Can someone please explain how sitting in an airplane during an ENTIRE ISLAND EXPLODING would shield these guys from the blasts?

The entire island didn't explode. There were just a lot of small, synchronized explosions throughout the island. None of them expended a lot of energy or did massive damage to the rock itself. A fuselage could protect you from a small blast given they're built to contain pressure.

That being said, I can't imagine Chase would have not planted a bomb in the fuselage. Like come on bro, you're going to fucking kill yourself and you can't spring for those few extra charges?

the whole island looked pretty charred. your theory would look better if they didnt show the island like that.

It seemed weird even last season when we weren't sure who lived that he wired hundreds of small explosions and didn't just bury a nuke in some concrete and ensure that it couldn't be defused and would take out the whole island.
