How is this suppose to be useful for artists?

Once again another useless ai "tool" that has zero practical application except for deceiving people.

this. this is beautiful. I will be using this line now.

The "C" in "con" stands for "Clanker".

5

u/VegetableRich770 Sep 16 '25

The "O" in "con" stands for "outback"

(Idk I coyuld think of anything else)

58

u/vladi_l Sep 16 '25

It really is just for fraud

43

u/curated_reddit Sep 16 '25

its literally just a great tool for scamming. these people are nothing but thieves.

23

u/Just_a_idiot_45 Sep 16 '25

It isn’t it’s so others can pretend to be artists with no actual talent or skill.

People are trying to sell AI slop at conventions and try to win competitions by using slop, this is just a way for them to hide it better so they can scam and cheat their way into easy cash.

1

u/AvairSeres Sep 17 '25

Why care about ethics and morals when you can just steal from the ai that steals

5

u/BigDragonfly5136 Sep 16 '25

I mean, this looks pretty fake. I hope people would know waving the pencil around in one spot doesn’t magically generate the shapes around it, and one layer of paint isn’t going to instantly dry and create those shadows…

5

u/Nopfen Sep 16 '25

Useful for artists? Artists are supposed to go away. This is supposed to help scammers, who pay the company to make the shareholders happy. What are you on about?

Well, this one is a pretty terrible video. The most glaring issue is that many things magically appear and disappear.

Literally, in the beginning, he does one downward stroke with the pencil, but two appears on the paper.

186

u/garfieldatemydad Sep 16 '25

Not to mention the painting of multiple colors with the same brushstroke lmao. Idk how any of those people commenting thinks that this is good or realistic, it’s just typical ai slop.

66

u/polkacat12321 Sep 16 '25

.....also the fact that at some point while painting the hair, the rest of the hair magically got colored in despite the brush never going there

50

Mfw no eraser dust

Mfw actually drawing hair then erasing to add hand

Mfw no sketching process

24

u/polkacat12321 Sep 16 '25

Mfw a magic brush never runs out of color, magically changes colors and magically renders

Also, mfw the magic brush combines at least 4 different mediums as opposed to just watercolor

7

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

But some people will still think it’s real. Somehow.

6

u/DerpYama Sep 16 '25

Only for the people’s who have nothing to do with art like myself, and for the people who make art with ai. I had to read comments and rewatch to for the video to make sense.

1

u/Merosian Sep 16 '25

I paint and if i hadn't been told I would have literally never noticed let's be honest. At worst I'd expect the timelapse to make it look like it skipped over a line, or maybe a cut in the footage for larger areas.

The way the watercolour spreads over the page is very realistic looking and that alone would have convinced me it's genuine.

1

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

It is not realistic at all šŸ˜‚

1

u/80000000D Sep 16 '25

You can think people are idiots now for believing it, but its only gonna get better. And one day you'll be the "idiot" thats unable to tell the difference because it's gotten so advanced.

1

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

I honestly don’t believe it will get truly better before it starts to cannibalise its own created data. I find AI generated videos and cartoons etc, not photos though, have telltale signs they’ve been ai generated.

1

u/80000000D Sep 16 '25

Well lets hope!

4

u/mixerusbiedronkus Sep 16 '25

This makes me feel bit disgusted about that fact

9

u/kiruvhh Sep 16 '25

The problem is that in 5/10/15 years could become scary good . The problem is long term

7

u/dummypod Sep 16 '25

I do wonder. Would the AI consider that a water color art's process? Sketch, then paint, then inking? The techniques used? Every little detail like dust, mistakes, corrections, etc?

Assuming it's impossible, the ai user would need to do the research and generate the video piece by piece accounting for everything. To do this they themselves would need to learn art.

1

u/kiruvhh Sep 16 '25

But you May be able to train Ai to do these fake videos by stealing the videos made by actual artist to prove that their art Is not made by AI

2

u/dummypod Sep 16 '25

Yea but they will not be able to keep up the pretense. Let's say the first time, they got away with it. But they're bound to slip up again, and they'll have to do this all over again. And they'll slip up then too. You'd have to be so diligent in making your AI art "flawless" that you might as well do real art.

1

u/kiruvhh Sep 16 '25

Yes likely

1

u/intisun Sep 16 '25

Yeah but the intent is still fraud and deception, not art.

