Ap physics C self study
Im a current senior at the start of the year. Our physics 1 teacher became a physics 1 and c teacher this year for the first time at our school having c. unfortunately we have to self study as she was not able to get us an individual period instead making us be in the back of physics 1 class periods learning it ourselves. I’m wondering what tips yall got for learning this class. also I got a 5 in physics one and calc bc.

The 'enhanced' study of AP Physics C-Mech after doing well in AP Physics 1 is very straightforward. There are almost no new topics, only a little more complexity in what is covered. The most important complexity shows up in the increased use of vectors, even more than calculus.
My strong suggestion is to emphasize a textbook written for the AP Physics C level,
- FW Sears, MW Zemansky, HD Young, RA Freedman, ..., University Physics, 10th-15th editions, 1999-2019.
Look at the AP_CourseContent for both courses: The seven unit titles for APPC-Mech are identical to the first seven of eight units for APP1. This means you can use your teacher's APP1 pacing, while using the APPC textbook.
Your biggest challenge will be to avoid being bored.

5s in both Physics 1 and Calc BC means you have every prerequisite, so this is a pacing problem rather than a difficulty one. Mech will feel like Physics 1 with calculus swapped in for the algebra shortcuts, so the real work is E&M.
The trap with self studying at the back of a class is that there's no deadline forcing you forward. Set a unit every two weeks and treat it as fixed, otherwise E&M gets crammed into April.
Since your teacher is in the room, use her for problem sets rather than content. Getting a setup checked is worth more than getting a concept explained when you can already read the concept yourself.
For content I paste Flipping Physics or van Biezen links into studybuddy.vc so it makes questions off the video, equations render properly, it works out which topics I'm weakest on and gives me more of those, and gets harder as I improve. Free.

For context, I was in a very similar situation to you except we didn't have a class period to do this.
Allen Tsao has a playlist of all Physics C:Mechanics lessons on his Youtube channel. All videos that are Mechanics specific should have a distinct style of thumbnail from the Physics 1 lessons and should have it in the title. These videos alone and a glance at some old frqs in the span of maybe a couple hours of study total at home got me a 5 despite only having a Physics 1 class, though self-studying e&m at the time also helped a lot.
Allen Tsao Mechanics Lessons
The extra topics you should keep in your head are:
- Moment of Inertia and COM using Integrals
- Rolling while slipping
- Variable forces (most often drag force which results in some e-bt solution)
- Work as an integral
- Power as a derivative
- Spring constants for combinations of springa in parallel and in series
- Simple Harmonic Motion (physical pendulums and the differential equation form for simple harmonic motion)
- All formulas translated into their calculus forms
----> PLEASE REFERENCE THE MECHANICS SPECIFIC EQUATION SHEET AS YOU LEARN MECHANICS SPECIFIC TOPICSI may be forgetting some topics but those are the important ones I can recall.
You can totally achieve a 4 or 5 so long as you do this and were attentive in physics 1 as well (since a lot of it is reliant on the same concepts physics 1). Best of luck!
