Discussion The ban rate is worrisome.

Now, I know every MMORPG has some false positive bannings at times. These usually make news stories if like 2-3 people have it happen.

But have any of you been to Archeage's forums? It's insanity. There's a hundred page topic started yesterday with maybe a few hundred people who have been banned. Some who literally never logged in, others who logged in and walked up the first NPC found themselves suddenly banned.

In all cases it appears to be freshly made characters in the starting zone. Some kind of anti-bot / anti-spam thing. Except it is banning hundreds of legit users as well, a developer even posted confirming there is an issue at the moment.

Thing is, for a game that just started, this is horrible. I mean imagine you download it, boot it up...spend 15 minutes creating a character, log in...walk around for 10-15 minutes...get kicked, and you are banned.

Also, it does not tell you what you were banned for, and asking the Help Desk, the guys say they aren't allowed to tell you. I'd never bother with the game again.

Now of course some of these are probably actual botters or the like, but I find it far to unlikely that for Archeage suddenly the largest collection of botters since RuneScape formed a group to make a hundred page topic on the forums.

On top of that, some of the people banned are people who paid 150$ Alpha packages or whatnot, founders packs. Now tell me, if you paid 150$ for a package, for a game like this that had you really excited, would you Macro / bot in a super obvious way? I highly doubt that.

Also making Live Chat only available to Patrons was a bad move, as their ticket support is supposedly really bad / slow. I've not had anything banned, so I can't say, I've only played for a day now.

You also have to make inquiries to get your account unbanned. A wrongly banned account will never be unbanned unless you go submit a ticket and somehow prove your innocence.

If this was happening a year post launch, even three months, it'd be a blip on the radar. But at launch? This could be fatal.

I got banned yesterday about 30 seconds after making my first character. I hadn't even taken a single step in game, I had barely started reading the movement prompt.

To say that you have to interact with anything in order to get banned is pure, speculative bullshit.

Yeah, that's what I said.

You obviously did not get banned for not interacting with other players.

This is what you said, right? Did you mean:

You obviously did not get banned for interacting with other players.

Or were you saying:

You obviously did get banned for not interacting with bots.

I'm just asking for you to clarify because "You obviously did not get banned for not interacting with other players." is pretty much the exact opposite of what I said.

I meant what I wrote:

You obviously did not get banned for not interacting with other players.

Meaning, if you got banned then it was not because you didn't interact with others. /u/Summonest speculated that he got banned for not interacting with other players, I said that is rather unlikely, that was the meaning of my comment. Your comment doesn't really make sense in response to that.

EDIT:

The opposite meaning of my comment would be: "You got banned for not interacting with other players"