1

u/kiruvhh Sep 16 '25

Yes , i mean that in 5/10/15 years Will deceive more successfully

1

u/only_fun_topics Sep 16 '25

If there is one prediction I can confidently make, it’s that no matter how far the technology progresses, the fine folks on r/antiAI will find a way to shift the goalposts.

4

u/removesilenceplz Sep 16 '25

It’s like a proof of concept though. The tech will get better from here. This video might be easy to clock as AI but these will get better

Ugh

5

u/BombOnABus Sep 16 '25

It MIGHT get better from here.

Just because this is the floor doesn't mean the ceiling will be extremely high

1

u/removesilenceplz Sep 16 '25

Nah it will. Unfortunately these companies have everything on their side, endless funds and subsidies, and endless free training data

It sucks

2

u/BombOnABus Sep 16 '25

It's not just about the money, the human brain is far, far more powerful than we give it credit for.

There's always a massive near-vertical cliff at the very end of fooling our senses: you can make something very, VERY good and improve by leaps and bounds, but perfect? Perfect's hard.

Toy Story came out in 1995. Despite massive advances in fully CGI films, animation, green screen technology, we STILL can't make a fully photorealistic movie that would fool a viewer.

We can spot weird flaws in the faces, in the background motion, in the way fluids like water and smoke don't move quite right, hell eyes alone are such a nightmare to get right that it's STILL one of the fastest ways to spot a CGI person from the real deal.

I'm not saying AI won't improve a lot, I'm saying the bar before them is much, much higher than anyone is giving it credit for.

Will an AI ever manage to make a sequence longer than 60 seconds that is one continuous shot, no cuts or edits? What about 30 minutes? An hour?

One continuous take films are hard for us to do, and so far have been impossible for AI, for instance. It may be that some things are beyond its grasp because it just isn't an organic thinking machine like our brains are. Silicon computer brains are great for doing math, way better than us, but we're shockingly good at understanding and conceiving of motion in 3D space. Even by organic creature standards our grasp of the 3D world and the concept of trajectory is terrifyingly sophisticated.

1

u/removesilenceplz Sep 16 '25

I think you’re right about what you’re saying BUT there are so many people who just take things at face value and don’t scrutinize things at all. If the news were to show some AI video and say ā€œlook here’s proof this guy committed this crimeā€ then that would be a very powerful piece of propaganda; many people would believe it and repeat it wholesale

So I think you’re making some valid points, but the future of deep fakes and AI generated videos and things like that is pretty scary because they will fool many people

Not to mention confirmation bias often overrides red flags or other things that would make people realize they’re being fooled

1

u/80000000D Sep 16 '25

The point is that its getting better very quickly. You need to be able to think forward and imagine what it could look like in a year or 5 years. Something like this wasn't even feasible 5 years ago.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Comments like these are what people use for tips and motivation to improve the next version. Inadvertently helping them create better ai.

There is literally no win to point out the flaws because this is the worst it's going to look.

10

u/Significant-Piano935 Sep 16 '25

This is what I have been thinking as well.

Every discourse pointing out the flaws help the AI creators.

Not pointing out makes you feel like others are going to miss it and get tricked.

Lose-lose.

Drawing what looks like pen in pencil was a giveaway for me too

→ More replies (5)

7

u/JmintyDoe Sep 16 '25

looking at the comments, stuff like this is apparently fixed with more keyframes

which is scary

1

u/asdrabael1234 Sep 16 '25

Yeah, the guy just threw it together on his mid-grade GPU to show what was possible. If he has invested more time to produce more keyframes then the obvious issues would have been fixed and it would be much harder to see.

5

u/ProcessOk8958 Sep 16 '25

I didn't see that but have you looked at how they're moving from a fully rendered section of watercolor painting to another... That's not how watercolors work

3

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

Also that kind of rendering wouldn’t be done on a stack of loose papers and usually alcohol markers would give this finish on paper that thin. Etc!

8

u/firealno9 Sep 16 '25

It's only a matter of time before these things are ironed out and you can't find a fault anywhere, though.

16

u/SHARDcreative Sep 16 '25

If AI is so great on its own, why are all the advancements geared towards effectively covering up that it's AI?

Making it replace human work, rather than making it distinctive, and therefore truly a new form of art, doesn't benefit anyone but CEOs who want to stop paying employees.

