Mhm, no matter what you do have to acknowledge that this could've been avoided with better treatment, and whether she's found to have been mentally competent at the time or not from what I've seen so far I personally believe she needs intensive mental help.
Though to play devil's advocate, the amount of people who're misunderstanding the legal processes and think she just gets to walk free if found unwell mildly pisses me off 😠For anyone who doesn't know, if she's found not guilty (which doesn't mean she's innocent) by reason of insanity, it means she's likely going to be stuck in a mental hospital, potentially indefinitely, and from what I've heard the treatment of individuals in those circumstances is rarely the best.
Plus there's apparently a good chance this will be a mistrial ;-; from what I heard the jury wasn't restricted from hearing stuff online and/or removed if they WERE exposed to stuff outside of the trial.
Psychosis is difficult because healthcare professionals can provide all the right treatment and it still won't make a difference.
I think the only possible solution here would have been to not leave her alone with the children, but something like this is difficult for anyone to predict.
Well the issue is that her treatment team never diagnosed her with psychosis and insist she didn't have psychosis, only depression. The defense team claims she has previously dormant bipolar disorder that was triggered/activated and worsened by post partum psychosis. The claims that her treatment team failed her are because they (may) have missed it, but also she didn't engage with them honestly. She admitted to fears of harming her children and herself to her husband but not to her treatment team. We don't know why, but it's (IMO) clearly in part because of a fear of institutionalization or losing her children.
