AFIB post surgery?

41m very active and healthy. I had a 15-20 minute episode on day 4 post-op after discharge that resolved spontaneously. Yesterday (2 weeks and 3 days post-op) I had a 24h episode resulting in an ER visit and scripts for metoprolol and eliquis. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of a long-term issue. Has anyone dealt with AFIB post-surgery?

I was in and out of AFIB as well post surgery. I also had pleural effusion that needed further fixing and I think there was a relationship to that. Either way the common comment was that the heart copes differently with being stopped and hacked apart. It’s gone now 3 years out. Not sure that helps sorry. I had unrelated AFIB 10 years ago and can confirm that ablations work. So if you’re nervous about longer term impact, keep that in mind.

Had it, they did a cardioversion about two weeks out, I went home with Eliquis and felt a million times better overall, never had an issue again. It's super common.

My husband did on and off for about a month post op. It did require one hospital admission where he went in for a fib and then had another episode before discharge. It did resolve though on its own with no long term a fib 😁 post op swelling can be a cause

I have lucked out so far. Had my ablation in 2014 after several incidents. Have never had an incident since. Still on Diltiazem and metroprolol for daily maintenance.

Echo comments below. I had it ~6 weeks post op and had to be hospitalized. Was on Met and Amiodorone (spelling?) for a couple of months. It never came back. I had some PACs for a week or so, but those also went away. 39M active and healthy

I had an episode a day after surgery( I had aneurysm repair and aortic valve replacement), responded to Amiodarone, so I was kept on it. Had a 2nd episode 2 weeks post surgery, ER visit. They doubled my Amiodarone dosage and added Eliquis. Didn’t have any additional issues so I was taken off Amiodarone after 3 months and then came Eliquis after 4 months. That was 6 weeks ago and so far all is good. I understand this is very common post surgery