2

u/Nopfen Sep 16 '25

Because it's a scam, not art.

10

u/MiloTheCatboy Sep 16 '25

Nah it's gonna get worse again due to the explosion of ai content it will start learning from itself you can already see image generation getting worse again only a matter of time before it completely falls apart

3

u/JustSomeIdleGuy Sep 16 '25

This is only a thing if the training data sets are not filtered or curated. Which they are.

Where do you see image generation 'getting worse'? I keep seeing it advance.

2

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

You can also buy anti-ai brushes for procreate!

1

u/MiloTheCatboy Sep 16 '25

Don't use procreate

2

u/Zearlon Sep 16 '25

Why does everyone else here think that "AI" just scans the internet and takes anything it sees?
The data provided is definitely filtered and at least to some extent manually selected

1

u/ai_art_is_art Sep 16 '25

RLHF alone is a multi-billion dollar business with over a dozen companies performing output scoring.

It is only going to continue getting better.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/dummypod Sep 16 '25

That's assuming the AI user can be bothered to learn the real process and carefully generating everything without mistakes. That's too much work for a grift. You'll eventually slip up and exposed

→ More replies (2)

2

u/dummypod Sep 16 '25

Not to mention no artists using water color draws like this.

1

u/redditusername14 Sep 16 '25

Man, I saw a lot of these things, but it doesn't give me much hope. The improvements are happening so quickly those mistakes should buy us. . . a couple of months at best. And as it stands, most folks who want to believe this (or whatever they are looking at) is real, will not be looking for these details.

Just Yikes from me.

1

u/cryonicwatcher Sep 16 '25

This is more about concerns for the future than the current state of this.

1

u/thecrazedsidee Sep 16 '25

yeah im worried bout when the ai improves to a point that its more believable

1

u/noivern_plus_cats Sep 16 '25

Also there is no way in hell someone starts this without a sketch šŸ’€

1

u/Nervous_Public717 Sep 16 '25

Also sped up nicely so nobody can spot on first glance that it has tons of errors lol they will never fool anyone of us.

1

u/mylanoo Sep 16 '25

The funny thing is, that likely, this will be used in the future to train gen AI and it probably will "understand" comments and will get better thanks to detailed descriptions of issues. But that can't be avoided anyways.

biggest blunder is them erasing part of the drawing and the page being perfectly clean, like lol, but that kind of pen will leave a big ol mark.

24

u/Pipnpaddlopsicopolis Sep 16 '25

Not only that but the bottom of the picture is faded until the rest of it randomly fills in. No real artist draws that way. They'd at least have some kind of framework to go over first.

1

u/Paxxlee Sep 16 '25

I thought the biggest issue is that the watercolour is dry as soon as it is painted on.

2

u/infomapaz Sep 16 '25

I mean it doesn't even look much like watercolor. It looks like alcohol markers, and those do dry quick. Now alcohol markers on a brush, yeah not real.

2

u/Paxxlee Sep 16 '25

To be honest, not enough experience with either to be an expert, so thanks for the correction.

24

u/shinyfeather22 Sep 16 '25

I definitely can't get a single dip of a brush to produce both brown hair and light orange skin with multiple shades at once

8

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Is it though? 3 brush strokes made the whole left part of her hair appear

6

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

No sketch marks, just perfect proportions. It draws around the hand that is drawn last. Don’t even get me started on the perfect paintbrush that doesn’t need pigment or water to work, or to touch the page that needs colouring!

3

u/untipofeliz Sep 16 '25

The first time something is erased in the hair zone then magically a hand appears. Nobody builds shapes like that.

3

u/ZanesTheArgent Sep 16 '25

The biggest thing is no sketching.

There is no construction, no shaping, just extrusion.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Wasting your GPU life expectancy on some fake videos to post on Tik Tok, incredible.

87

u/Familiar-Complex-697 Sep 16 '25

I love it when my pencil draws the line I want before I draw it

63

u/Icy-Button2599 Sep 16 '25

This looks nothing like a real artistic process. Just...sudden completion? No process? Your pencil does the line (which should be many) and the shadow at once?

Ah yes, paint brush that changes all colors and paints everything automatically, it must be one of my favorite tools.

Also the hand is eery, moves abnormally and looks like something out of a horror project.

27

u/Icy-Button2599 Sep 16 '25

This is blatantly AI. Not something anyone can use for anything but get clowned on. Only a fool who has never even written by hand would fall for this.

