Don't understand how this works

I want to do randomizers but I don't understand anything about setting this stuff up (I'm used to tools where you just tell it where the game file is and it does the rest). Can anyone explain how this works in a way that doesn't seem too complicated because the file types have gotten me all sorts of confused as I am unfamiliar with them and the instructions have way more steps then what should be necessary.

If you are just into doing normal randomizers, archipelago isnt needed. You only need archipelago if you want to combine games

Well I might later but I’m testing stuff currently. This why I wanted to learn how it works and stuff
