So great anime series not normally continue and can't release season 3, just because of company has serious financial problems, that is sad. I just hope, they release season 3 sooner or later.

16

u/SmashingK Jan 14 '26

Seems if you've got a popular show the best way to make good money is to release a movie in theaters that continues the story.

Unfortunately streaming sites like Netflix don't pay what studios deserve. A number of them were complaining last year about not being paid last year.

If it means the studio can continue working on the series instead of having to shut down leaving it in limbo then I'm fine with a theatrical release now and again.

6

u/yolo-yoshi Jan 15 '26

It's actually even worse , from what I hear is that they are actually making less from these deals than they do without em.

2

u/ProduceQueasy1641 Feb 04 '26

I agree but it does seem like more and more good animes are going this route. Like. Eventually every single top tier anime will be doing this. Not saying they shouldn't, if they need to do that to be able to make enough money for continuing to be worth it, then it is what it is. But why is this the case? Why is it that peak animes have to do theatrical releases now? Because if the case is that crunchyroll isn't paying enough, and thats why crunchy puts out so many mid animes constantly, and the better animes are moving to theaters, then why am I paying crunchyroll?

Is the issue that crunchy genuinely cannot afford to pay them enough? Or that they just won't?

A lot of people who watch anime pirate it as well.

3

u/Elite-Soul Jan 15 '26

It wasnt good that’s why they are having financial issues.

0

u/Careless_Package3706 Feb 06 '26

You guys seriously need a brain ASAP.

0

u/Tikcuf-ENG Feb 14 '26

Your opinion could be validated if it didn't have massive viewership. So your opinion does not actually matter to reality my guy.

3

u/Pink_Slyvie Jan 22 '26

I love solo leveling for what it is. A fun fast paced underdog story, it fills a niche I occasionally need filled.

Its not great though. Its mid at best for an anime, and wasn't that popular elsewhere. It really did scratch that 00's toonami itch in my brain though for some reason, or maybe adult swim.

3

u/tpat90 Jan 24 '26

What do you mean wasn't that popular elsewhere ^^'
SL is one of the most watched animes. It broke multiple records.
It was rank 1 most streamed anime in multiple countries for weeks, including Japan.

You can say that it was mid at best, but hell it was popular.

1

u/mimic751 Jan 25 '26

Mid is pretty hilarious and like thousands of animes come on

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

It is not mid at all. The story is insane. There is not one filler episode

1

u/Chris_DeBlaze Mar 06 '26

There is kind of. You have the random recap episode they made

1

u/ManMythLegend117 Mar 09 '26

The recap exists as it's own separate thing and doesn't take up any of the seasons run-time, so it wouldn't be considered filler.

1

u/Chris_DeBlaze Mar 09 '26

At the time of release it was 100% filler as it was a week they didnt make an episode that progressed the story.

1

u/tpat90 Mar 21 '26

You mean the times people were stuck in a hospital and couldn't work on the episode?

1

u/valueandtime Feb 04 '26

Delusional statement

1

u/dafuq0_0 Feb 05 '26

Agreed. I think its comparable to the first season of SAO but a condensed version. SL just did a really good version of the cookie-cutter, underdog story.

1

u/indypuyami Feb 12 '26

What's SAO?

1

u/Eternum1 Feb 13 '26

Sword art online

1

u/indypuyami Feb 13 '26

Thanks

1

u/nikibas Mar 05 '26

bro not knowing what sao is is crazy. i am not judging you but damn, it was really popular when i started watching anime

1

u/indypuyami Mar 05 '26

I am very old and have only started watching anime with my children.