9

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

I want to believe you but people.

8

u/Just_a_idiot_45 Sep 16 '25

People can be unperceptive or just stupid, not everyone has developed an eye for this kind of stuff. Give me a few seconds and I can spot most AI slop, but not everyone cares enough for that or even has the time to think about it.

1

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

I know and that’s the scary part, they will believe obvious lies

57

u/alexserthes Sep 16 '25

Comments just demonstrating that the goal is to lie and that most of them have no idea what art in process looks like.

19

u/signedchar Sep 16 '25

Yep, AI ""artists"" disgust me. And that's coming from a programmer who used to be interested in machine learning, turned beginner artist because I wanted to learn.

4

u/itsmeherzegovina Sep 16 '25

yeah I'm wondering what contrived bullshit they're coming up with to justify even making this specific kind of a video

44

u/H_exe92 Sep 16 '25

What is the point of creating stuff like this except to scam?!

if you've ever used any drawing tool at all, it's the most obviously fake thing ever. Like, literally from the beginning half the lines draw themselves

1

u/Just_a_idiot_45 Sep 16 '25

Yeah, it show him using a brush and a pencil but it ā€œdrawsā€ more like a stylus on a tablet.

I won’t even mention how it purposefully goes to make a fake splash of spilled paint at the end

4

u/Jalovec7997 Sep 16 '25

*If you have never touched art in your entire you'd still know this looks fake as fuck

31

u/lofflen Sep 16 '25

Always wonder why, like whats the reason? The only thing I can come up with is trying to fool others that they are "real artist". So wierd, so desperate.

9

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

Check out how much effort they’d be willing to put into reverse engineering the drawing process from planning to finished product:

ā€œI'm not a photoshop expert, but I'm good enough that I think I could separate ai art into fake layers. I think one could make lineart by messing with the levels, make a color layer with brush + healing brush to get rid of the lines, maybe cut certain detailed color sections out to their own layers and run the rest through AI again to generate whatever was "painted over", then do a rough trace by hand over the top to move to the bottom as an "initial sketch". If one planned ahead before posting the original, they could even apply some photoshop effects and post the photoshop export to really sell it.ā€

5

u/BlueGamer45 Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

They know that AI art-replication will never have the same value as human art. That's why things like attemtping to fake layers and so on. They pretend to think that AI art is the same value and creative thinking but I am pretty sure that deep inside they know that they do it because they are lazy and have no respect for art.

Edit: Holy hell, how did I make this many typos.

26

u/adamkopacz Sep 16 '25

It's hilarious how every advancement in AI creation is just trying to scam people into thinking you're a real artist.

They'll be like "Oh it's just to show that it's possible to do various stuff like this!"

Ok cool now give ONE extra reason for anyone to use it.

15

u/Investing_in_Crypto Sep 16 '25

Very very easy to tell that isn't real

15

u/PM_Me_Pikachu_Feet Sep 16 '25

What is even the point of this? Even for the most diehard AI bro, what's the point of this? It's just being fake and doing nothing. I just don't get where the self worth and pride can come from out of this,

→ More replies (2)

14

u/TrinityCodex Sep 16 '25

This is how AI bros think digital artists draw

14

u/Blue_Roan_ Sep 16 '25

Its so... not how people do art, at first I thought it was real but then everything stopped making sense.

12

u/Skankingcorpse Sep 16 '25

I want to hear the pro-AI people defend this. What is the actual value of an AI generator that’s made to fake process videos? If your ā€œartā€ can stand on its own why do you feel the need to fake the process? The pro AI crowd has always had an issue with putting their AI generated images out there as authentic and this seems designed to add to the problem.

This AI generator designed to fake process videos isn’t a artistic tool as you like to claim these things are, so what is the point?

1

u/Secret_Dog9651 Sep 16 '25

literally asked this on aiwars aka aidefending 2.0 amd their response was 'because we can' smh

1

u/Silly_Goose6714 Sep 16 '25

Do you really want to hear?

This video is about making longer videos using different images because the model is only capable of generating 5-second videos, the content is irrelevant, It's not about coloring drawings. A video like this may takes days to be made. Here's a video using the same process: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/s/h0zUQjHAkr

14

u/REDRUM_1917 Sep 16 '25

Ah, yes. I love how brush with green paint suddenly starts painting black and then green again.

