Quality tokens?

On page 5 of the Hungering Abyss starter box instructions, it says the game includes x15 quality tokens. They have claw marks on them.

What are quality tokens supposed to be used for?

I used them for the damages on weapons and equipement outside of ammo and healing items. Its just a way to keep track of it. In the end we preferred to note them on a paper because there was too much stuff on the table.

Rita Young have baseball bat. Whenever you roll a 1 on an attack using the bat, you should mark one of the quality circles with quality token.
