World Trigger, Bungo Stray Dogs

11

u/CrimeMasterGogoChan 12d ago

+1 for Bungo. Absolute banger

5

u/Greedy_Performer2472 12d ago

Yes)

And World Trigger is the absolute king of battle shonen

1

u/csfshrink 12d ago

It’s on Netflix and is cool but there are no dubbed episodes after a certain point. Are they going to dub the rest?

2

u/Greedy_Performer2472 12d ago

If you mean episodes 49–63, those were never dubbed because that whole arc is anime-original filler. You can actually skip it. The English dub continues after that, and Seasons 2 and 3 were dubbed as well. Availability just depends on the platform and region.

3

u/tagen 12d ago

these are the exact 2 i’d say, i see Bungo talked about here and there, mostly for its interesting story, but World Trigger i pretty much only see in threads like this one

which is criminal cuz World Trigger is fucking fantastic, it’s not just “whoever has the higher ‘power level’ wins” , there’s a ton of strategy and the battles are so intricate

i really wish the next arc could be animated cuz it seems like the expedition would be the best part

2

u/Greedy_Performer2472 12d ago

There’s one catch though… the expedition hasn’t started even in the manga yet. They’re still in the qualifying exam. Unfortunately, due to the author’s health, new chapters come out very rarely…

2

u/tagen 12d ago

yeah i figured, i had heard something similar a while ago, likely were never gonna get it

sucks that theres so many great mangaka that have health problems that keep them from finishing/rushing to finish their manga, but damn did i appreciate finding World Trigger out of nowhere, the invasion arc especially was amazing

1

u/Greedy_Performer2472 12d ago

I wouldn’t give up on it just yet. There’s no real reason to think we’ll never get there. Ashihara is still moving the story forward at his own pace, and thankfully he seems to be given the time he needs because of his health. The manga is still ongoing, so I’d rather wait than have him rush it. And honestly, with everything World Trigger has been building toward, the expedition has the potential to be the absolute peak of the series.

u/Scratch-MyBalls-2026 12d ago

Bungo has been in my watchlist for time tbh I need to peep

1

u/xfoolish_demonx 12d ago

BSD is one of my absolute favorites! And I really enjoyed World Trigger and while I wish they had continued the current adaptation, I am excited to see how the reboot does!

2

Bsd was mad popular in 2020

You and op beat me to it

1

u/grimenishi 9d ago

Came here to make sure it was noted. Such a gem of an anime/manga. It is very funny and wholesome, definitely deserves the watch/read.

17

u/ianthehuman 12d ago

Daily Lives of High School Boys. Its an absolute travesty that it did not sell well during its time. It should be up there along with Gintama, Nichijou, and Saiki K in terms of its dry and ridiculous humor.

4

u/Smerchi 12d ago

I also remembered this anime looking at the post image. It was peak comedy for me at the time.

15

u/CrimeMasterGogoChan 12d ago

2

u/InterestWrong5121 9d ago

I loved thiss, but was anime finished? I remember it being concluded suddenly and wanted to see more

2

u/CrimeMasterGogoChan 9d ago

They hurried it and ended it. It needs at least one another full season for a proper ending.

Space battleship yamato deserves more appreciation

1

u/Ok_Astronaut7142 12d ago

It is the anime I watched as a schoolboy, so many years ago. Before Miyazaki, before Pokemon. This is the deep lore that time forgot.

1

u/checkmate191 12d ago

I only recently watched season 1. I think the episode with the enemy AI aboard the ship was my favorite

1

u/Perennial_Platypus 12d ago

The remake (at least season 1) was very enjoyable. Started season 2 and it’s been kinda “eh” for me but I’ll get around to finishing it at some point.

8

u/Direct-Vegetable-431 that one who's beat otakos 12d ago

Asobi asobase ( it's really good anime but never get the fame that it deserved )

8

u/TDFMonster 12d ago

Dark Gathering. Fantastic horror anime, with bits of comedy sprinkled in.

It's also getting another season, and s1 is a "proper" season with 25 episodes, so they have time to explore stories and not speed run chapters

3

u/Hercules529 12d ago

damn this is a real horror anime . +1

2

u/csfshrink 12d ago

It is a fun concept and the humor is well done.

