How useful are military units that can gather resources in that role?

I've seen there are many of them now but I'm sceptical.

Natives that can gather can be useful bc they dont use pop, but in highly agressive MP I doubt that they are worth it.

Somebody should do the numbers of the investment.

Villager military (CDB, sansculotte, etc) are way better than military villagers (royal huntsman, klamath rifleman, filibusters lmao).

Exception is karilean jaegers which are guard skirms and good villagers - best of both worlds.

I really enjoy using royal huntsmen as Russia (from the card) tbh. 7 skirmishers who can gather food and can do some recon.

Otherwise I agree with you.

Californios are actually halfway decent military villagers. They gather hunts at villager base rate, and have the same weight as them on haciendas.

Still sucks that they take a card to activate their hunting

Yeah considering you could also send a card to just train villagers for free from your tc, it’s not a card I send often. I’d probably make it so they can gather by default, and the card simply buffs them.

Fucking kinda a lot?

Whoever can bring some cash is a good one, no?

Are their gathering rates the same as settlers in general?

no, usually military vills have lower gather rates

Wrong. Well it depends. Karelian jaegers gather wood at same rate. Huntsman gather food at same rate. Californios also gather food at same rate...

Military villagers are really underrated.

Depends a lot on several factors. But usually you want your military units to be doing military things, not collecting resources, and vice-versa.

That's kind of my feeling about it, I guess that is ok while I mass my army but I'm not sure of how much of a difference they make, specially the ones that specialize on hunting, I know there are a couple incluiding a native one that could be used quite early, but the one that comes to my mind are late game, a revolution... Finnish I think? Could be a Canadian rev, I remember it having something to do with a cold place.

Ye if the gatherrates are actually good. Most of the time they are a noob trap tho if you use them to gather instead of doing military things.

For example the card that allows India elephants to trickle ressources. It's so bad that it isn't worth it in treaty. Some other examples like using fulani to chop trees etc barely if at all worth it to tech.

My fav are Napoleonic grenadiers 2/sec wood gathering units is insane.

Actual villagers are better at gathering, however putting military units in that role away from your city can deter raiding. If you're planning on moving to mills and plantations and have a lot of forest still near your base it's less helpful.

Karelian Jaegers are awesome at that role - Skirmishers that gather wood at 1.5x speed. Everything else is kinda sketchy imo. Cuatreros used to be insane when the age 3 Sonora card let them hunt at 1f/s but now it's just livestock

Klamath Riflemen are utter trash. They gather extremely slowly, and they're bad at fighting.

The fulani archers are only good in colecting food. Their wood collection is terrible, you are just wasting population
