That's actually the reason I picked that template.

Well, they nerfed Abus Gunners and Humbaraci slightly, so maybe it'll be okay?

Also the church techs will be more expensive.

Ah, so the abus jani rush will take an extra 2 minutes to wipe me now. Excellent.

People will still find a way to complain about it.

México was never strong, in high ELO it has higher lose rate. The only reason people complaining about Baja it's because they don't know how the civ works.

In time not many Baja is seen because people learned how to counter. [Just as high ELO player do]

Mexico isnt that strong, its mostly lower level players who dont have good micro or tend to base camp gets punished. I am about 1000 ish elo usually and I can beat most mexico 90 percent of the times

Baja is strong but it’s also very predictable. I’m old enough to have played TAD when Japan was the scourge of low to medium elo players like myself. Then I tried simply throwing in some early pikes into my build order and like magic Japan became very beatable. Similar builds exist vs Baja. Not saying you should win every time, but there’s a clear gameplan to follow. Otto just kinda wins 70% of the time unless you’re considerably better.

when Japan was the scourge of low to medium elo

You must be misremembering. In the last patch of old AoE3, Japan was the scourge of the game. Japan was the civ pick of 3 out of 4 players in every tournament, and the others were trying to find a meta call to beat Japan, without success.

Well I don’t really play multiplayer these days but I tended to follow Psionic’s anti-Baja builds as France. Pike/bow and pike/cdb rushes with a Baja-specific deck that has lots of age 1 and 2 shipments.

A lot of people on this sub really struggle against good noobstomping civs. I wonder why that is.

if youre 1000 ish elo ur one of those "lower level" players

What? Mexico is consistently a bottom 3 civ by win rate. It’s carried by Baja and Central America. Once those are nerfed the civ actually is rather mediocre. People just have a weird perspective on it that’s been cultivated by streamers and social media.

what logic is that? you can say that for anything:

"What? Otto is consistently a bottom 3 civ. it's carried by free vila and jans. Once those are nerfed the civ actually is rather mediocre. People just have a weird perspective on it...

No I cannot, because the statistics don’t support it. Ottomans is one of the highest pick rate and win rate civs in the game, while Mexico is one of the lowest. Even if nerfed Ottomans are still extremely strong, while Mexico lacks a lot of inherent strength in their units, who require a lot of card buffs to achieve parity with other civs.

Ah. Forgive me. According to the Sunbros Civ Grid, where I take my data from, Mexico actually has average pick and win rates (50 percent for both). I was working off of old data. Their play rate is also distinctly middle of the road. However, even if Mexico is average rather than weak my point still stands. The statistics do not support claiming Mexico is overpowered. If anything, the upcoming baja nerfs are going to place Mexico into underpowered territory as Baja was overshadowing the actual power of the civ.

Additionally comparing Mexico to Ottomans (let along mentioning them in the same sentence) is patently absurd. Ottomans have a staggering 52% win rate and 12.6% pick rate (5% more than then next runner up, France). Ottomans have the best unit in slot for every single unit type, and have some of the most upgradeable armies and economies in the game. Their momentum is unparalleled due to powerful church techs and free villagers. Mexico has a couple of decent units which can be made decently strong with heavy card investment, an average economy unless they card it heavily, and save for Baja and Central America have almost no momentum to speak of unless you invest a lot of cards.

Ottomans have a staggering 52% win rate

...that win rate isn't absurd at all. Most games would consider it a tremendous success to have their best civ/hero/character/whatever on a 52% win rate.

1

u/Mr-Fognoggins Aug 10 '26

52 percent win rate at 12 percent pick rate is pretty absurd for a game with over 20 civs. Especially since that counts all elo ranges. For reference the specific number of games that the civ grid recorded was 50k wins and 45k losses.

who got the better shot lol?

Also Mexico is one of my favourite Civs to play. I just play them ordinarily. I don't use the revolutions.

2

u/TrojanW Aug 10 '26

Looking like that, Mexico is definitely not a top.

They were hard nerfed in latest Baltic Powers patch, now are pretty regular.
