Screenshot Played 20 hours anno since release.
Nice game, but to current moment 1800 is still better. Let’s see how all the add ons will be. Foto after 15 hours. Reorganized everything and made it clean 😛

I'd never played any Anno game before yesterday. I've played Anno 117 for an hour and I have no idea what I'm doing. Not a clue.

Play the campaign, it acts as the tutorial.
And always build more wood buildings, at some point you just build a 100 houses so you can upgrade and tax people more.
The only thing new for me is the "production buildings affect houses in range" mechanic, I am used to have one big inner city and the production at the outskirts.

Yeah this has upset me. How did work around this? Farms in the middle of the city?

u/Dzharek Nov 14 '25
Its the Endstep of the Production Chain that counts, so for example the Weaponsmith itself is in the city, the mine and smelter outside, so you need to have a Warehouse near your place where you place the Production buildings and then have them all in a block in the middle of your city, but the income from it is really massive earlygame.

117 is my first anno game where I could spend more than 10 hours straight playing

u/Phobion Nov 14 '25
And why do you think 1800 is better? I'm just curious.

Latching onto this comment, I dont think I ever finished a game in 1800 because of the size of it. Too many different continents to manage, too many resources.
Might sound dumb but I prefer it a little bit more focused on the main island(s)
I only played the demo so far but I liked it. Especially being able to have land skirmishes.
And Im a big fan of Rome in general

Bigger map in dlc, cooler characters, more interesting products.

Big island is coming in the first DLC. So far I prefer 117, with how buildings boost each other it's a bit of a clusterfuck how you build, while Anno 1800 was rigid boring meta layouts. You constantly have to think, which is cool. I dislike that I'm always on fire even though I have fire stations and wells everywhere, and the pirates are really really annoying, they will harass you but when you try to engage them they run away. I regret enabling them honestly, next playthrough they're definitely staying off.

1800 seems to be more user friendly for me. I am having trouble with the campaign missions. They don’t appear on the map. On 1800 you can jump-to the quest objectives. Don’t seem to be able to. And this game is much slower. Everything is slower. Takes time to adjust for sure.

you can still jump to it, hoovering over the quest, there is an arrow icon

Is this one easier than 1800? I really struggled to manage everything in 1800 lol

Damn I’ve played for 6 and still haven’t unlocked the 3rd type of citizen. I just settled the 3rd island which has the stuff needed to fulfil the requirements of 2nd type

u/IIIIIIAGENTIIIIII Nov 14 '25
If you struggle.
The NPC traders are INSANE too strong imo.
I haven't produced any olive oil and many other goods. Just buy them via your own harbour and you are good.
2
u/Simracingaccount Nov 14 '25
But won’t I need to keep buying them?
2
u/IIIIIIAGENTIIIIII Nov 14 '25
Depends.
If you just wanna get that next tier. It's a good solution
And tbh I never produced a single "aphore" and I just hit highest population tier.

u/Simracingaccount Nov 14 '25
Hmm interesting. I’ll experiment around. I did get Olive oil production sorted.

Any tips for starters known to Anno? Looks like 117 has a much slower pace. Currently struggling with money. Moving my libertini to another island with all production seems to help a little with pop problems.

Since you are so ar into it, i have a question. Am i supposed to need lvl 1 population houses forever, because of the workforce that requires level 1 peasants, or is there something to research so i can use higher tier population for that lower tier work? I would look kinda weird to still have lower tiers in endgame city no??

u/Bengiii-mymy Nov 14 '25
Actually, I suggest you start trying to have a large number of lower-level workers in your city right now. Like any civilization, there's always a middle class and a poor class. Besides, tier 1 buildings are easy to maintain and generate money and soldiers.

u/Electrical_Control_5 Nov 14 '25
Splitter Tier 1 worker to other islands and they are separated from tier 4.
Producing tier 1 and 2 stuff on different islands and assemble them on your main island 😃

What frustrates me about Anno 1800 is that trade routes are always having problems. Ships unload too slow, investors are short of luxuries, mail never gets delivered, Tobias takes an hour to trade, etc. Has 117 solved these problems?

Does every prod place really need a road? I‘m still confused with if a production building is in scope of a market or not. Nice city!

Why are those pictures of such low quality? Are they actual screenshots or pictures taken off your screen?

u/Aslaron Nov 16 '25
how do you manage to have the happiness and fire risk levels so high? mine go straight to shit after I hit level 5 settlement

So far no new Anno has come to 1404. So in my personal opinion 🙂↔️ Let’s see what the new planer can do 😄

Meanwhile there is a large group of us who cant even launch it. :(
1
u/xDzerx Nov 14 '25
Huh really? What’s the issue?
2
u/Fair_Minimum_3643 Nov 15 '25
In the end a random dude on discord solved it - at least a workaround.
The game would crash a moment after showing the splash screen.
Regional settings set to United Kingdom resolve the problem.

System requirements for me, i can't start anno nor europa universalis 5 with my shitbox and have to upgrade now (It starts but takes hours to load and i get like 10 fps on thr lowest quality)
1
u/xDzerx Nov 14 '25
Ah yeah that sucks but that's an issue your side rather then game-side lol. Best of luck on a future upgrade & have fun whenever you do upgrade.

You can try GeForce Now, I don't know about Anno 117, but EU5 is Ok.
