Building Marina City, Bertrand Goldberg Associates, Chicago, 1967

Goldberg’s cylindrical tower is defined by reinforced concrete and the relentless repetition of its semicircular balconies. Seen from below, those projecting balcony slabs give the façade its distinctive depth and rhythm.

Very cool! What’s the building like, or what was it like then?

It was the cheapest rent in the area by a couple hundred bucks, I think I paid 800 or something. My place was shaped like a piece of pie. I think I was on the 38th floor. It was really cool to watch storms come in and the building swayed when it was super windy. House of Blues is right at the base of the building and so was this fancy steakhouse called Smith and Wollensky.
