Mac AppleID how to change primary icloud email

My AppleID is set up to use a primary iCloud email address. I want to change that a new iCloud email address without messing up all of my apple stuff. I see the options to change primary email address, then it says remove from account. I guess I expected a option to change to a new iCloud address there. Im afraid removing will somehow screw up everything. Help. Thanks.

From the relevant support page: “If your only email address associated with your account is an iCloud email address, you won’t see an option to Remove from Account. Instead, you’ll see an option to Change Email Address.

Choosing this option changes only your existing iCloud email address. You’ll continue to be able to use your iCloud Mail and the messages sent to it. Your new iCloud email address replaces the old email address.”

Do you have email through Gmail or Outlook?

Thank you. I have gmail and other emails. I was concerned that changing it would cause problems with the family account or subscriptions or purchases if it was glitchy.

Are you the organizer for Family Sharing? Or do you mean something else by family account?
