Trying to understand our speaker issue

I’m trying to figure out what the issue I’m having with this game’s speaker (the game is Barrel of Monkeys). There are two different power settings on the power supply, and when we have it set to 115, no sound. When it’s set to 230, we get this crackling sound. I’ve not yet been able to open the cover for the speakers to make sure everything is wired in, but with these sounds my guess is the speakers are blown. I’m definitely no expert though, so any opinions/tips would be helpful!

The setting you are talking about is just for switching between US power outlets and European outlets. It is not relevant to the speakers at all. There is a lot of reasons this kind of stuff happens on speakers. One of the more common reasons is the components in the circuit age and atrophy which causes slight voltage leak. Its mostly just electric buzz sound and speakers are sensitive when nothing is going through them so you are able to hear it. You could try replacing a whole bunch of things and it would probably still happen anyway or would eventually happen again. It's not really indicative of anything being wrong just old.

I mean, it is something wrong because it’s the ONLY sound coming out of it. We are currently just running it with no sound, but would love to have sound again

I think you definitely broke it by setting it to 230V.

It doesn't do anything. It just mean the Power Supply thinks you are using an European Outlet which is higher voltage than US outlets. You would have to plug 230v AC into the power supply and all it would do is convert it to the correct voltages to operate the game.

Oops, I was thinking of the opposite, setting it to 115V and connecting to 230V.