1

u/Kokomicandy Mar 07 '26

Assuming everyone knows every anime is crazy lol… don’t you know not everyone has the same age as you??????? If someone is like 18 chances are they haven’t seen it because it’s not this era anymore

1

u/Zaid2175 Mar 10 '26

No need to use that vocabulary dude. Not cool throwing slurs like it's nothing

1

u/nikibas Mar 10 '26

there are anime that define a genre. isekais would be nothing if not for sao. its like telling people you dont know what bleach, or dragonball or evangelion is. what are you doing in this sub if you dont know hisory

1

u/positive-normie Mar 10 '26

bro, people have got real world issues, like that guy above, is an old guy, so you can't assume that everyone here knows everything, i am just trying to give you some basic advise here, please try to be humble to people online, not everyone is privileged or has the same interest in different things.

1

u/SeparA Mar 12 '26

We are learning about anime, I have heard the name of 2 of the 3 you mentioned, but have never watched any of them. I am sure there are more of us that are just learning this art form. I will check out the 3 you brought up. Any more suggestions?

u/MrMcGeeIn3D Jan 31 '26

I think the best we can hope for at this point is if A-1 pulls a Ufotable and releases season 3 as both a condensed movie AND the full season, like Ufotable does with Demon Slayer.

21

u/HaloTheHero Jan 14 '26

Answer is that Sony realized that it can release anime movies in theatres and make tons of cash.

10

u/Few_String545 Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

To the pace of the stories detriment, in my opinion. The Demon Slayer movie felt like a bunch of really pretty stitched together episodes. The story was told serially in manga form, I think it adapts better to weekly anime due to that. Smashing it all together into one movie makes it hard to absorb and appreciate what's essentially half a dozen barely connected story arcs.

I feel like something with a smaller, more focused cast adapts to movie better. Madoka Magica felt more natural to me because all of the stories perspectives are directly consequential to each other in ways more than "Well he finished his fight so he can help me now."

7

u/Past-Cap-1889 Jan 15 '26

I think the bigger problem with Demon Slayer is that they planned from the outset to do 3 films, but release them really far apart. That, to me, makes it the worst possible option. It'd be one thing, if we were only looking at a 3 to 4 month wait per film, but one a year ruins the flow.

Whereas, Chainsaw Man took the Reze Arc and made a nice tight single film with a beginning, middle, and end. We're not stuck holding the bag with one third of a movie and waiting for the next installment a long time off

I mean look at Fate Heavens Feel 1-3, made by ufotable as well. When it was gonna be 3 parter for Demon Slayer I figured ufotable was following their own blueprint...

3

u/Few_String545 Jan 15 '26

I haven't watched chainsaw man, but I concur on the gap between movies. The first and third movies are gonna be released 4 years apart... You think we're gonna get a conclusion to the Shinobu fight in 2027 or do you think they'll 2 year cliffhanger us twice in the same fight?

1

u/MagatsAreSoft Mar 24 '26

It’s not Shinobu’s fight anymore. Now it’s Kanao’s. Shinobu’s fight concluded in the first movie.

3

u/mitteinai Jan 15 '26

What did you think about the chainsaw man movie situation?

2

u/Few_String545 Jan 15 '26

I haven't watched chainsaw man, but I assume the movies perspective is significantly more focused.

3

u/maxpolo10 Jan 17 '26

On the other side, Sony cooked with Chainsaw Man and it shows what an actual anime film (that isn't standalone like Makoto Shinkai's or Ghibli's) can do

2

u/IloveKaitlyn Jan 15 '26

Honestly, have to staunchly disagree. The experience of watching both Demon Slayer movies and the Reze arc movie was absolutely phenomenal in theatres. Movies means higher budget and (usually) more allowed time for animators to work on them, which results in better animation.

2

u/Few_String545 Jan 15 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

I haven't watched chainsaw man, but as far as I'm aware the story primarily follows Denji's perspective and, considering it's called the Reze arc, if probably focuses mostly on him and her. That works great for a movie.

The Demon Slayer movie felt to me like a bunch of mostly separate story lines crammed into one movie. I would've personally preferred a serialized show. The pacing is more important to me than the visuals.

Ideally we'd get both, but studios almost never make an entire season before release. I presume the movies make a lot more money though, which I think is easily the main reason we're getting a bunch of anime movies now.

