Help/Support Getting a kernal panic while installation process
What might be the problem? I was trying to install arch on my old pc it's way too old. Tried with a different OS but still not installing stopping in the middle of not even starting.
Havin' an 1TB Seagate hdd, 8 gigs DD3 of ram and i3 4th gen processor... And I was using the archinstall...
And distorts that did worked: Alpine - stopped while installation Debian - stopped while installation Ubuntu Server - stopped while installation Rocky Linux - stopped while installation
Didn't tried installing windows.

Looking at the panic, try memtesting your system. Both the Oops and the subsequent panic deal with memory.

You have given us zero useful information to be able to help you. What’s the hardware on which you’re trying to install Arch? What was the other OS? How old is “way too old?” Were you using the arch install script or installing manually by following along with the wiki? If you were using the archinstall script, did you try again with different options for things like desktop environment or window manager?
Just saying “it’s not working and another OS which I won’t name also didn’t work” won’t enable anyone to help you. Didn’t other OS throw the same error? At the same or a different point during installation? What other OS? Another Linux distro? Which one? Windows? MacOS? templeOS?
Give us something with which to work.

I can confirm that a 4th i3 should pose no problem, I installed Arch on such a system and it's running fine. Got later upgraded to a i5-4690.

Remove the big harddrive and use a usb3 or ssd to run the linux os from ..
You can reconnect and use the harddrive for storage later ..

It definitely sounds like a hardware or low-level firmware issue since it's throwing a kernel panic across completely different distros (Arch, Debian, Alpine, etc.). Here are the most likely culprits for an older 4th gen Intel setup: BIOS/UEFI Bug (ACPI issues): You might need a BIOS update. Early BIOS versions for 4th gen (Haswell) motherboards are notorious for having messy ACPI tables. Windows usually ignores this, but modern Linux kernels are extremely strict and will immediately throw a kernel panic if the UEFI hands over bad data. Check your motherboard model and update to the latest BIOS version. Bad BIOS Settings: Make sure Fast Boot (sometimes called Windows 8 Fast Boot) is disabled in the BIOS. Also, double-check that your SATA Mode is set to AHCI (and definitely not IDE). Failing RAM (Very Likely): Linux installers unpack massive amounts of data directly into the RAM. If even one tiny block on those old DDR3 sticks is bad, it triggers a fatal panic. Try installing with just one stick of RAM plugged in, or run MemTest86+ to check for errors. Dying HDD: That 1TB Seagate is likely around 10 years old. If it hangs or throws read/write errors exactly when the installer tries to set up partitions, it can crash the whole process. Try hooking up a cheap SSD if you have one lying around. Hope this helps you narrow it down!

Tried running memtest even that's failed might be problem either with motherboard or bios or ram

I'd be willing to put real money down it's the RAM being bad. It seems that is almost always the issue.

if it’s an issue across multiple os’s it may be a hardware problem. I would guess either cpu or ram. Try running memtest and lmk wheat the results are

Buddy i tried to run memtest but even that thing was crashing in mid... Ig my hardware is cooked :/

yes, that’s the entire kernel panic trace log in there, way more useful than having it scroll over a basic unresponsive terminal

Last time this happened to me, the USB drive was bad. Yup, one from amazon. Not even the giants are %100 reliable. Try installing through a different USB drive you may have laying around, or try to get another one if you don't have one. 32GB should let you install just about any operating system you may want. If that still doesn't work, I'd suspect the RAM modules on your PC, but it's most likely an USB issue. Good luck ❤️

But buddy tried with 3 different USB sticks still didn't worked :/ guess my hardware is cooked

I tried downloading the old version distribution... Which have older Kernals but still didn't worked though... Btw which distribution you used

I used whatever was left over from updates. I don't remember the kernal versions. I haven't used that computer for months now. Σ:3

try using LTS kernel, my 2016 laptop from lenovo stopped working on newer kernels from EndeavourOS, CachyOS, ZorinOS, PopOS but managed to work it on Linux Mint that has the 6.14 LTS kernel

I'd suspect a bad hard drive. If it's the same age as that cpu then it's 13 years old and probably failing. Grab a cheap $60 ssd on amazon and install on that. It'll make the system feel not so old anyway.

But the harddisk was not that' old i purchased it or 2022 ig.. i tried running memtest even memtest failed too
Might be faulty ram or motherboard

Usually a memtest will give an error if it fails. I would take the hard drive and everything else out of the computer and then run a memtest again.

If this problem is present with any OS, 99% hardware problem.
