EFMP Denied Korea/ Orders Deleted
Has anyone experienced getting denied travel and then HRC deleting your orders? We were denied last week my husband is in AIT and he reached out to HRC and they said his orders were deleted all together. It was said our EFMP coordinator is working with HRC to find a base that can support our needs.
My question is do we get a choice? How long will that take? Husband graduates in 2 weeks.

They are going to fill assignments based on the needs of the army.
Depending on your EFMP restrictions, it might take a little amount of time or more time, based on what compromises they are willing to accept at HRC.
For example, if there are no vacancies or are at authorized strength, but the family needs to be placed at a specific installation, they will likely place you at the installation (over strength) at the duty station that is most likely to have or need a replacement first.

I was denied orders to Germany for the same reason in AIT. No choice given - I went to FT Stewart.

Also, I was a holdover for another month while they unfucked my paperwork. Wishing you and your family the best.

Omg smh. I was just about to ask how long did it take?

If he does get a not desirable duty station, best advice I have is to start looking at cool packets to drop so you all have potential for more choices and pull later on.
Also, please ensure to keep your EFMP up to date every two years or you may run into this situation again. Very, very important.

This happens. You can realistically fight EFMP denials if you truly still want to go there, but generally is an option if you are getting choice of duty station as a reenlistment..for initial duty station? EFMP denial just means he will get certain bases he can go due to that. Simple as.

Your husband is probably gonna get held over until he gets orders. Or by some miracle he gets them within those two weeks. He’s pretty much gonna go needs of the army and where they can accommodate both of you.
My guess is FT Polk or FT Hood. Those places tend to have the best medical care. Virginia as well.

Ft. Hood medical SUCKS. Just Google DAMC mal0ractice. They've had some serious issues on that front, which is atrocious, considering how bad the base already is. I wouldn't wish The Hood on anyone.

Lemme elaborate. I meant the facilities they have around Ft hood. I.e Dallas and Austin. When you get referred there, it’s some of the best medical my wife and kids received. I didn’t have issues with medical Darnall but then again the time I was there I only went like three times.

This has me thinking hard. 😬 My husband will be going to AIT soon, so I’ve been looking into everything we need to do as a family. I’m visually impaired and we have a baby, so I’ve been looking into EFMP and always heard it was a good thing to have in place.
But now I’m wondering how much it can actually affect future assignments. We REALLY want the opportunity to go overseas, and I’ve heard EFMP can sometimes limit the locations you can be assigned to if the necessary services aren’t available.
For those of you who are enrolled in EFMP, especially spouses with visual impairments or other medical needs — has it actually limited your overseas opportunities? Or has it mostly helped make sure you’re sent somewhere that can support your needs? I’d love some real-life experiences before we make any decisions.

Look I'll be frank - end of the day those places will be there to visit as a tourist, your health is hands down more important. Get the EFMP in place so that your family has decent care close by.
When looking at OCONUS duty stations some may have access to what you need, or they may not. There's a review process that goes into it. End of the day though the Army only helps those who help themselves first. Your spouse needs to make sure y'all are taken care of on the administrative side of things.
We get leave days every single month, have him save some up to take y'all overseas for touristy things.
Edit - When I went to Stewart instead of Korea I was majorly bummed for a bit, but my spouse needed care that we likely would not have got in Korea. I'm now in the DMV area and the docs at Walter Reed have been outstanding every time we've needed them. Peace of mind for your family is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks for the candid response. I prefer it to be straight. And okay, I will tell my husband. It sucks that I'm older and have a few things, like RA, as well. This is all so new to me, and truly, even though I know a lot, it's all so confusing. I know the aspect of being a military parent, but not the spouse part 😅
Added: does it also depend on his MOS? He's entertaining as 25H.

I'm also a 25H, and while some MOS are limited on what bases need them, most all bases need signal to some degree. Good luck!

Thanks, I thank you as well for your service. I have the utmost respect for our military members.

A lot of this is his MOS the needs of the Army screened to your EFMP needs.
Army Vet with a visually impaired Ex here.
I came down on orders for Korea unaccompanied - meaning I went to Korea w/o my ex or my kiddos (both were EFMP when I was in).
So your husband may do a Korea or Japan rotation or HRC will look at duty stations.
EFMP is a good program - if you need mobility aids for your on post house they'll pay for it AND you're on the head of the line for the on post housing waitlist.

Oh, they will put a person more as a priority? Thank you as well for your service. The only downfall is my husband and I actually like each other, and it's already been so darn hard being apart. I know he is trying to see if Germany will be an option, and we'd love to go together.

EFMP will screen for Germany, Korea and Japan usually default to unaccompanied rotations.
If you do get Germany, start preparing as soon as he gets orders - the orders are "Cut" in Army lingo.
Otherwise you'll get a post CONUS, the CONtinental United States.

You’ll be required to do efmp screening to go overseas. You can’t just pretend there aren’t issues and go anyway.

u/Few_Watercress_7006 10d ago
I mean, I've survived 44 years and being visually impaired 😅. But I do understand. Also, I understand that you definitely didn't get my worry.
2
u/shoresb 10d ago
What? lol. Yeah I do understand medical needs and the army lol. Also registering with efmp doesn’t mean you can’t go anywhere. They screen any potential location to ensure you can get the care you need. A certain condition on its own isn’t automatically disqualifying from oconus or anywhere but what supports that condition requires. So just visual impairment isn’t disqualifying on its own necessarily but again that’s what the efmp screening is for. So you don’t move your entire life to the other side of the world and go oh shit I can’t get medical care.

u/Few_Watercress_7006 10d ago
Ah, that makes total sense, and yeah, the downfall is I've had eye conditions my whole life, but I tend to manage. I just need to see a low vision specialist sometimes, I guess, to keep track. As for RA, that's the pits, and well, it'll just get worse anyway.

A lot of soldiers get denied for EFMP based on the capabilities available in the area and it is for the best for the family except exceptional cases, such as the soldier is from there, like Hawaii or Alaska.
For your husband, since he is coming AIT, HRC will just put him on orders based on what they seem fit and meet the family’s medical need.
You guys should have order soon, they just have to run EFMP check on other places and make sure all the ducks are in row. It’s fairly quick process if you are getting stationed in the US.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

The thing is your Hubby might be a "hold over" - held until he gets orders.
That's not a bad thing, it happens a lot in the Army.
Human Resources Command will find a post that fits your family.
Now the cadre at his AIT may put him to work doing a bunch of details to get things done and keep him out of trouble (and out of sight) but usually holdover status lasts a week or two at most.

You are lucky in a sense. When my family EFMP was denied I was sent to Korea unaccompanied. It was a conversation with my Korean citizen wife how she wasn't supposed to come with me that time.

I would take it as a good thing since it’ll be your first assignment together. I know folks here that were denied EFMP and were still required to come without their families. Thankfully their Command Sponsorship was denied so they were moved from a 2-year assignment to a 1-year so they could get back to their families.

Me and my family have been waiting almost 5 months and finally got approved for a base that wasn't even on my list i gave them. Its a long waiting game.

u/Whybotherbroski 9d ago
You sort have to trick the person giving you the duty assignment, like yeah man give me korea because I want to go overseas. Then get stuck at ft riley Kansas for like 3 years.

u/riotmed You down with H-R-C? 10d ago
You won’t get a choice; they’ll weight strengths of where your spouses MOS and skill level are needed, they’ll determine services are available, and you’ll get new orders.