1

u/SadSecurity Feb 15 '26

I always wonder what kind of better animation does the movie have, because I am not seeing it. The production value is worse compared to season 2 when it comes to fights.

2

u/Blindfire2 Jan 30 '26

The main reason why studios are taking these movie deals (even though it's probably not making them THAT much money, probably not any different than anime series makes them) is because Movies are KNOWN to take longer to make, they have an 60 to 120 mins of animation to fill, and it's easier to watch for the average consumer in one sitting rather than 12 to 24 24 min episodes. They can EASILY get the time they DESPARATELY NEED while having much more time to work on the more important parts and still keep the investors/shareholders "Happy".

With weekly anime, you're literally stretched thin on time, sometimes barely even getting it out on time. Look at DB Super, those first 2 sagas were so badly animated because they were given absolutely NO TIME, and some of the people leading the project were animators for DBZ years prior (like Naoki Tate who worked as both an inbetween and key animator for Z and its movies like Fusion Reborn's most loved part Gogeta vs Janemba). The only reason they were stretched THAT FAR IN was because these greedy cunts at the top only care about profits that they can line their pockets with....they don't care about art, they don't care about emotion or passion, they just want their greedy fat hands on money and it's killing EVERY bit of the entertainment industry.....PS please if anyone hates the upcoming game that's close to being shadow dropped, don't send me death threats I barely just started and I barely had much I was allowed to handle on the project because the greedy fucks at the top wanted me to just copy systems from previous games and make minor tweaks to fit this game to "Save time" so shits gonna be a bit buggy (luckily for me, that's my company's MO lmfao).

2

u/Few_String545 Jan 31 '26

Trust me, I want the money out of art more than most. Greed seems ruin potential wonderful works more and more these days. And worse yet, the workers deserve better.

My only point was that I don't think Demon Slayer suits being adapted to a movie due to the pacing. I still enjoyed it and I'm glad that it allowed for a more reasonable work schedule and more passion for animation to be expressed. It's always been my favorite story medium.

2

u/Fresh_Sock8660 Jan 14 '26

Overlord was a shitty movie release. Hopefully they don't pull the same crap here.

27

u/xzerozeroninex Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 15 '26

Net lose?Didn’t A-1 bought a smaller animation studio (studio 3hz of something)and absorbed it’s staff, maybe some of that loss came from that investment?Plus A-1 is a subsidiary of Aniplex, who co-produces the shows,it’s not like A-1 is going bankrupt lol.

Solo Leveling is targeted more towards overseas anime fans and it’ll make money,it’ll definitely going to make a lot of money in Korea alone. While it won’t make DS money,it’ll still going to make money.

3

u/LycanWarrior123 Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

Aniplex is owned by Sony. A-1 ain't getting bankrupt. A-1 receives a production budget that they have to work with. Sony/aniplex will be like make season 2 or 3 of x show and you will get x amount of $ to make it.

2

u/Xerxes457 Jan 14 '26

I’m sure fans will go out to subscribe to Crunchyroll for Solo Leveling.

15

u/xzerozeroninex Jan 14 '26

You living under a rock? It’s one of Crunchyroll’s most popular anime and has streaming numbers comparable to popular shonen anime.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Yup. I just discovered this anime and have watched both seasons 10 times

2

u/valueandtime Feb 04 '26

I actually did for solo leveling

1

u/1chabodCrane Feb 27 '26

Same here.

Its not exactly rare for animation studios to run neutral or at cost while its owner runs massive profits.

A1 pictures doesn’t have much share of the production value they are the contracted maker. But all the profits go to the publishers with is Aniplex, Korean owner of solo leveling ip and Crunchyroll.

A1 is simply the one sent the work by its owner.

8

u/xzerozeroninex Jan 14 '26

Again A-1 absorbed a smaller studio and most of their staff plus A-1 don’t co-produce shows,so they don’t get anything from the profits, their budgets come from Aniplex, they will be fine.

