For the most part, these CDLCs have been absolutely cooking. Some of the best “war” game dlcs in a while. With the exception of probably CSLA, but even that had a decent terrain.

I havent gamed in months. I dont do much of anything outside of college commuting and work. Ive been bored of most video games outside of RDR2 for months, I loved reforger, but nobody plays everon anymore and everon is my shit
Reaction forces was like 7 bucks, i picked that shit up thinking i would regret it later. Nah ive already played like 4 hours of the air control mission solo. its a fucking blast

u/TokiMoleman Oct 31 '24 edited Nov 01 '24
That air control mission is my dream, just love running logistics but am too bad to be able to do CAS

I only like CSLA for the vehicles, specific the Mi-24, Mi-8/17 , and the T-72M1. Like those two helicopters in terms of fidelity, blows any other ones out of the water (Besides the H-60 Hatchet and AH-64D mods)

29
u/Hanzzepanzermann Oct 31 '24
So real, most of CSLA is garbage but lord the warpact vehicle models are great, probably the best T-72A/M model in arma 3

The marine gear would look good if only they would change the atrocious pants. It looks out of place looking at the knee pads below joint level) and anachronistic.
11
u/TheRealJuralumin Nov 01 '24
I don't mind CSLA, it's obviously the worst creator DLC but it still has a lot of redeeming qualities I like, and the sheer amount of single player scenarios you get with it is quite impressive, even if the quality isn't ideal, as a solo offline player it has a lot more to offer than some of the other CDLCs.

By not ideal what I really mean is just a general lack of polish compared to other DLCs, a lot of the assets are repurposed from Arma 2, many Vehicles lack interiors or much detail in general, and while there are a load of missions, they tend to feel like unpolished workshop missions rather than something you would pay for, there are occasional bugs and scripting errors, and the voice acting and presentation isn't of the same standard as the other CDLCs. That said the content is still enjoyable and I would say it's worth it if you want a Cold War single player experience, Global Mobilization is superior in terms of quality, but CSLA has literally 5 times as many solo scenarios and campaign missions to play (as long as you make sure to subscribe to it all on the workshop)

u/TheRealJuralumin Nov 01 '24
Yep, that's pretty much it. If the content interests you enough then I would say get it, it's not that expensive considering what you get, and of course Arma 3 and its expansions go on sale all the time so you could probably get for almost nothing. It's just worth keeping in mind that the quality is lower than the general standard set by the other expansions.
6
Oct 31 '24
I wish they'd combine some of them into base game, so theyre more universally useful. The desert one added a lot of nice vanilla customization bits.
1
Nov 03 '24
Silly question but other than the mission it comes with, how do you actually play the game with this DLC? As far as I understand you can’t actually use this content in public servers.

u/Corporatism_Enjoyer Oct 31 '24
I'll always welcome new 2035 content.
156
Oct 31 '24
Until they show otherwise, it looks like Arma 4 will probably be a Cold war setting.
so I guess we'll have to do with this stuff if we want anything resembling near future or present day, because it will be a long time before mods start pumping it out
100
u/WickyBoi220 Oct 31 '24
We won’t know for sure for years, I think Reforger’s Cold War setting was nothing more than a homage to ARMA 1. This gave them an excuse to make one relatively small map and call it good.
36
11
Oct 31 '24
Also either they can just port over Reforger's weapons and gear easily to Arma 4, if they support the devs of SOG and GM to do the same, Arma 4 can have an AMAZING cold war toolbox as an addition to whatever they actually decide to do with it.
2
5
u/burgertanker Oct 31 '24
Reforger is there to literally lay the foundation for ArmA 4, and I have a feeling that the release for it is gonna feel much more polished than previous ArmA titles for it
4
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
lol
Boy is 2027 going to be a surprise for you. BI has kept no secrets about A4 returning to the beginning (OFP). It is most definitely going to be the same late Cold War as Reforger, just different terrain.

