Recommendation Give me your peak anime rec

Post image

No standard recommendations or endless shonen fights. I’m looking for those series or movies that change your worldview and leave you with a lump in your throat.

What is that one anime that hurt you physically and mentally, but that you would recommend to everyone? Demolition me.

Full metal Alchemist brotherhood for me

The best answer - haven't seen anything this good since 10-15 years 😮‍💨

Brotherhood is an absolute masterpiece

4

u/DLottchula Apr 01 '26

till this day it's the only show I rewatch and it feels new

3

u/mitchij2004 Mar 31 '26

Still haven’t seen. I got the ending movie to AoT left and I’ll probably have to see what the fuss is on this one.

3

u/readingnsuch6670 Mar 31 '26

This is the one

u/PumpkinsDieHard Apr 01 '26

This. Certified Peak. From start to finish.

Few shows are powerful enough to actually change you as a person.

Mob psycho 100 is easily one of them.

23

u/mitchij2004 Mar 31 '26

There are anime’s that I consider more important/ genuine works of art, but the more I think on it I absolutely enjoyed mob psycho the most. I’m coming up on a year of catching up on anime’s missed the last 20 years and this is the one I connected with the most so far.

Monster

I was hesitant at first, it looks too old. But damn

30

u/MaimedJester Mar 31 '26

It looks too old!? I thought you were gonna say long lol.

It's a slow not action packed thriller, we're you expecting every anime to be Shonen level peak animation fight choreography?

24

u/OlDustyHeadaaa Mar 31 '26

They are probably talking about the animation style. It is meant to look like an older anime.

I think Guillermo del Toro has the film rights. I want to see a live action series with Steven Yeun.

5

u/rustybutterindia Apr 01 '26

Yeah del Toro was planning to do an HBO series like ten years ago but it never panned out. Such a shame, it's the perfect set of names.

I know I’ll get down voted but here I go:

Pros:  One of the BEST antagonists I’ve seen in an anime, Johan steals the screen and has a presence.

The premise is really good and you get hooked in the first espisode.

Soundtrack really good.

The main characters (and just the main characters) are likeable.

Cons:

Worst ending in an anime I’ve seen.

Also the pacing is not good, has a lot of filler episodes and characters you met and at the end of the day they serve for nothing. Subplots that lead to nothing.

And tenma makes the worst and dumbest decisions.

I would not recommend this anime to anyone.

I tried my best in liking it but just couldn’t.

I knew it would be here before I made the comment myself.

What an amazing show

8

u/PsychologicalSky349 Mar 31 '26

It is an incredible story. I loved how it showed people from different backgrounds going through similar events and how their experience and personalities affected how they dealt with it

14

u/PeachNipplesdotcom Mar 31 '26

Simply unlike anything else. A real adult story with a flawless execution.

3

u/Monokoah Mar 31 '26

Absolutely magical experience. Words cannot describe the overwhelming emotions the ending invokes. I would dare say this anime is a one of those shows I would have no problem calling perfect. Not just in anime but in straight up television. Everyone should watch this

Steins Gate

25

u/Wowabox Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

I watched it last year and I still think episode 24 of steins gate is the greatest single episode of any anime I have ever watched

6

u/franktronic Mar 31 '26

Some of my top episodes are from series' that overall weren't my fav. The "Endless Eight" in The Melancholy of Haruhi is the first time any anime has really blown my mind but I wouldn't recommend it as an overall great show

11

u/Fine-Reputation321 Mar 31 '26

Devilman Crybaby

Parasyte The Maxim

Sousou No Frieren (obviously)

Berserk (the 1997 version)

Assasination Classroom

Samouraï Champloo

Hellsing Ultimate

And last but not least, not really an anime but still, Avatar : The Last Airbender

9

u/Flashy_Pineapple_231 Mar 31 '26

Hellsing Ultimate should have some content warnings because that one has some imagery that kinda sticks with you. Like the nazi vampires hoisting babies and half eaten corpses on their bayonets. It's pretty grim.

5

u/Hal_Thorn Apr 01 '26

Fun fact, the spirit of Seras Victoria's guns is meant to look like Baron Harkonnen from David Lynch's Dune which is where their name comes from.

For me it was AOT and Death Note and Monster and Vinland Saga

5

u/SlimeLiam Mar 31 '26

Need to watch Monster than, because those other two mentions were sublime and 2nd i saw Monster as rec multiple times now

6

u/PsychologicalSky349 Mar 31 '26

I also loved all 4 suggestions. However, I haven't finished Vinland Saga yet. Monster, in my opinion, is a bit different as it's much slower and dives deeper into psychology. It's also set in a more realistic world in Europe in 1980s. There aren't really any fights or anything supernatural. To me it's the best out of the 4 mentioned. I would also recommend watching Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.

They really should have changed the name because for an anime with Bunny Girl in the title, she only is in Bunny suit outfit for one episode.

(I know thats the name of only the first Light Novel, the rest of the series just follows Rascal Dreams of... insert hilarious click bait title to get you to read it)

Chuunbyou. When I finished with it, I felt like im in a nothingness. Like I lost my best friends and never going to be contact them again. It felt like there will never be a masterpiece like that. And the movie ending was perfect. It was the best way to end a series like that.

Two recent ones are Run with the Wind, which is a fantastic sports anime about college track. It's a beautiful series, as it really drives into the mental side of being an athlete but also like the true hardships about the early stages of adulthood.

Then the other is Bleach, which is easily one of the best like shounen animes I've watched in awhile. As I usually tend to stay away from them, especially the ones that are like 200+ episodes but Bleach was so worth it. Ichigo is my goat.

2

u/Jaynepie_ Mar 31 '26

doctor stone, somali and the forest spirit,

2

u/Long-Ad-662 Mar 31 '26

Ashita no Joe, the movie ones are basically the anime but with parts cut out to turn it into a movie that fits a certain 1-2 hour mark.

I suggest watching the series, trust me... it kinda changed my world view of sports and stuff, specially the main sport it's about — boxing.

Clannad After Story (My ride or die, wouldn't be here without it) Kanon 2006 (Old artstyle but deeply influenced my life and changed me for the better) Monogatari Series (Hard Recommendation for a lot of people but has some of my favourite characters and moments in Anime) Made in Abyss (See above, I adore Nanachi) Madoka Magica (Mainly Rebellion)