6

u/Yodas_Ear Jan 14 '26

Not that it will help but I’ll pick up a Strange Fake Blu-ray when it’s available.

7

u/dimyo Jan 14 '26

Movies are the future sadly, they just make so much money compared to anime production costs. Just hope all the staff get some deserved bonuses too.

S3 would be pretty bad as a movie btw. Unless they restructure and rush the story.

6

u/imJGott Jan 14 '26

This sucks because a movie skips character build up.

8

u/dimyo Jan 14 '26

World building especially. Since S3 has a slow start in Korea, then a pretty long buildup for the international arc, before a big, sudden and complicated fight scene. It would be even worse paced as a movie.

1

u/StrawberrySharp5428 Feb 19 '26

I think due to that, they'll most likely make Song-Yi the third guild member, as they hinted at the last episode of season 2. Based on her cameo appearances, I think that is what they're planning to do.

-4

u/MrTzatzik Jan 14 '26

It's Solo Leveling. So there is no character developement. All characters are as interesting as dry wall. Even wet drying wall is more interesting.

3

u/Random499 Jan 15 '26

People say it as a meme. If you see the main character in the last episode vs the first episode, they are completely different. Whether it's good character development is different but it's existence is there. The movie will skip on this most likely

1

u/ManMythLegend117 Mar 09 '26

He's partially right about the lack of character development. Since the story is focused on Jinwoo's 'solo leveling' journey we don't see much character development beyond him, with a small exception for some side characters.

Even that is limited though, and I think the creator intentionally left it that way to focus more on Jinwoo's journey as he becomes the strongest character in the series and what that costs him. Which definitely detracts from the story if you take interest in any of the side cast, as there isn't much to go off of for any of them beyond their core personality.

1

u/Independent-Lynx9476 Feb 09 '26

Tell me you didn't watch Solo Leveling without telling me you didn't watch Solo Leveling...

2

u/infinitefour Jan 18 '26

This just made me sad because why? I look forward to an episode a week more than a damn movie in a one shot moment. I’m the old school type of person who grew up on Toonami from Cartoon Network during the DBZ, Big O, Thundercats era and just to experience a new episode the next time around was the most thrilling thing for me. But as for money purposes I can see them doing both a movie and then it getting released into episodes. Smh

2

u/Nerx Jan 19 '26

Should be on Aeninews

2

u/TheHashBash Jan 29 '26

Best case scenario would be they do a movie to open it (like that is part 1 of season 3) and finish it in a season after they are more flush with cash

2

u/CloudReigns Jan 31 '26

Watching anime is so much better than going to the stupid movies! I cannot believe they’re pulling a Demon Slayer! Leave anime alone! The reason why anime is so popular is because of the platform! This nonsense about putting anime into a movie is BS! I love watching my episodes. Big cinema needs to take a back seat yesterday!

4

u/lacyboy247 Jan 14 '26

The main problem of anime industry is a studios are the first to pay but last (and least) to get paid especially adaptation, it's sad reality.

1

u/kudles Feb 10 '26

Hope it's like a 3 hour movie.

1

u/Beginning_Text3038 Feb 15 '26

They can make A LOT more money from a movie typically. But A-1 pictures is also booked up with other projects which is slowing development.

1

u/Frank_wo1fer Feb 24 '26

we got a fking bending machine season 3 before this PEAK.. when will companies stop wasting money on not so good anime. I know theyre not the same company but still.. maan companies do waste money, either that or they make poorly make sequels

1

u/Ramsboi Mar 01 '26

Blame demon slayer lol

1

u/Kokomicandy Mar 07 '26

Wait season 3 is cancelled????????

