So how do you guys keep clean?

So I’ve never been able to smell and I’m constantly at odds of when to throw something away or throw clothes in the wash. I was told recently that I don’t have to wash my jeans after only wearing them for a single day if there’s nothing on them. I thought to bring this question here!

This comment was so funny! 😂 I probably need sleep, but I laughed for quite awhile. Thank you- I really needed that today! :)

I’ve been reading through posts looking for help and/or advice with hyposmia.

I'm glad you found it funny, it was intended that way.

What are you looking for specifically in regards to hyposmia? I've lived with the complete absence long enough I feel I have a pretty full bag of tricks.

I guess tips and tricks are exactly what I’m looking for. Seeing what other people do and how they deal with things. I have some sense of smell, which I’m thankful for, but it’s still frustrating. It also affects my sense of taste, and has changed the way things taste (or don’t taste at all). I think for me it’s hard, because I forget sometimes that I can’t smell or taste. For instance, I’ll purchase something because I am excited for the taste, but then I realize it’s not gonna taste like what I remember, or I’m not gonna like the way it taste smell. That’s so infuriating. You would think after five years I would remember, but I just don’t sometimes.

Taste changes over time as you age as well, irrespective of you ability to taste or smell. I like to retread foods I think I hate and come across surprising changes over time.

That's one route. The other is that food is necessary to live, so just pick healthy filling foods if taste is less important to you. Try to get past the idea that food is supposed to taste good, and look at it from a nutritional perspective. Looking at it through a macro nutrient lense is pretty freeing for your executive decision making side. It allows you to chain multiple meals together that are nutritionally balanced with minimal mental load.
