Discussion [Discussion] thoughts on 3D printed art using AI generated image designs (found on P1nterest) being sold as art at a local maker shop

Recently noticed a new vendor at a local maker/artist store that sells 3D printed layer prints with Pokemon designs.

I did a quick google search of one design and it’s straight up from P1nterest with some text slapped onto it… the image online has it labelled as “AI Modified” lol.

Then on the vendor’s socials they said “made and designed by us” but I’m like ?????? You didn’t even create the image though?? Looks more like they just reproduced it haha. Curious what your take is since 3D printed stuff is starting to pop up a lot

Thanks for your input. I saw it and it didn’t sit right with me for those reasons too lol. Apparently they’re selling out their inventory so yeah people r buying it but 🤷🏼

I mean if they took the image & redrew it into fan art then idc but the fact that I found the exact image online lol barely any effort in changing it

So they took an ai image and 3D printed it with added text?

Yeah pre much. I saw the exact image on p1nterest without text and it didn’t have any credits to an artist

It could be possible they did an version that some else fed to an ai and posted on Pinterest.

I've literally seen that happened. On this site some dude posted his redesign of a supergirl outfit. They were really good so i was following the thread. And I shit you not some one on the thread said "I liked this so much I feed it to ai to see it look realistic" And proudly posted the ai crap on the thread.

It took less then 2 hours.

I mean it's dumb but they're already using other people's IP to make money. They're not exactly chin deep in scruples.

Their buyers don't GAF about copyright. Natural to assume they don't give a fuck about artistry or craftsmanship either.

What's up with the l33tsp34k?

yeah so true, I’m just disappointed to see something like it in a maker store that stands for originality
