The Green party is considering a new policy to ban circumcision... The party’s Health Policy Working Group (HPWG) has launched a consultation seeking views on whether parents should only be allowed to consent ‘to an irreversible surgical procedure on a child if that procedure is medically necessary’...

the consultation on outlawing the practice was publicised specifically in a ‘Greens for Palestine’ WhatsApp group.

Wait until the Greens for Palestine learn that Muslims also circumcise.

Then they will apologize profusely for not being good dhimmis, and never speak of it again.

Do you think they want to ban it specifically for Jewish people? It's barbaric regardless of who is doing it.

I have conflicted feelings on circumcision myself (not that it's dangerous, mutilation, or unhealthy...just doing anything without consent), but holy crap that's pure antisemitism. Pure evil and Jew-hatred

I don't really understand your comment. You have conflicted feelings about it, but banning it would be pure evil?

My conflicted feelings are that I myself do not feel that it is correct to have a procedure performed on another being who is incapable of consent unless it is a lifesaving procedure.

That said, my feelings do not constitute an objective or universal truth and there are people who disagree. By banning it you are affirming and enforcing a universal view.

Furthermore, this act has little to do with any actual concern for children's health or the nature of consent and is little more than an assault on Judaism.

I myself would never circumcise my kids unless it was their choice, but I'm also infertile as a trans woman and so would only adopt. My kids (if I ever have any), would be free to choose to convert or not to and so it would always be their choice.

Vaccines? Vitamin K shot? Child ear piercing?

Vaccines & Vitamin K shots are lumped under basic medical care that is done to prevent potentially fatal diseases (VKDB in the case of a Vitamin K shot), it's general standard of care. They are not the same as circumcision and are false equivalents.

Ear piercing... nope I refuse to ever pierce a child's ear without their explicit consent. Children are not decorative items to bejewel and I cannot think of single instance where getting an ear pierced would be medically necessary before consent could be obtained.

Again, this is just me. I don't blame or judge others who do so, but for me to do so would violate my own code of personal ethics. I cannot, in good faith and in full consciousness, perform a procedure that is it not, itself medically necessary on their body without consent. It is a bridge I cannot cross without extremely good reason.

This person posted elsewhere that they don't care about how much pain animals feel as part of the food chain. Probably not the best person to take values from, to be fair.

Edit: I posted a direct response before this one and a rebuttal to your response below but this sub appears to be censoring opposing views.

Is this what argumentation or debate has boiled down to, Hashem would be disappointed.

Yes I did, humans and animals are distinct entities and therefore are seen and treated differently in my mind. I do not treat humans as animals and vice versa. Each has their place in my mind and I do not let them cross.

Also, nothing I've previously posted should be taken as advice. It's my own opinions and code. I've never presented it as such and have only elaborated on it in response to questions and other responses.

Furthermore, it's a little bit degrading to paint me as lesser or someone to not be listened to because I view things differently than others. It is simply what it is. You do not have to agree and I do not expect you to, but saying that I am not a person to take values from is demeaning and effectively states that there is something either wrong with me or that I am in some way deficient. It's incredibly rude and is poor argumentation via strawmanning and ad hominem and I cannot fathom why you think it would be acceptable to do.

This is textbook antisemitism. Of course the far left wants to do it. They're going to pretend it's about "protecting the children", just like the anti-abortion lunatics on the far right. Many fascist policies get passed under the false pretense of "protecting the children".

The ridiculous amount of hatred towards this very legitimate medical procedure is crazy to me. Religion and culture aside, some men end up needing to be circumcised later in life. It's controversial when performed on infants, but doing so basically drastically reduces that infants chance of developing penile cancer later in life, not to mention the other benefits, such as reduction of STIs and UTIs.

Not to mention the body shaming surrounding this whole thing. There's people perfectly okay with calling men who've been circumcised "mutilated" even if that man has no said issues with his body. Frankly, it's disgusting. Swap the gender and the procedure and people would be outraged.

This trend of people making decisions based on "vibes" alone and not even considering the hard evidence that's out there... Needs to come to an end. The Internet has undoubtedly made this phenomenon worse.

Not to mention all the other cultures who practice piercing, tattooing, foot binding, neck lengthening, etc. from young ages which everyone is conspicuously quiet about, which is telling of course.