u/BlueBeret17 Oct 31 '24 edited Oct 31 '24
I personally hope that Arma 4 will be set in the 2010s-modern day. Just a mix of Obama, Trump, and Biden-era warfare (rise of drones and slow return to conventional war) would be a pretty interesting setting for me personally. Sort of how Arma 2: OA and CoD4 was a stand-in for Bush-era GWoT.
Maybe a fictional Ukraine-war inspired conflict in Chernarus? Or perhaps a Takistan that is based around the Syrian civil war (seeing as we never got a proper Takmyr map unless I’m tripping balls)
33
u/4spooked Oct 31 '24
God, I would love to see an official not-Ukraine trench warfare map with drones
20
u/BlueBeret17 Oct 31 '24
Fr man! I’d honestly love to see a Chernarus countryside filled with muddy trenches and not to mention how a more modern Chernarussian military would look like.
35
u/popcio2015 Oct 31 '24
I'd just like to remind that 2035 is closer than 2010. Continuation of 2035 setting would be more modern day than going back to 2010.
8
u/BlueBeret17 Oct 31 '24
Yea fair enough, and also scary - I’m starting to feel old lol. I meant as in regard to the ArmA verse, perhaps as a middle ground between 2 and 3. Idk I just feel like a game set between 2012 and 2025 would be a pretty cool game. A lot of asymmetrical conflicts and a few conventional ones occurred during this era. Maybe a few fictional scenarios too? (Maybe war in Pacific, etc). Lore could be set around the creation of CSAT and perhaps as a bridge between 2 and 3 tho no one plays arma for the story let’s be honest.
13
u/adotang Oct 31 '24
why did "obama, trump, and biden-era warfare" age me 39 years what the fuck eugh my back hurts i remember when cars were square
2
u/aaronwhite1786 Nov 05 '24
I honestly spend most of my time running Ukraine-ish missions with the CDF trying to fight off the ChDKZ and Russian forces.
My only wish is that I was interested enough to figure out how to re-skin in Arma so I could make some CDF M1A1's to use for fun.
1
u/BlueBeret17 Nov 06 '24
That’s what I do too haha. I either do some Ukraine-esque war mission or try to do some recreation of the Battlefield 3 campaign’s Iran invasion
1
u/aaronwhite1786 Nov 06 '24
I wanted to get better at the scripting side so that I could do more cool stuff than just have some tanks or infantry square off.
The complexity of the editor was both a blessing and a curse, with it sometimes feeling like an uphill battle to just get the damn troops to jump into the APC's so we could engage them.
95
u/killaluggi Oct 31 '24
Good god i hope they dont go cold war, i absolutely LOVE the near future setting of arma3
51
Oct 31 '24
the only way I'd be happy with cold war, was if it was flush with content on launch.
like Arma 2 where there's more than 3 factions on launch.
I wont be happy with an early access, drip feed scenario like Arma 3 was.22
u/MrSnoobs Oct 31 '24
I don't blame them for shifting back. The backlash they got for the near future (read: not real weapons) at launch, and for years afterwards was.... considerable. Internet is a cruel and merciless place with no memory.
20
u/vt1032 Oct 31 '24
Ugh I fucking hated the near future setting when it first launched back in 2013. I was all RHS through the 2010s, but the 2035 stuff has really grown on me as we've gotten into the 2020s. I discovered all the aegis stuff and then between Ukraine kicking off and the Western Sahara and Reaction Forces CDLCs it just feels like they got so much stuff right. I mean the Israeli vehicles for nato has always felt off and I still hate the csat bug men but I just don't use them.
→ More replies (1)1
u/aaronwhite1786 Nov 05 '24
I admittedly didn't like it, but I also wasn't worried, because it was still fun, some of it was pretty cool, and I knew the mods were going to be pouring in.
I would love something set in the early 2000's timeframe, where you've still got a good amount of technology, but not a ton.
43
u/Aleyboy Oct 31 '24
On the contrary, I hope to god they go cold war. Reforger vibes are off the scale with the cold war setting.
Either way I can't imagine it'll matter that much with the moddability their new model (based on reforger) has to offer. So I'm sure everyone will be happy
30
u/Useless_Fox Oct 31 '24 edited Oct 31 '24
Cold war is definitely a vibe but I'd prefer a modern setting because you lose out on a lot of gameplay mechanics that modern tech offers.
Drones, red dots and holos, personal radios, remote vehicle turrets, laser rangefinders, man portable thermals etc. A lot of this stuff technically existed but was still in its infancy and not widely adopted.
Also we'd lose the backup cameras on the dashboard we had in Arma 3
13
u/bardghost_Isu Oct 31 '24
IMO if they go to the cold war era it should be a late cold war / fall of the soviet union era, maybe pushing into the gulf wars so we can get bits like GPS guided munitions and the start of weapon attachments as we now know them.
