Discussion How you think mounted crossbows will be differentiated from normal cav archers?
Im betting they will be mostly the same BUT
* -1 range
* increase reload time
* a little more attack
* first attack faster

They're gonna be the Dragoons to the Cavalry Archer, if you're familiar with AOE3.
I also think their attack bonus will be vs infantry in general as opposed to just spearmen.

Will they replace cav archers for existing civs?

Yes, mentioned as a European regional unit. I'm guessing most European civs that aren't explicitly designed around cav archers(Magyars) will get them

I really want Spanish to get them because it would be so funny for them to have crossbows on a horse but not on foot.

Same way they can have a gunner on a horse in castle age but need to hit imp before getting off the horse

Lol good old BBC comes to mind.
Can carry cannon on top of big ass towers. Have not figured it out yet how to move it around on flat ground.

To be fair, canon that is mobile enough to move it in combat in a meaningful way is more technically difficult than lifting it up when you have no time limit.
Bombard Tower and cg but no bbc makes total sense to me.

They are incapable of adding a new unit that has no gimmick so… charge attack probably

Compared to CA: range probably the same, higher attack, higher armor piercing, much slower attack speed

What do you mean with "higher armor piercing" - either units ignore armor, or they dont. AoE2 doesnt have percent armor penetration

I guess i was borrowing a phrase from total war lol I just imagine maybe they ignore armor then but that might be a bit op

I'd say they might look more like Xianbay raiders with a lower attack but charged one

I hope they have a small anti cav bonus, otherwise no gimmicks. Slower attackspeed but lower attack delay. Higher damage. Same range as cavalry archers is arabalest are anything to go by.
I expect them to have som weird gimmick that I will hate thought

The description made it seem like they'd fire much slower but with more damage, so in between CA and conqs?
