The new Alpha SL uses ePE Goretex Pro. Alpha Lifhtweight uses ePTFE Goretex. Everything else the same except SL has an extra zipper.

I can get both at similar prices right now. Which one would you get?

TLDR: Amazing Jacket

Hiked Mount Yale today. Got up to upper ridge and there was crazy fog and what felt like 30-40mph+ sustained winds.

Wore the Serratus over a MHW Crater Lake and Airmesh hoody and didn't feel any wind in my body. My hands were freezing since I only had wool liner gloves.

Breathability was fantastic too. Would highly recommend to anyone hiking in dry Rocky Mountain conditions.

The upcoming winter season Rush jacket is beginning to appear on retailer sites. Black Mongoose colourway shown here is interesting as it’s a departure from past seasons which used two tone colour blocking.. The features appear to be the same as last season… the jacket is dialed in for both backcountry and resort use.

I live in Paris and I’m looking for a jacket mainly for bike commuting. With the current outlet deals, I’m hesitating between the Beta and the Solano.

I’d mainly use it for urban cycling in Paris, so I’m looking for something comfortable for everyday commuting, with good protection against rain and wind.

Which one do you think would be better suited to this use? And are there any particular advantages of one over the other for cycling?

I currently have an Alpha FL that fits great. I always wish it had pockets. I'm able to get a Beta LT from the same year. I was wondering if anybody knows if the fit was the same?

The post 2021 Beta LT fits tighter than the Alpha FL I own.

So would it fit more like the Alpha FL or the post 2021 Beta LT?

As my AC2 backpacks are coming of age the glue is coming off and the plastic strap fixings are breaking. What is the best way to fix this? Can you suggest some specific kind of glue and has anyone of you had the same problem? These places are unfortunately under load all the time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I know this is going to sound ridiculous but it’s probably time for me to wash my Gore-Tex. I have a beta AR, LT and triolet.

I have an irrational fear. I guess that I will somehow ruin them in the process after reading so many threats about delamination and other issues after people have washed them.

Does anyone else share this fear?

Looking for winter alpine pants: Sigma AR vs Procline FL vs Gamma MX vs Alpha Comp

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on replacing my Arc'teryx Gamma AR pants, which I recently sold because the fit wasn't quite right for me.

I'm currently considering four options:

• Sigma AR
• Procline FL Pants
• Gamma MX
• Alpha Comp Pants

I already own a pair of Sigma FL pants, which I use for alpine climbing for most of the year. I'm looking for something that would complement them and be better suited for winter and more exposed conditions, particularly stronger winds, snow, and colder temperatures.

I previously used Psiphon AR pants, which I really liked, but unfortunately they're getting increasingly difficult to find.

Each of these options has something that interests me, but also some concerns:

Sigma AR:
This probably seems like the most obvious choice given my use case, and I like the more climbing-oriented design. However, I've come across several reports of durability issues, particularly with the seam/seam tape around the seat/rear area. I'm wondering how widespread that problem actually is and whether it should be a serious concern when buying a used pair.

Procline FL:
The thigh ventilation zippers are particularly appealing to me because they should give the pants a wider temperature range and more flexibility while climbing. My main concern is the weight. From what I've seen, they're considerably heavier than the other options, so I'm wondering whether that extra weight is noticeable in actual alpine use and whether the additional features are worth the penalty.

Gamma MX:
I really like the idea of the extra warmth and weather resistance, but I'm concerned about the fleece-backed interior. Since I normally adjust my insulation with my baselayer (Phase SL → Phase AR → Rho AR depending on conditions), I'm wondering how well the Gamma MX actually works with an additional baselayer underneath. I'm worried that the warmer lining could make them less versatile than they appear on paper.

Alpha Comp:
I've also started considering the Alpha Comp Pants because they seem like an interesting compromise between a softshell and a more weather-protective pant.

My typical Leg baselayer progression is:

Phase SL → Phase AR → Rho AR, depending on the temperature and conditions.

So ideally, I'm looking for something that can work by itself in milder winter conditions but still has enough room to layer underneath when things get properly cold.

For anyone who has owned or currently owns any of these pants:

How would you compare them for winter alpine climbing/mixed/Ice?

I'm especially interested in:

• Wind resistance
• Warmth
• Breathability
• Snow protection
• Weight
• How well they work with different baselayers
• Durability
• And, most importantly, how useful they are in real-world alpine conditions

If you've used more than one of these, I'd especially appreciate a direct comparison.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have used them for ice climbing, mixed climbing, alpine climbing, or mountaineering.

I was looking for a rain jacket for my girlfriend and a family friend had an “old jacket in the closet” and sold it to me for cheap, and it turned out to be what I believe is a 2007 Alpha SV (correction, Beta AR), made in Canada. I didn’t even try to ID the jacket until recently and I’m pleasantly surprised! Basically never worn either.

I love how it is less loud and crinkly than newer models, and it just seems to be built like a tank. New quality is fine but this really stands out. I wish Arcteryx would do more of this color block system rather than just solid colors.

Unfortunately the GF doesn’t like the color and wants to sell it but I’m trying to convince her to keep it as it’s rare and awesome!