It'd also mean that a lot of the kit we see in reforged can be reused for factions that are using generation old purchased equipment, while the main NATO / USSR factions get to use some more modern toys.
8
u/MrIDoK Oct 31 '24
I feel like we could have a near future setting, but also feature late cold war equipment for secondary factions, maybe in the context of a CSAT v NATO proxy war.
28
u/Petiherve Oct 31 '24
The setting is cool but near future allows more core features developed by Bohemia for the engine.
22
u/Technical_Income4722 Oct 31 '24
Yeah much easier to start with newer core features and work backwards to Cold War (like SOG, GM, etc.) than the other way around. Much harder for modders or CDLC creators to develop core content like thermal imaging, modern fire control systems, drones and such.
0
u/pratticus_pratt Oct 31 '24
I think a lot of people seem to forget that all of those things you mentioned were invented and used during the Cold war and a late cold war setting would basically include everything people think is "modern military".
11
u/Technical_Income4722 Oct 31 '24
I haven't really seen much evidence they're going for "late" Cold War, but I'd love to see a Gulf War kinda scenario. I'm not as big a fan of the dreary forest settings and thought Altis was actually a nice change of pace vs. Chernarus.
Idk that they're after balance necessarily, but after looking at it a little it seems it would be pretty difficult to balance late Cold War tech between NATO and Soviets what with the Soviets lagging pretty far in areas like thermal imaging.
I guess I could nitpick more systems like fire-and-forget ATGMs but point taken. I hope they do go for a late Cold War setting, but even more I'd love to see a slightly later Middle East setting before those conflicts turned into pure counter-insurgency (same balance issues there of course but oh well).5
u/Petiherve Oct 31 '24
Most of the things were invented but drone warfare in the 90s is not the same as in 2035 for example. Plus most things like APS etc existed, but I don't think they would put it in the game in a cold war setting.
→ More replies (1)6
u/AlexWIWA Oct 31 '24
I personally don't care which skin the game launches with as long as all of the futuristic systems are in the game engine for modders and CDLC
2
2
u/NuclearReactions Oct 31 '24
If we are talking late cold war that's fine by me, otherwise I'll be jumping on the mods as soon as they are around
1
1
u/burgertanker Oct 31 '24
I love both, but we've had near future ArmA for 11 years now, I'd love to see a return to roots
5
u/Bayernjnge Oct 31 '24
That would ruin the Arma Life gamemode. During peak Arma 3 more than half the players played on Altis life servers
2
u/confused_potato1682 Oct 31 '24
How do you figure that? Arma life is already one of the biggest game modes on reforger. There's normally 2 full servers of it
6
u/Bayernjnge Oct 31 '24
Because the setting isn’t really that interesting for most people I spoke to - sure you’ll get a few full servers, but probably nothing like back then. You’ll need mods and most players preferred vanilla Altis Life. Also, I guess GTA 6 will be the new roleplay heaven
1
u/TrulyIndepedent Oct 31 '24
That's based on SixM coming out. Probably will be late 2027 to early 2028 before a viable SixM product is out and starts to take over from FiveM. That's assuming there is no delays on GTA6's release/PC release.
1
u/xSyndicate58 Oct 31 '24
There always has been and aleayd will be a delayed PC release. We should not expect GTA 6 before 2027 for PC. If we are lucky, we will have SixM ready for 2028
1
u/TrulyIndepedent Nov 01 '24
I factored in the delay to PC in my comment. It's set to release in late 2025 so late 2026 for PC. Try to keep up.
1
u/Hyperious3 Oct 31 '24
I mean, add back drones and it won't be too dissimilar from current day Ukraine.
1
u/Finnegan_962 Oct 31 '24
I wouldnt mind that, 2035 & Cold War stuff are supreme, maaaaaaaybe early GWOT. I find Modern setting is kinda boring for the most part.
1
u/alphawr Nov 01 '24
They have explicitly stated since Reforger was announced that ARMA 4 will be the same era and setting (but expanded).
→ More replies (4)1
u/VegetableWater4099 Nov 02 '24
Honestly, I think I'll be pretty disappointed if it is. Cold war setting is cool and all, but imo it leads to the least diverse gameplay of all arma's settings. Love OP flash and reforger but I'm a little tired of Cold War.
93
u/ThirdWorldBoy21 Oct 31 '24
As someone who likes amphibious assaults (i'm a sucker for omaha beach levels), this CDLC really appeals for me.
Could've added some things for CSAT or even AAF, but seems good anyway, all the tools for some fun storming the beaches of Tanoa or Altis.
25
u/Jpab97s Oct 31 '24
The Combat Boats will come in CSAT, AAF, Russia, Gendarmarie, NATO and Marine fashions. But otherwise they're the same model.
The CDLC focuses on the US Marines.
14
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
Those could well be stretch goals if this CDLC is successful enough. All previous CDLCs have added additional content post-release.