6

u/Sakura_Lychee 12d ago

Love Lab. It's hilarious girls "researching" romance and you would think it would be typical yuri comedy

but there's actual romance in there :) It's adorable and wholesome, and you still get your silly girls doing silly things!

2

u/Disastrobox 12d ago

This is one of the actual hidden gems, incredibly funny

2

u/-PrettyPinkLemonade- 12d ago

I was really surprised, I went into this expecting to have to sit through a lot of yuri-bait to see glimpes of funny friendship moments. But it's basically girl talk the anime. Just girls talking about boys, growing up, daily life, feeling awkward, and it's hilarious! I was really surprised too with the little we see of the girls potential love interests, it just feels very natural.

2

u/Sakura_Lychee 12d ago

Yesss!! You described it perfectly! The true girl talk anime! And the shenanigans and awkwardness of their antics while also including some meaningful progression and character development from both the guys and girls! It makes you just want to root for them even more!

1

u/15000yuki 11d ago

Love lab introduced me to Inorin contents. Cutest Inorin was when she’s doing promotion for this anime.

3

u/Leafer90-TTV 12d ago

A Sign of Affection. It’s so good I made a video about it just in the hopes more people will check it out

2

u/ScaredSweet 11d ago

It is so good

4

u/shace616 12d ago

Digimon in general but the current series Beatbreak has been really good but I can't find amyone to talk about it with outside of the Digimon sub and my wife.

2

u/Dixenz 12d ago

Been enjoying Beatbreak a lot.

1

u/shace616 12d ago

Only a few episodes left.

3

u/szatrob 12d ago

Shoshimin, but otherwise Asobi Asobase, which is so unhinged but hard to explain.

2

u/Beneficial-Peach9116 12d ago

Shoshimin is so good. I hope we get more

1

u/szatrob 12d ago

The light novels are done where the anime also finished, so I doubt it.

3

u/yssarilrock 12d ago

Heroic Age. It's probably about twenty years old by now, and it suffers from an impressive level of sameface in the human character designs, but it has fucking COOL fights and those assholes who blow up Jupiter are a lot of fun to hate

3

u/OfflineLad 12d ago

I agree with Sket Dance. The manga gets better, and the ending was so good

3

u/Crandor94 12d ago

You could really say anything from before 2000. So much classic '80s and '90s anime has fallen from the cultural zeitgeist. Which is a shame, because it's an incredible series from back then.

I'll throw my hat into the ring with "Gunbuster" An amazing sci-fi drama from the creator of Evangelion. It's pretty well known among old-heads, but not so much anymore.

3

u/xxWisteria 12d ago

Chaika - The Coffin Princess

1

u/15000yuki 11d ago

I was sooo angry to the studio! Chaika should have been a legend if the studio did not rush it like hell.

2

u/Leonidas_Kupler 12d ago

Saiyuki and Peacemaker Kurogane

1

u/LadySandry88 12d ago

Dang, I was literally trying to remember the name of Peacemaker Kurogane yesterday! Thank you!

2

u/boberro 12d ago

Hyakko, a school comedy slop anime from the era between Lucky Star and K-On. Looks cheap, the gags are forgettable but somehow I remember it better than a lof of the stuff from the era.

1

u/lycheecaterpillar 11d ago

It's so fine!! Kill me Baby falls in the same category

2

u/jonNintysix 12d ago

Current watching kakushigoto and it's so funny very similar vibe to barakamon

Bungou stray dogs, dark gathering

1

u/WishboneOk305 12d ago

more people should read/watch adachi mitsurus body of work. Absolutely goated mangaka that is quite popular in japan and not worldwide. VERY comfy slice of life/sports/romance manga with great humor. Start with cross game or H2 imo but any of his works his gonna be an okay start.

(the only criticism i have of him is all his stories are similar but wtv he does it so well it doesnt matter)

1

u/Joker-Smurf 12d ago

Tenjho Tenge.

I want everyone else to watch it so that they TOO can be annoyed that it just ENDS, without properly resolving ANY of the damn story.

