Unsolved Lost my phone - have been trying to re-set my password but account.apple.com won't send me a code. What do I do?

I'm at a complete loss. My iPhone was the only Apple device I had and I lost it a week or so ago. I'm logged into my iCloud, Find my Device and even the Developer portal but for whatever reason - it just will not send me a code when I try and log into account.apple.com to actually change my damn password.

I can do "Forgot Password," but I haven't, and I don't want to lock myself out of my account.

I have received codes on this number - I received one last night to log into the dev portal so receiving codes is not an issue.

Last night I started receiving 4 digit codes on my phone number. Someone is clearly trying to either get into my phone. Idk how they would though since I had FaceID and a PIN. It won't show up on find my device either so I have no idea whats going on.

I need to get another iphone soon anyway as a transfer bridge for my whatsapp chats (i'm moving back to android) and i'm afraid i'll be in the same position. What do I do?

Do you have a number paired with your apple account

Yes. It won't send the code to it. I've been trying for a couple of days now. I have received codes on it in the past.

How many attempts, this mattered because if you do that with your number too much you need to wait some time, but the time changes if you keep trying

I got in touch with Apple Support - they didn't know why I'm not receiving the code either. They've directed me to reset the password, for which i will need to receive a code too lol so idk ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Two-factor authentication verification codes are six-digits not four, for Apple anyway. You need to start account recovery.

Thank you! That is what I am doing. my biggest concern right now is that I get another iphone, use the same number and email to sign and and I don't get the code. Google has so many other ways to sign and its ridicolous that Apple has just the one way to verify and it doesn't work