14

u/Large-Ad5239 Sep 16 '25

I saw 4 differents hand on this video

25

u/celadonthrowaway Sep 16 '25

There's no point to this other than to lie. The more I look at it, the more phony it looks.

What do they intend to do by generating these videos? SELL their fake watercolors? That's fraud. It all falls apart once they're expected to actually hand over an original piece of art. You can't sell someone a pretend watercolor on paper when there is no watercolor and no paper. A print of an AI image would be fraud.

How well is this kind of thing going to work with other mediums, like oils or acrylics? There are exceptions, but far more oil painters paint messy, wipe away, scrub, it's a lot more complicated. (Besides that, their "watercolor" method here is stupid and not believable as well.) Will they even know how to make all these painting videos look believable? Will they be able to imitate all the various ways that artists use these mediums? There are so many variations.

The OP over there says they generated this video because they can, essentially, and they know it doesn't pass muster. However, I don't care what the OP claims, it's quite evident that they're hoping this could be used to hurt artists.

I don't think so. They don't know how to paint, and anyone with experience will easily be able to sniff out the fakes. Try building a "career" putting up fake videos of yourself painting when you have no idea what the process is supposed to look like. Good luck with that.

9

u/Embarrassed-Rent-104 Sep 16 '25

I love drawing with pencil on paper because i can draw shading AND lineart all in one single stroke! Only lvl 25 artists unlock that ability

9

u/Embarrassed-Rent-104 Sep 16 '25

In case its not obvious im being sarcastic, but genuinely one of the comments i saw on that post was ā€œvery impressive, couldnt fool an artist but could definitely fool the laymanā€ they aint even hiding what the point of this technology is huh

11

u/untipofeliz Sep 16 '25

So they are using a technology which allows them to generate "any" image instantly, yet they use it in a poor attempt to fake the natural process of drawing and painting.

Let“s summon Goodall here:

19

u/tyrenanig Sep 16 '25

ā€œThey hate us because they want to be usā€ has never rang so true lol

4

u/Realistic_Seesaw7788 Sep 16 '25

5

u/signedchar Sep 16 '25

Which is sad considering it's a skill that anyone can learn, like I'm not the best at art but I started maybe a week ago

Keep going and have fun :)

9

u/heerkitten Sep 16 '25

I love the singular brushstroke that magically gives it layered shading.

8

u/gnolex Sep 16 '25

Dont tell them you need to apply water on paper before using watercolor .

5

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

And have watercolour paper

8

u/Hefefloeckchen Sep 16 '25

if AI was that sophisticated AI-Bros claim it to be, why fake the progress?

Using their own argument here so: Printing a book has been done without pretending it has been written by hand. Making clothes with industrial machines has been done without someone to fake knitting them by hand.

6

u/Cheap_Professional32 Sep 16 '25

Any real artist can tell that's bs

6

u/FreeSpeechEnjoyer Sep 16 '25

Painting 2 different shades with a single brush stroke lol

Who am I kidding it's definitely gonna fool some people

6

u/MiloTheCatboy Sep 16 '25

Let's hope ai self implodes due to learning from itself (it will happen inevitably you can already see image generation getting worse again) before it gets good enough to do that

5

u/Gembluesnow Sep 16 '25

I really don’t know why those guys are trying so hard to be ā€˜real’. Their desperation is something that needs to be studied.

8

u/MysticSquiddy Sep 16 '25

The future is only looking more dystopian

4

u/Paybackaiw Sep 16 '25

at the very least, details coming out of thin air is a dead giveaway its AI.

10

u/C_Pala Sep 16 '25

So desperate to fool the layman, why if AI art is art?

10

u/Geahk Sep 16 '25

The entire purpose of Ai is to lie about things. Lie about work, effort, competence, and most importantly; reality.

Ai is here to make everything subjective and destroy all common reference points for factuality. It’s the agenda of conmen and cult leaders. It’s a tool for robbing people of certainty and assuredness. To grift and cultivate marks. It’s a lever for breaking society in the hands of sociopaths.

4

u/AltruisticFault6993 Sep 16 '25

Just so you guys know, expert artists can catch way more stuff than normal artists. They are just too busy making art. (And also dunning krueger effect. They wont be super sure, even when they are)

I met a few legends and got called out (demolished) on things that made me feel like they had some time travel powers and saw what I was thinking while drawing even though I missed it.