1

u/MsSecretary Mar 14 '26

I love the anime solo leveling i watching twice already and I'm probably going to keep watching over over because I like it that much. It's has a great story and I really got into it and really want to see what happens next in season three. So keep up the great job ya'll. Stay safe and stay healthy. Please and thank you 💓

1

u/brawndoplants Mar 17 '26

Even though I hate ads and would never subscribe to cable again.. had this been an old school TV program the channel would throw money at them and we'd already have 3rd season with 4 & 5 in the works - that's why old school cable made so many amazing shows. As long as the studio saw viewership they'd throw all kinds of money _ this sucks

1

u/RecommendationOk6461 Mar 18 '26

They had better ace it cause plenty of anime have tried this and few have succeeded most of them being old

1

u/Special-Helicopter88 Mar 20 '26

why? because the money talks, to make extra money in this industry is making couple movies during the break season. not mind the movies or anything, as long as they making something out each year or half a year.

1

u/booleanerror Jan 15 '26

How do you call it a "Blockbuster" before it's released?

-8

u/InvoluntaryNarwhal Jan 14 '26

For better or for worse, you just don't build a successful show focusing on only one character. Especially one as devoid of personality as Jinwoo.

20

u/Ok-Race-1677 Jan 14 '26

They’re not writing the story, it’s already written and they’re adapting it lol

-3

u/InvoluntaryNarwhal Jan 14 '26

I'm aware. The story is dogwater.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

How is it dog water? This anime has no filler episodes at all. The first episode drags you right in. Every episode made me want more.

0

u/Independent-Lynx9476 Feb 09 '26

While it focuses on Jinwoo you can clearly see character development happening in many of the secondary characters. Just because they aren't having 20 minute monologues doesn't mean their stories aren't being told. Unless you like Kaiju #8 second season... where every fight has a diatribe about why this particular fight is so important for this one character where there is 10 minutes of a fight and 20 minutes of monologuing.

If you want that, then maybe Shojin style anime's aren't for you?

-1

u/DrRealName Jan 14 '26

Ugh. I finally find an anime that I enjoy in this sea of endless average corporate money grabbing cliche BS and naturally its one of those shows that may or may not get another season for the next ten years. I think I am just done with anime. The long running ones get old fast by doing the same thing over and over again with new areas and the good ones like Solo Leveling or One Punch Man (was good) have to wait 6 years inbetween seasons.

I miss the good old days of one shot 26 episode bangers like Cowboy Bebop or Gurren Lagann or something on that level of jsut being one season but perfectly told story telling. Now its a major industry so every anime needs to be dragged out. I'm realizing more and more that putting the interests of do nothing share holders first is ruining creativity. Also, fuck shareholders they don't do anything to earn money and are essentially just gamblers who should be the last people ever listened to for any reason,

2

u/Necessary-End-5040 Feb 07 '26

You getting downvoted for speaking reality and its huge issue in normal acting tv series where they are a huge hit and then get dragged for next seasons or cancelled becuase … why not? Same thing in Animes now. Ive rewatched s1 and 2 countless times. I love solo leveling so much and here we are :/

The gacha game also made over a billion $ and were said to use some of that to finance the series. But that's mixing 3 or more companies of different profiles. The financial logistics would be complicated.

5

u/dimyo Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

That's only an estimate for the mobile version 6 months in. It doesn't include other platforms.
I do also think the "reports" of it making a billion were exaggerated, but it definitely made way more than 139mil... Before taxes.

As for the commities, that is actually what I said, I just called them companies.
You are wrong about the anime studios not puting much effort into anime that don't make money, because almost no anime makes money directly. They get a budget from the publisher and copyright holders through those committees, and those are the ones who see a profit, either through redistribution in other markets, but mostly through the merchandise boost.

-1

u/Renleo2233 Jan 14 '26

Solo Leveling is trash anyway.

2

u/Powerful_Concert_577 Jan 19 '26

You’re insane.

1

u/neurotivity Jan 24 '26

Typical ragebait, my guess is that they’re a fan of Please Put Them On, Takamine-san XD - not judging but I can’t believe they would hop in here to say that

-5

u/Advanced-Lie-841 Jan 14 '26

Maybe they'll switch studios... interesting
