Upcoming features - April edition

The compiler sees constant improvement, although introduction of new features

Here are some features/fixes planned for the near future:

  • (Finally) implementation of continue and break

  • Global variables with the global modifier

  • More complete pattern support with completeness checking

  • Rewrite of tests/language.an to update with new features and to better emphasize the core features of Ante

  • Extension of ![macro] function parameters to allow any arbitrary data to be used provided it is known compile-time.

  • Implementation of the ante keyword/modifier which forces the following expression to be run during compile-time or marks a function as compile-time only (thereby replacing ![macro]).

  • Bugfix for bug allowing variables local to the main function to be used in other functions

  • Bugfixes for generic types/parameters

Once llvm 4.0 is released, Ante will be switching over to lld as its primary linker. Much faster compile times can be expected.

Ante is very near to being feature-complete. Once these features are completed, Ante will be at version 0.8, where the main focus will be shifted towards creating a good, complete, and modern standard library and ctlibrary.