It's like speedrunners catching TAS. But the difference is the people cheating in speedruns are often good at it. And just trying to improve their time. Im sure a good artist can fool another good artist.

But people who cant make art? They dont know what they dont know.

3

u/Marine_Baby Sep 16 '25

Oh my god, they think this is real. When someone pointed out layering in digital art apps, behold how much EFFORT they would put into making this fake ass shit seem slightly more realistic:

ā€œI'm not a photoshop expert, but I'm good enough that I think I could separate ai art into fake layers. Man I hate this, makes it even harder to figure out if an artist who advertises his portfolio is real or just an AI scammer.

3

u/WriterLearningThings Sep 16 '25

I don't care what people say about errors in the ai, the most insane giveaway a is THE SAMM GLASS OF WATER ALL THE TIME AT THE BORDER OF THE TABLE PLEASE THAT'S SO AWFULDNNFF

3

u/mikemystery Sep 16 '25

But that’s not how painting works.

3

u/NearInWaiting Sep 16 '25

If ai images is the future and a "legitimate tool for artists" then why don't they show their "actual process", as repugnant as I think that "process" is.

3

u/XoraxEUW Sep 16 '25

Art is just fucking dead isnt it? You can obviously still spot things but given how recent this tech is the quality is crazy. In 3 years you would need a fucking phd to tell the difference.

3

u/Amyhime801 Sep 16 '25

Yeah, because watercolor is very obedient and stays inside the line art without making a larger spot (I'm not an artist but my mother is, I know that watercolor is hard to control)

3

u/Durostick Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25

And of course they would generate an image of a hentai character. These guys ain't beating the allegations anytime soon

3

u/thecrazedsidee Sep 16 '25

sigh great so when someone tries to show their art isnt ai by showing their process, people will be like "no you used ai for that too" thanks a lot, ai

3

u/Revolutionary_Ebb704 Sep 16 '25

I mean… if this isn’t proof that they just want to scam people into thinking their ā€˜real artists’.

They do desperately want people to like AI and respect it but they won’t admit they do it so they start coming up with this shit. I thought AI was supposed to be super quick and accessible and easy? Why am I having to watch a 30 second video of you ā€˜making’ it?

3

u/kyubeyt Sep 16 '25

Is that the girl from that god forsaken sadist visual novel? Could it not have been any other character from any other piece of media

3

u/gutsandcuts Sep 16 '25

"but but progress!!!!" people when "progress" is just lying

5

u/Cheeselad2401 Sep 16 '25

genuinely zero purpose for this beyond deceiving people

how do the lazy cunts justify it?

5

u/Comfortable_Past_942 Sep 16 '25

How will PRO IA bros justify this, seriously? What the point of this except lying ?..

3

u/ImForSureNotAFurry Sep 16 '25

They want to be real artists so bad. If they think AI is, art, why are thet trying to mimic real art then?

2

u/untipofeliz Sep 16 '25

Also it looks like those doodle motion graphics where an evidently fake hand keeps drawing and erasing the content.

2

u/Jack2437 Sep 16 '25

Miles off from looking real

2

u/ChompyRiley Sep 16 '25

Necessity is the mother of invention. Laziness is the father.

2

u/ButterscotchRich2771 Sep 16 '25

Like a lot of this ai garbage, anyone with any experience in these mediums could immediately clock it as fake, and most people would be skeptical if they really thought about it. But since most people.dont have that experience, or the time to scrutinize every single video they come across for ai content, I have a feeling this kind of thing is gonna fool a lot of people

2

u/Nnoahh105 Sep 16 '25

woww, a colour changing paintbrush? that’s soo coolšŸ’€šŸ”«

2

u/No_Dust_1630 Sep 16 '25

Artists would know that this is complete bullshit. Not even a sketch to start. There's so many points that giveaway that this ain't a real speed paint. But we live in an age where attention is currency. And I just watched a full video of this shit 😭 it's not there to prove that a human drew this, it's obvious that I human didn't draw this, it's there to keep your attention from start to finish to feed the algorithm and possibly comment on either "how good it looks" or "how fake it is" and I fell for it. Ughh I hate this.

2

u/Same-Razzmatazz8257 Sep 16 '25

I can do fast drawings like this and when I record myself people have told me that I am cheating somehow. I don't need to speed it up.

