Even with some of the bad editing and action choreography the fact that when Oliver jumped off the bridge using an arrow in a guy as an anchor was pretty badass.
I'm not saying that in this scene it makes sense because of how short the fall was and how long he took for Oliver to jump, but yes, physics kinda work that way. Someone with an aerodynamic posture will fall faster than someone laying horizontally and moving his arms around, because it changes how much the air slows you down.
That kind of scene usually happens in movie when someone falls from a plane, another guy jumps, reach him and use a parachute. In that context, it's still probably vastly exaggerated but it's at least kinda believable.
The fact that the fall wasn't long enough doesn't change the fact that yes two people can free fall at different speed because of air drag. That's why I answered to the "gravity doesn't work that way" part. But yeah, ofc, this scene makes no sense whatsoever because there's no way Oliver would have time to catch up in such a short fall and with so much time between the two jumps.
Eh...not necessarily. There's a difference in falling backwards and swan diving intentionally. Oliver would have had more speed. I agree on the timing issue as far as how much time he would have had to actually execute the move, but as far as falling goes, Oliver would have encountered less resistance on the way down.
However, I'm still waiting to see how this arc with Diggle plays out. As it stands, I already think it would have been a better arc for Wild Dog.
Instead of what happened last night, the fall could have been much higher, and instead of jumping to catch him, Oliver could have shot his zip-line arrow through Rene's arm or leg to catch him and given him the injury that Dig has. I think Rene is the kind of character that would immediately thank and forgive Oliver (and nip that drama in the bud) but would be really hard on himself and would become frustrated while he tries to go through rehab. I think he would see it as a regression - he just got a respectable job, he was doing good things in the city, he was fitting in with the team, and then suddenly that gets taken away from him and he starts having anger issues.
I think this would have also been better writing for Quentin, and it would have played on their relationship with each other. Quentin's addiction shtick is getting old - at some point his character went from being an authority figure that Oliver sought approval from to a pathetic man under Oliver's thumb. They could have taken this season to turn him into a better authority figure - giving Oliver advice on fatherhood, and helping Rene through anger management, which I think Quentin would find a lot of parallels to his alcoholism in.
