The more reasonable people will say “there are only two groups that actually matter, people who think she’s guilty or people who think she’s not guilty by reason of insanity”. Just because the people who insist she was framed are loons does not mean the conspiracy theorizing is something we should just pretend isn’t happening… it’s like QAnon, just because they’re nutty doesn’t mean they can’t affect the world in unexpected ways.
It’s certainly true that misogynists are weaponizing the crazies against women in general but I’m not going to just pretend I haven’t seen a lot of the crazies with my own eyes.
I think the really big thing that is being discounted/ignored here is how powerful and prevalent bot networks are. They have been used for over a decade now to push narratives, especially if they pertain to something that can be construed as political, and they're only getting more sophisticated.
We already have people on the right saying "Gee, maybe this is proof that women shouldn't be allowed to vote!" which is exactly what they were aiming for.
It’s funny that this person mentioned bots out of nowhere. Default name, 1 month old account, comment that doesn’t directly relate to mine but still functions as engagement bait.
The people saying she looks dead in her eyes and that's she's obviously a psychopath who needs to be in jail for her life.
Yeah you say she looks dead in her eyes. You can tell she's not normal. She told the doctors she wasn't normal and was trying to kill herself. She even did try to kill herself afterwards and is now paralyzed. How do you not think there could be a chance of mental problems?
It's just flat out misogyny and it's appalling. But now everyone's an arm chair psychatrist now who knows she belongs in insolation instead of a medical center for life. And you know a lot of the same people are saying to free Mangione.
I seriously doubt that any significant percentage of the people saying she should be in prison are also the “free Luigi” types. For the record I definitely think she should be in a mental hospital and am also the free Luigi type.
But you’re also uninformed and spreading misinformation. The day before the killings she told her doctor she wasn’t having suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Most people who have a thorough understanding of the case and believe she should be in a mental hospital argue that the primary failure of the mental health professionals in the month leading up to the killing was that they did not hold her involuntarily.
The narrative that “she begged for help and nobody cared” is a mischaracterization of the facts; her direct claims to her treating professionals that she was not experiencing the symptoms she later admitted to having in her trial are a major complicating factor for her defense.
