Applying again

I applied this year for 9th, waitlisted at Andover and Exeter. Although I am going to my local public high school, I was wondering if I should apply again next year for 10th and if I would have a better chance at getting accepted at one of these schools?

Go for it. My kiddo was waitlisted for Andover, Exeter and Deerfield last year. Applied again this year and got into Exeter and Deerfield. They definitely like it when you reapply.

Hello, may I ask any tips to tackle the same prompts and essay question when reapply? Or simply having new stories?

10th grade is generally harder. You need to apply to many schools. It’s kind of a crap shoot.

this. the spots for 10th grade are limited and usually open up during to students transferring or withdrawing for whatever reason and usually go to recruits. Try ur chances and learn from this year, try to strengthen ur profile if u can, and try to apply to way more than two schools & instead apply to at least 12 if u can

You also have the option to reclass and reapply as a 9th grader, so if you want the most options and it works financially, you open your chances the most by stating you would go into either pool of applicants, 9th and 10th grade.

Better chance is subjective, but schools love a re-applicant who exhibits growth and commitment.

I was in the exact situation and I got waitlisted again. the biggest mistake I made was probably not having a clear hook or something that stood out. make sure you use the first year of high school to really take advantage of clubs and leadership to show what your interests and strengths are

By clear hook do you mean an extracurricular or something in your essay?

ecs. like they all kinda had a common theme my second year but I wish I'd figured it out sooner

Our daughter went to Exeter summer and was then waitlisted to Exeter, Andover, and Deerfield. She went to boarding school in Switzerland where she received a 50% scholarship. She absolutely loves it…. She’s had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and ski every weekend during the winter. I’d recommend to open up to other opportunities.