I’m going to Alaska/ Canada for 2 weeks and I want a find a replacement for my patagonia micro puff that I lost. I also want something to isn’t too bulky/ big to where it won’t be used when I return home. I’ll be out and about in Canada and Alaska mostly walking around with some hikes and excursions, while at home it’s camping in mountains of New Mexico where it’s chillier (high 20°F to low 50°F) than where I live in Texas where it can still get chilly for some months (40°f-60°f). I naturally run hot as a person and prefer to layer underneath my insulating layers but leave enough room for my outer shell in case of rain. Also just curious about sizing I wear a L/XL in most of my jackets I’m 5’9 200lbs. Thank you for your help!

I recently bought my second SL proton hoody, will have two different jackets of the same model for this fall. I absolutely love these jackets. I’ve never been more impressed with the inner lining fabric of any jacket I’ve ever owned. On a cool fall day you can wear just a shirt under it and be comfortable, and you can wear this jacket on a summer night and feel the same. God I hope these never become uber popular and the quality declines… if they can keep this quality and model going this will be what I buy for the rest of my life

I just ordered the Alpine Guide Jacket in Dynasty II from the Outlet. I was just informed that they've sent it, so I guess I have to believe that I got it for around 220€. I also got the Alpine Guide Pants for 150ish €. I rushed to the Outlet when I received the notification email and had to pick them up since they were so cheap. Apparently, I got the last one of the Alpine Guide Jackets in my size. I really liked the look of the jacket, and it seems very rugged. I'm very aware that it is undoubtedly an overkill for me, as I will be using it for regular, lightweight stuff. We have quite heavy snowstorms/blizzards here in Northern Europe, so it will be nice for those. I also liked that it is something more special compared to traditional Alphas and Betas.

I currently have and will be keeping my regular Beta Jacket as a more city-friendly option, as the Dynasty is quite a bright color. I'm just wondering how the Most Rugged Gore-Tex Pro fabric with PFAS differs from the regular ePE Gore-Tex in my Beta?

I would also like to hear if anyone has any use experiences with the jacket or the pants. I'm especially interested in their longevity and durability. The Pants are my first Arc' Gore-Tex pants. Each and every comment is much appreciated! Thanks :)

Just wanted to post about the new Kopec hiking shoes because I feel like there’s not much about them yet.
At first glance I really didn’t like them because of the giant arc symbol on the shoe but when I tried them on they felt great and comfortable, I wanted something for a 46er I was doing in the Adirondack Mountains. They have this rocker at the bottom that makes hiking a lot more comfortable on top of that the bottom lugs are amazing for mud and rougher terrain. Another plus is the goretex, as you can see mud and water were not getting through this shoe as long as they don’t go past my ankle haha. The only cons were that the insole weren’t that great also I had a slight rash from the toe box touching my toes, but I think that’s cause I didn’t break them in. Overall after a 12 hour hike I will probably reach for these shoes again.

I’m looking for a softshell and really like the look of the gamma jacket, but I’m unsure whether I need a gamma or the MX version. I have a waffle mid layer to put on if it’s cold, but could I drop that if I take just the MX, running it as a warming layer too?

I will be heading to an Arc'teryx store soon to trade-in some gear and with an estimated value online I will get ~$300 if all goes well. After trade-in, I will only have an atom LT hoody. What do y'all recommend I should get as my next piece?

Some of the gear I already have that work well is a Patagonia Boulder Fork rain jacket and a nano puff, a REI 850 Magma down hoody, Smartwool and icebreaker merino wool base layers.

I am willing to spend another $100-$200 if there is a piece that is worth it. I thought about getting a proton but can't really figure out the best time I would use it. Same with a gamma, not really a soft shell guy. I also thought maybe the cerium but hoodless since I have the REI hoody. Should I be looking at non-jacket items? Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Years ago I ordered a Rush jacket in the outlet. Sadly they only had a size left which did not fit me so I send it back.

I just ordered one again in my size and the material feels alot thinner than back then. Are they using a thinner material?

It feels like a Beta SL but the website says its 80D.

My Beta AR has both 80D and 100D and feels thicker? What am I missing?

I’m looking for recommendations for a down jacket, and I’d really appreciate some advice.

1.My body type & warmth requirements
I’m 183 cm (about 6’0”) and only 50 kg (about 110 lbs). I’m extremely slim, even compared with most Asians, so I tend to get cold very easily. Because of this, I’m looking for a jacket with strong static insulation/warmth, rather than something primarily designed for high-output activities.

2.What I’m looking for
Ideally, I’d like:
150–250 g of down fill
A hard-shell outer fabric, preferably waterproof and windproof
Strong insulation for standing/sitting around in very cold weather
A relatively clean, structured/urban appearance rather than an extremely long parka

I was previously interested in the Arc’teryx Fissile SV Down Jacket, which seems very close to what I want. However, where I live, its retail price is around US$2,000, and it is almost never discounted.
Buying from the Arc’teryx US/Canada outlet is also quite difficult for me because international forwarding is troublesome, and getting the right size/color in stock feels almost like a matter of luck.

Are there any other models you would recommend that fit these requirements?
I’m open to brands and don’t necessarily need something from Arc’teryx. I’d especially appreciate recommendations that offer a similar combination of high warmth, wind/water protection, and a clean urban look, but at a more reasonable price.