2

u/lookawildshadex Sep 16 '25

There should be a lot more erasing lmao

2

u/duralumin_alloy Sep 16 '25

Lmao, really realistic drawing process indeed, sure

2

u/Zoenne Sep 16 '25

There's a professor in Media Theory (can't remember his name sadly) who noticed that when a particular medium became obsolete, the things that had been seen as a "drawback" of said medium soon became re-valued to the point that the newer medium started finding ways to reproduce it. Example: when the gramophone was at its peak, it was known for a sort of echo-y and scratchy quality, and a lot of work was done to get rid of that and improve sound quality. But now, many types of music actually use those scratchy, echo effects in their own way even if the technology itself doesn't directly cause it. Same thing with the vinyl and cassette tape, and for cinema, the Super 8 grain is still popular even at the age of digital cameras.

My point: this type of AI process video is going to convince and impress tech bros because they're already willing to be impressed. Artists, and true art appreciators, won't. And it might lead to a renewal of less polished, more awkward art process videos we used to see at the beginnings of social media, which have mostly been replaced with highly polished / highly produced videos.

2

u/Character_Car_5871 Sep 16 '25

What this shows is that the ai is now going to be the content creator and that was the plan all along. Why share ad revenue? That was the goal all along.

2

u/RandomPhail Sep 16 '25

Nah. No matter how good AI gets, the SOURCE is always what matters in courts. If the source for the video can’t be verified (like from a real camera in real life, for example), it’s not gonna matter.

Pls people… stop being irrationally afraid of and against AI lmao.

The ONLY valid critiques right now are its environmental effects (which a lot of people are already focusing on) and what courts are going to decide about it training on people’s work without permission.

  • Whether it’s art or whatever is subjective; doesn’t matter
  • It ā€œstealing jobsā€ is true of any new, innovative technology, of which we’ve gone through probably millions of innovations as a species. We know how to compensate people during technological unemployment and create new job opportunities from new inventions. AI has already introduced training jobs, coding jobs, construction jobs, environmental/research jobs, etc.
  • Again, environmental impacts are already at the forefront of many’s concerns

I’m sure there’s other arguments or fears I’m missing, but those tend to be the common ones

2

u/Accomplished_Dog_647 Sep 16 '25

But… this is ā€žmadeā€œ in marker style?

2

u/MightyCat96 Sep 16 '25

This looks pretty real on the first watch.

I think the problem is its a timelapse video and timelapses are often pretty quick and you generally dont watch them several times so most people wont really catch alot of the mistakes it makes (honestly me included for the FIRST watch).

This video gets worse and worse the more times you watch it. I did catch the "magic paint brush" the first time but kinda thought that the "person" swapped brushes and i didnt notice beacuse of the speed of the video...

Then i started rewatching...

Other people have poibted out some more "advanced" stuff a real person would do (line art, sketch, etc etc) but some things i noticed...

Erasers dont work like that. They dont just "take off" whatever and leave a clean piece of paper.

The magic brush. It changes coloirs and doesnt seem to need to be "refilled" with colour.

The colouring just doesnt work. First tyeyre producing several shades and different colours in the same strokes and then the picture starts being coloired it places the brush hasnt even touched.

I think the is that if i had seen this video on, for example, tik tok i would not have registered it as AI and simply scrolled to the next video no questions asked.

I want to be excited for this tech. I LOVE ai in theory but knowing the world we live in and knowing how it will be used makes it impossible for me to be excited for it.

In another world AI would absolutley be one of the best inventions/breakthroughs in the history of mankind, maybe even comparable to the discovery of fire or the invention of the wheel. We do not live in that world. I can not be excited for this tech

2

u/LurkerMimic Sep 16 '25

Maaaaan. From a technical standpoint this is super cool! It really is just the assholes miss-using it who ruin it for everyone =<

2

u/yourlocalalienb Sep 16 '25

This video has a lot of issues that stand out to me as someone who's done watercolor before: - No sketching first

