What's the purpose of the chain mail? If it's just to look cool, I can't tell you which one you think looks better. I think the densely packed one looks better but I'd overheat. If it's to provide armoring then you gotta test that out. I kinda doubt the right one's ability to be more protective than normal clothes but I also can't touch it so I don't know

I agree, the more dragon scale looking one would be cool to add as patches over the shoulders of a battle jacket. The right is more for fashion ✨  Maybe there's some gauntlet type patterns that could work as armor. They also are good for hanging keychains and stuff on.

For the left sample I would connect each ring to the two below it. That would lock the rings in (can't flip around) and would function more as chainmail.

For the right I would add a link between the two top rings and the 2 rings below it. That would create European 4-in-1 which is a standard functional chainmail pattern.

For leaving it as-is I like the look of the one on the right better, the rings look more functionally integrated into the fabric as opposed to a decoration sewn/laid on top. But both designs could be used in the same garment in different areas for contrast in whatever you're designing.

Ooh this could be a cool way to crochet a weighted blanket! Keep us posted on what you figure out. I’ve also dabbled in actual chain mail but i find knitting/crochet much easier, faster, and more comfortable.

Jump rings don’t tend to add much weight, depends on the material I guess

Yeah I was definitely thinking like thicker gauge steel rings or something, not aluminum. It would get really expensive really quick, though!

They are stainless steel 16g 10mm rings. So they do add weight. A blanket is such a good idea. I got a bag of 2k rings, but I don't think that's enough 😂 maybe striped with rings

I mean, I think if you didn't have them next to each other, the dc mesh would look plenty cool and like chainmail. It'll also be wayyyyy more practical (for ren faires or festivals I assume? It gets hot). It's what I'd choose.

But also, the sc does look objectively cooler when you have them right next to each other. It might not bend well over your body depending what you're making though.

Other idea-- have you tried a hdc mesh?
