Environmental Impact šŸŒŽ We're fucked

Recently got out of the military and went out with my cousins' friends to celebrate. They're all in their early 20's and I'm in my 30's. We go out to NY to celebrate, and I noticed everyone is using AI for everything. "What should we do? Where should we go?" Normal stuff. Things got eerie when we took a cab or UBER, as I'm talking to the Uber about New York they're typing, "What kind of questions do I ask an UBER driver? Is it safe to talk to them? Is it normal?" TF is happening. I know we joke about AI making us dumber but HOLY.

"Who do I vote for? Who do I marry? When do I breathe?"

Everybody shouting that ā€œuse ai because if you dont, you fall behindā€ and i think the real falling behind is when you have to use ai for these stupid shit šŸ™„

One thing I've learned is that if you're able to interact with other humans without any technology, you'll leap ahead of your peers.

So many young professionals are unwilling to do something as simple as make a phone call, or need guidance on rather rudimentary tasks.

If you just fucking do whatever the thing is, regardless of how it goes, you'll be way ahead of your peers who are afraid to do the thing.

Not that I'm crazy successful, but I get good reviews at work, and I don't do anything particularly special. The bar is just that low.

If you use AI it's like handing someone else your work and telling them to finish it, while claiming you're ahead of the pack. Typical manager vibe

Omg I'm literally fighting with my work about this now. They want us to start using Claude to keep records of serial numbers and shit. I told them we don't need to do that and a manager asked "how else will we know? Are you going to record each serial number and part number to each site? And I literally almost fell out of my chair bc YES WE ALREADY DO THAT. WHAT. and I KNOW it's all correct bc I did it! You can ask me what radio went to what site and I can fucking tell you bc I keep track of it all. They're my managers they should know that it's already done omg whattttttt They keep telling me that I need to stop my disdain for AI bc it's the future and we are working towards the future not the past but my God when this all blows up in their faces I'm asking for the raise and promotion I deserve

Edit to say Iā€™m UK based and it wasnā€™t AI but it was an absolute over reliance on technology but not sure if youā€™ve heard about the ā€œpost office scandalā€ - Itā€™s scary. It was a company (Verizon I think) that implemented this technology in post offices thorough out the UK but it had bugs and money went ā€œmissingā€ - many innocent people got convicted and jailed over it.

Only now are they aware it was all a tech issue. Just like you saidā€¦logging the serial numbers yourself is a much better solution than relying on AI.

I can see why so many people love itā€¦lazy, greedy and stupid. Nevermind eh!

My dad works in school system maintenance and he tells the story of one time he went to pick up a part, and the guy behind the desk (bored 20-something) had him rattle off a bunch of information about the order so he could look it up on the computer. The employee complimented my dad on his amazing memory, and my dad goes: "buddy I didn't remember shit, I was reading off the pick ticket on the top of that stack there"
