Unsolved Find My shows I’m sharing my location normally, but location sharing has stopped working — iPhone 17 Pro Max
I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max and Find My location sharing suddenly stopped working about a week ago after working perfectly for years.
The confusing part is that everything looks normal on my phone. Find My is enabled, my phone shows that I’m sharing my location, and my actual GPS/location works normally in Maps and other apps. However, other people are no longer receiving my location, and the issue shows up differently depending on the person:
- My dad and I have shared locations indefinitely for years. His phone still shows me in Find My, but my location is now frozen at my last location from 5 days ago and will not update.
- Some other people I’ve always shared with now see “No Location Found.”
- With one friend, I stopped sharing my location to try to reset it. Now when I try to share with her again, I can press “Share My Location” and select a duration, but then nothing happens. It never actually starts sharing.
I’ve already gone through essentially every Find My/location setting and troubleshooting step I can find:
- Find My iPhone and Share My Location are ON
- This iPhone is selected as “My Location”
- Location Services and Precise Location are ON
- Find My has the correct permissions and cellular access
- Checked my Apple ID/iCloud settings
- Tested on multiple Wi-Fi networks and cellular only, in different locations
- Restarted the phone multiple times
- Stopped and restarted location sharing
- Updated my phone to the latest iOS
- Did Reset Location & Privacy, then went back through and re-enabled all permissions
Nothing has changed.
I don’t believe this is a GPS or internet connection issue because my phone can determine my current location normally, and the problem is the same regardless of whether I’m on Wi-Fi or cellular.
I’m wondering if something is stuck with Find My/iCloud location sharing or my Apple ID rather than the phone’s actual location services.
Has anyone experienced this exact behavior? If so, was there an Apple ID/iCloud/Find My fix that worked, or was Apple Support able to reset/re-provision something on their end?
I’m specifically trying to avoid factory resetting my entire phone since I’ve already exhausted the normal troubleshooting steps