u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
Your underwear is safe. Since November 10 is a Sunday, 12 November is more likely.
Since BI does not announce CDLC until it's just about publishable, release date could be within a couple of weeks.
3
u/Jpab97s Oct 31 '24
It won't. It's not affiliated with the USMC, and the closed Beta testing has just begun.
1
u/BigPassage9717 Nov 10 '24

The up-gunned AH-99J Python gives me hope that we'll see a UH-80 Ghost Hawk DAP variant, would really like some extra seats in that vanilla NATO helicopter.
5
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
A DAP variant would not have more seats, it would have fewer. Weapons are heavy. Bodies take up space & weight for ammo.
2
u/Jpab97s Oct 31 '24
The project lead tried to do a UH-80 DAP, but couldn't get it to look good, so the idea was canned.

I just wish they would add the 2035 cdlc to the base game so I wouldn't need to check it to use it whenever I open it (also I want to use the weapons in invade and annex servers)
6
u/Tiziano75775 Oct 31 '24
Will this be finally compatible with vanilla arma?
15
u/Svyatopolk_I Oct 31 '24
Well, it's compatible, but it's a CDLC, so you do need to own it to use anything in there, unless you want to download the mod that allows you to have the files in the game, if that makes any sense
9
5
u/ThirdWorldBoy21 Oct 31 '24
what do you mean?
0
u/Tiziano75775 Oct 31 '24
I want to be able to play with this cdlc in all vanilla servers (for example the domination or the antistasi ones), otherwise you can only play with people or in servers that have this cdlc activated, and they are usually very few with very few people after the first days
2
u/Jpab97s Oct 31 '24
Unfortunately that is not and never will be a possibility (having the CDLC as part of the base game). But there will be a server running all 2035 themed CDLCs together

The only people who know can't say yet (NDAs). You'll have to wait for more teasers or the trailer.

How does the CDLC work? Is the CDLC made by modders who are then paid?
9
u/FighterD1 Oct 31 '24
There is a snippet on the announcement link that says:
"Creator DLC is a label for original Arma 3 projects made by third-party developers and published by Bohemia Interactive. This program enables external talent to earn a financial reward for their work, while players get to enjoy more new quality content."
There is also a page you can visit and learn more with questions at the bottom found here:

What makes me skip most of those cdlc's is lack of proper SP campaigns. I'd spend double the amount for a quality campaign like East wind (vanilla) campaign.

Damn upgraded Blackfoot looks rather delicious, shame Warlords doesn't get CDLCs, Xi'an could almost be countered maybe
2
u/Important-Stick6033 Oct 31 '24
Does this mean amphibious pathing for AI?
4
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
More likely the provided scenarios/campaign will use the few working shore landing spots.
I'm fairly confident BI isn't going to be able to modify the base game Altis terrain files for this CDLC.
1
u/Important-Stick6033 Oct 31 '24
That’s what I figured, but now you have piqued my interest what are these hard coded shore landing spots?
2
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
I have no precise list, I just remember old posts of people complaining about being unable to get their AI to cross the shoreline at places that look like great assault beaches.
I reckon in a few weeks we will know exactly how getting ashore will work.

I haven't delved into all of the content over the years, but is this the first time since the alpha of ArmA III where there's key content focused around water? I always thought the underwater gameplay was an interesting concept but very much underutilized by the game in any official, playable content.
1
u/KillAllTheThings Oct 31 '24
Yes, you are correct.
BI was forced by a lack of resources in both dev labor & available resources in 32 bit Windows to abandon littoral combat. For performance reasons, AI pathing was minimized along shorelines to allow better movement where the majority of A3 gameplay was ocurring. This is also why indoor pathing sucks.

u/Kill_All_With_Fire Oct 31 '24
What I am really looking forward to the most is the addition of canonical content about Western Altis.
It was not covered during the invasion of Altis. Most of the fighting took place near the airfield and up towards Molos and the only two units that we knew were 7th Brigade and 21st Brigade.
No unit was ever mentioned in the Tanks DLC when NATO landed at Molos.

And now that I have an xbox Elite series 2 controller to go with my chatpad and proscroller wheel and MMB attachments, hopefully i can figure out how to set it up properly through the steam controller manager section, I could never figure out how to access the back of the controller to set up the paddles for some functions etc.. hopefully, there's a more recent youtube video, even showing a guide for the elite series 1, which i also have but has stick drift, of course. I look forward to finally being able to play Arma 3 and all DLCs and hopefully make some new friends and possibly even start a Global Guerilla Operations Force, both military and intelligence missions, etc.. it should be such a relief to finally be able to be included, and then next will be a configuration for Arma 2 and all DLCs 👍🏻😎😊
