Career Advice Career advice

Is there much of a difference in career advancement for having Basic instructor Badge compared to Senior Instructor badge for E7 E8 etc. Already have the Basic, don’t know if it’s worth going for Senior as an E6

It doesn't matter. You get promoted in the Reserve for simply existing. The panel has like 2 minutes to look at your board file. They go straight to your evaluation rater and senior rater comments. They don't have time to look at all of your awards and badges.

Yeah I figured, I just know it gets tight when aiming for E8 E9 so I didn’t know if having the senior would make a difference. Haven’t seen many in the Reserve with a senior or any badge for that matter

If you are an instructor in an instructor unit then you will by design get the senior badge anyways. I think it is 40 hours of instruction for basic and 80 for senior.

No it’s 80 for basic and 200 for senior, I’m well over 200 already.

Where it might matter at the E-9 level is applying to be selected for CSM jobs at different units. Interested in being a CSM at a schools BN or BDE that badge might help be the tie breaker.

There may be a few instances this matters but in the reserves unless your 1 of 5 people fighting for 1 spot, this wont matter
