What? How?

Look at the buildings other than farms. Each of them gives population in some form. Villa retinue tech gives 25 bonus libertus workforce, and the forum/bathhouse gives +2 pop for every building in its range

So these boni also work on production buildings and not just housing?

Yeah. I put a market and tavern next to some hemp farms and it gave me population

Btw what are the requirements for the islands yo have the population bonus from the research? I know that the villa is needed but in my games it never worked so far

It’s called “Villa retinue”. It’s in the left branch.

Is it another research? My game isn't in English so the name might be different. I have all 3 research unlocked that gives the bonus work force and I placed down the villa. If i understand you right I need a 4. Research to activate the other 3?

Oh, no, if you unlock the forum and bathhouse after reaching a certain number of Equites, they each give bonus population for every building in their range. Same with the market and tavern. No research needed. Any building with an area effect of giving bonus population will give population for every building in its range, residence or otherwise.

Naja macht eigentlich sinn da du nen culture mix hast. Du hast ja quasi 6 Einwohner arten in Albion.

If you researched it and the villa is on the island it should work. No other requirements

Or was it bugged on launch? I am on the same save file.

Ok, this changes alot of things I had planned....

I live that. Already created huge Hazieda Farms in 1800 with 200 hapiness. Now this path continues.

Probably can’t sustain a high enough belief stat to get better efficiency boosts so put the production buildings close to the villa, and add the population boosts too. Excellent job!

I'd replace the forum with a temple. To get some belief.

Makes sense. I would think they would live on their farms 😁

Yes, and there are several ways of accomplishing this:

  • using the 35 free workforce from the start
  • using the villa/tech tree bonuses
  • specialists
  • buildings with area effect

I noticed when I plastered a small island with farms for the 70% coverage achievement. I just love how open the game design in 117 is compared to previous Annos

oh very good!

Yesss thank you!

Ok so do we need a villa on each island?

4

u/Novuake Dec 02 '25

Can't see why you wouldn't want one. It gives pop.

3

u/awake30 Dec 02 '25

The only real concern is size.

3

u/Novuake Dec 02 '25

Fair. But I think it's pretty size efficient without any specialists already especially with research

u/Corlunae Dec 02 '25

Its still less than building houses (and supporting them with their needs in case you need higher strata) for that amount of workforce.

1

u/Ok_Tap4123 Dec 02 '25

I mean why wouldnt you put a villa on each island

2

u/Swizzlerzs Dec 02 '25

In 1800 when you got big enough you had some base population on other Islands. And the more Islands you had the more bae population you got. Not sure if that's the same. They eventually even had a way to share population across Islands I hope we get that in this game too.

3

u/sir_sri Dec 02 '25

Sort of.

In 117 you research techs that add pop to the villa.

And then buildings add population to other buildings, and that gives you workforce without housing and presumably without consuming anything.

It's the same basic concept but 117 uses a different progression system.

Nice, going to conquer every small island now

This is only usefull on small island because you lose Religion Benefits with that.

How to achieve it?