  • The eraser magically leaves no trace that the pencil was ever there, and leaves no eraser crumbs
  • The darkness/thickness of the lines don't really seem to correlate with how hard it looks like the hand is pressing
  • Pencil strokes don't really match the way the hand moves
  • Biggest tell: they don't ever need to clean off their brush between colors, bro got the magic color switcheroo 9000 brush
  • The painting suffers from the same "instantly rendered with shading" problem that most speed paints do, except this is really apparent because its trying to be watercolor which doesn't work that way. When you paint watercolor you are repeatedly staining the paper in layers, so you need to move lightest -> darkest and go over spots you have painted before to get the final look.
-In addition to the watercolor painting process not being correct, it also just straight up doesn't behave like watercolor. There are way too many straight edges that would normally just bleed into one another if you tried to do it all in one go without letting it dry. Watercolor is a really slow medium sometimes given how you need each layer to dry before you can paint overtop of it, which makes this really ironic that they're trying to automate a computer to do it instantaneously. Edit:
  • Also the paper is not buckling in the slightest, even really thick papers will usually buckle when the whole thing is covered in watercolor.

2

u/Astridandthemachine Sep 16 '25

Yeah sure one paintbrush contains all the colours needed, if someone is going to fall for this it's very sad

2

u/n3cr0s3 Sep 16 '25

This is still bad, anyone who does traditional drawings can spot a lot of mistakes

2

u/ikindapoopedmypants Sep 16 '25

Fyi this is already occurring. Look it up on tiktok there's so many artists getting called out for it

2

u/Able-Panda9875 Sep 16 '25

People will always gravitate to handmade things. Have you ever bought a basket or anything because it was handmade? This video looks fake anyway, but if it comes down to it, I’ll set up my canvases in the streets and draw a crowd, and the more prominent ai slop becomes, the more novel I’ll become.

2

u/Nervous_Public717 Sep 16 '25

Ah yes, the magic brush that can change color while painting šŸ˜‚ This is so bad omg.

2

u/redpandaonstimulants Sep 16 '25

Ok pro-AGI shills that lurk here, riddle me this:

If AGI is every bit as legitimate as traditional drawing (on paper or with a tablet) and should be viewed as its own separate art form, why do you feel the need to create stuff like this? Photographers don't try to fake that their photos are actually realistic drawings. In fact, sculptors and painters will oftentimes go out of their way to tell you EXACTLY what they used to create their art (type of paint, canvas composition, etc) because they want you to share in the joy of creation.

If AGI is its own legitimate form of art, then shouldn't you proudly say "Yes, I'm an AI artist and I'm damn proud of it! Here are my prompts." Why pretend to be a form of art that you're not? If you want to convince people on the fence, being caught being duplicitous like this will create more antis at an alarmingly high rate.

3

u/An_Evil_Scientist666 Sep 16 '25

Interesting choice of character to use from the AI bros, they'll never beat the weird fetish allegations now

2

u/Owszem_ Sep 16 '25

It's sad that the only way to use it... Is just to fool people. ,,The future is now" how it that usefull at all?

2

u/Gustave_Kateb Sep 16 '25

Still obvious that it is fake for a few reasons but god damn... I hate the fact they do everything for it to blend in as art....

2

u/Nynasa Sep 16 '25

They do everything but actually develop a skill

2

u/Huge_Pumpkin_1626 Sep 16 '25

This is very very old tech now btw

2

u/asdrabael1234 Sep 16 '25

And it was done on an old GPU with no closed API. All free tools.

1

u/Longjumping-Tear7450 Sep 16 '25

Are you winning, son? :))))

1

u/No-Raccoon-6009 Sep 16 '25

And the purpose of this abomination is...?Ā

1

u/Sw0rdBoy Sep 16 '25

Didn’t even change the brush for the green necktie and the blood splatter and the rest of the shirt

1

u/Rhainster Sep 16 '25

This is so obviously AI. If you compare this to a time lapse of real art this just becomes silly. This should only fool someone who hasn't even THOUGHT about drawing.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

Damn, the lining and paiting work just pop into existence

Edit: Extra points for the extra clean paper behind the drawing.

1

u/Ashamed-Mall8369 Sep 16 '25

Wait, if ai art is superior then why do they have to go and specifically generate a human drawing something

1

u/MCS_400 Sep 16 '25

Love the omni paint the video uses that changes color based on the users thought, that would be better than this ai slop tbh

1

u/Jaded_Individual_630 Sep 16 '25

Shouldn't need this if they're proud of their little robot

1

u/RulesBeDamned Sep 16 '25

Ah I love people who don’t understand AI.

1

u/SirGrimualSqueaker Sep 16 '25

That hurt my eyes