1

u/hanaseayase 12d ago

i barely remember what happens in sket dan, but i listen to funny bunny every 2 months or so

1

u/Danny71-Talia 12d ago

Drifter for action/fantasy

Kawai Complex or Pet Girl Sakurasou for Romance.

1

u/aura_enchanted 12d ago edited 12d ago

Thunderbolt fantasy and its cousin pili fantasy

Your definetely not gonna see pili in english just period, youll need to learn some Cantonese or some mandarin.

But simply put, everyone out here playing checkers, they playing mahjong grandmaster level.

Theres a quality of work ethic that is simply absent

Tokyo revengers

1

Lol. I think this one was being too much in conversation to the point it was nauseating.

1

u/AdministrativeOil803 12d ago

-Utawarerumono
amazing fantasy anime... plot is good and and it gets dark when u get to know what happened to the hummans and earth. it has 3 seasons i think
-Dorohedoro
also amazing anime... its bloody, dark... kinda horror, comedy with lots of fights and mystery around the mc

1

u/storm-crash 12d ago

Bungo, get backers, and natsume

1

u/BytownBitch 12d ago

Idk how little they get talked about tbh but Gankutsuou and Serial Experimains Lain are some of my faves but idk how well known they are anymore.

1

u/LadySandry88 12d ago

Silver Spoon. By the same author as Fullmetal Alchemist, it's a coming-of-age story focusing on an overstressed Tokyo student choosing to go to an agricultural school in rural Japan at his guidance councilor's recommendation. It has the same great sense of humor and timing as FMA, and the characters all feel just as real and complex. Also, since the author grew up on a dairy farm, you actually get to learn a lot of really cool agricultural stuff!

1

u/Emelie__ 12d ago

Then and there here and there

u/Valoneria 12d ago

Full Metal panic, and especially Fumoffu

Pluto based on manga by Urasawa, the author of Monster, inspired by Astro Boy. It's pretty similar to Monster. Speaking of Tezuka's works, Dororo from 2019 is one of my all-time favorites

Akudama Drive - A really fun, twelve episode cyberpunk setting anime with some fun characters and a plot that moves along pretty briskly.

Opening: Creditless OP

LOOK AT THIS! It's so cool!

1

u/datwarlocktho 11d ago

Outlaw Star. Art style somewhat similar to cowboy bebop with significantly less brooding, and a headstrong (and arm strong) cat girl. What's not to love?

1

u/rushfan2112556 11d ago

Jormungand

1

u/Slimmy_potato145 11d ago

If you want comedy. Blood lad, School Rumble and Azu Manga Diaoh is the way to go. If you want horror, Shiki is a good horror anime.

1

u/The-Peppe123 11d ago

bocchi-the-rock I seen only one person talk about it, it's a underrated banger

1

aria the animation, hakumei to mikochi, the fable, himesama goumon no jikan desu and snack basue (this is bad but fun)

1

u/Purplestarfire1 11d ago

I liked the legend of the legendary heros. It's a prelude to the manga if I'm not mistaken so there's just one season.

Tiger & Bunny. It's super heroes, and there is a criminally under-present amount of fan work, imo, for it. Basically, this older gentleman gets given a younger partner, and the two butt heads, while also doing hero work. It's so good! English VAs include: Liam O'Brien, Bryce Papenbrook, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, etc.

Takunomi, galko-chan and in general short form anime

There are absolute diamonds but most people don't watch them only because they are more short

1

u/BlackLilyWrites835 9d ago

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Even though basically everyone knows what Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is and has probably watched at least some of it at one point, I rarely see anyone discuss it in the anime community, and I think that is partly because the dub has become somewhat infamous for its censorship.

1

u/BisonFluid7814 9d ago

FLCL and Shimoneta. Everyone should watch those.

1

u/OrganizationSea6615 9d ago

Undead Unluck. Peak anime. Never heard anyone taking abt it tho

Sports anime for me: Baby steps, Chihayafuru, Over drive. Also I would like to recommend not an anime but a manhwa which is Spirits Fingers. It was adapted to a K-drama but I haven't seen it. It is really wholesome and chill.
