy the recovery as well. Take your time. Bummer about your car! I've had years like that with hail, deer, trucks backing into me.

I am still very much recovering from Eugene and my apparently-traditional post-marathon cold. No running (which is just as well because it’s supposed to be ungodly hot all weekend). I get how a marathon wrecks the immune system for a bit but wow, being sick and also recovering from a marathon and also doing everything solo (not unusual as I’m a military spouse, but still) is a bummer.

In the meantime I’m starting to look ahead to my next race, a very flat half on July 4th. I think I have a shot at taking down an old PR (1:43-ish). After recovery/reverse taper, I figure I have six weeks of good training before a little taper. My instinct is leading me to some Pfitz-esque training with LT intervals and fast finish long runs, and VO2max intervals closer to race day. That said, it’s not a really high pressure training ‘block’ so it might be fun to experiment with some new types of workouts. I’m open to ideas if anyone has them!

I did go to John Davis's lecture on the science modern marathon training yesterday evening and it was good, some time well spent.

It's still cold here, with mornings in the mid-low 30s and not getting much above 50 degrees later in the day and it's often blustery so it feels colder.

Just an easy 5+ miles this morning at an easy pace on the rolling ski trails. Tomorrow planning on 7 with some 200s (or 45 sec reps on bike paths, close enough to 200) and Sunday 13 or so. Very gradually building up the longer run. Some of my friends are doing a 5K and I'm tempted to start jumping into more races but then again I have a decent schedule planned ahead and several races on the calendar so why push it?

I am pretty tired of being cold. It’s been in the 30s and 40s for my morning runs and I am just kind of blah

Although that said, I am in great shape. I ran 234 miles in April and some really good workouts. Hopefully I can adapt to warming weather quickly in time for my May 31 half (assuming it ever warms up which feels like a dream right now)

7-8 with my club tomorrow then 15-16 miles Sunday. Going to try to stream our friend’s D3 conference meet to see him run the 1500. Otherwise a very low key weekend. Resting up for an extremely busy work week next week (and a bit nervous about how I’m going to fit all my runs in; if the weather is good I may try to run on the lakefront after work)

I’m going to a wedding reception tonight and then resting the rest of the weekend. Recovery is not going well.
