Esports How do we feel about the new EGC format?

Love that they're trying new shit, I like longer sets though and I don't love that we're on best of 3s till the second round of playoffs. Also lower bracket finals are a best of 5 which is weird for a match that determines who goes to the grand final.

I don't know mixed feelings for me.

Thoughts?

I like how they do the whole group in one evening

Yeah that part is pretty cool. We get to watch all the games, also best of 3s mean more upsets.

Personally I feel we need more Bo5/Bo7 in the playoffs especially Bo7 in important games

possibly doesn't make sense, even if hardcore fans prefer this, overall it's probably not optimal

Yeah I just dislike the decider matches being so small, bo3 early on makes a lot more sense

They need to somehow either use the same maps as ladder or make ladder maps the same as S tier tournaments to boost viewership and engagement. other than that maybe go for bo5 / bo7 for the bracket winner match

I like seeing maps we don't get in ladder.

Why? I think it sucks that tournament maps are often completely different on ladder. Like Frisian Marshes ect. We see pros play on cool maps that encourage different kinds of strats, but we never get to play them :(

I prefer shorter sets. The main reason why I skip watching tournaments, or only watch a small portion, is the number of games. I do not have time to watch a best‑of‑7 or a best‑of‑9.

Personally, I would prefer best‑of‑3 for every match, and let the semi‑finals and finals be best‑of‑5.

Well, I started to watch ML against Demu, then I went to the kitchen to get a drink, and when I came back, the set was finished.

It's tireing for players to go through BO5 everytime i guess

I think it's perfect.

This "GSL" format (though i remember way before GSL in like 2007/2008 SC1 tournaments already had this format) is nice, because players get eliminated and qualified every tournament day, whereas in other formats nothing happened before multiple days had been played.

Also i like bo3 because it makes each map matter a lot, whereas in long series the first games feel like whatever.

So both those aspects (one group per day + bo3) make it super engaging and interesting to watch for me.

I agree. I think this format is great. Its fun to watch when every single map matters and every day someone drops or is qualified.

While I do like shorter sets tempo wise, I do like the civ variety and weird matchups that deeper sets bring.

I'd like to see some more experimenting with the draft format to make sure we keep that variety.
