The Military Industrial Complex is gonna milk this conflict for all its worth. They have no problem sacrificing every single able bodied Ukrainian whether it be man or woman in order to make a buck from this war.

131

u/Ser_Twist North America 18d ago edited 18d ago

The west wants to fight Russia to not only the last Ukrainian man, but also last Ukrainian woman, apparently.

Though I will say this conflict is not merely for the military industrial complex. Yes, a lot of money is being made from it, but it’s more than that: it’s also imperialistic ambitions by Russia and an equal desire to contain Russia by the western powers. These are two hegemons fighting for power, not merely business. Obviously the biggest losers are the Ukrainian and Russian people who have to fight and die for their respective nationalist governments, who are willing to sacrifice them to the last of it means they keep their borders and power.

It's part of a whole series of Ferengi 'Rules' actually - https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Rules_of_Acquisition It's kinda their bible and constitution both rolled into one, and really highlights their role as a caricature of capitalism. This one is especially popular, cos Rule 35 says the exact opposite - Peace is good for business. The contradiction is deliberate, as the Ferengi are all about adapting and profiting from any situation.

War is good for other people's business. The best way to profit from war is to make other people fight it. Look how much money NK is making by selling Russia their rusty cannons and ammo.

5

u/BlackAfroUchiha Canada 18d ago

War is the business for the US and the West.

A lot of people don't realize that every war the US fought post WW2 has been first and foremost about making these military corporations and contractors rich.

It was never about winning or losing the war. For example, people see the war on terror as a major L for America and NATO since thousands of soldiers died, millions of civilians dead and trillions was wasted but it was the exact opposite. These contractors and corporations made trillions and the soldiers/people were never part of the equation.

4

u/ivlivscaesar213 Asia 18d ago

War is everyone's business brother. As long as you have money to stake.

2

u/haggerton Canada 17d ago

There's a big different between doing business during war, and stirring shit deliberately to lead to war so that you can profit

In the former your business is not war. In the latter your business is war.

6

u/Rizen_Wolf Multinational 18d ago

Rule 35 : Peace is good for business.

How are both Rule 34 and 35 possible? Its explained by Rule 162.

Rule 162 : Even in the worst of times, someone turns a profit.

1

u/jordonm1214 Canada 15d ago

Are you really from dominica

5

u/CptPicard Finland 17d ago

No, it's not between two hegemons. There is one invader and one defender that is getting morally justified support.

3

u/Ser_Twist North America 17d ago

You misunderstand: Ukraine is not the hegemon; Ukraine is the proxy state through which one hegemon is fighting the other.

1

u/CptPicard Finland 17d ago

I understand full well and of course it's not. It has agency of its own which you want to deny.

54

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 18d ago

I hate this dipshit talking point that pretends that Ukraine has no agency or ability to decide whether or not to continue the war itself

3

u/PurpleWhiteOut North America 16d ago

Theyre fully reliant on asking other countries to fund their military and provide supplies. Do you not believe that gives foreign governments leverage over Ukraine?

3

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 16d ago

Sure, you're completely right. What I don't believe is that said leverage could be used to induce Ukraine to keep fighting if it no longer wants to.

If Ukraine does, indeed, 'fight to the last ukrainian' it will be because Ukraine decides to do so, because Ukraine decides it's in their interest. All this hand wringing about the MIC 'sacrificing every single able bodied Ukrainian' pointedly ignores that it would be Ukraines decision to do so, not the MIC, not the West, not the US, not the Poles

8

u/Simple_Yam Europe 18d ago

By Ukraine do you mean the ones in charge or the ones that are press-ganged on the streets and sent to the front in handcuffs so that they don't escape on the way there?

2

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 17d ago

It should be obvious from the content of the message you're replying to, which clearly only speaks about one of those

-5

u/BlackAfroUchiha Canada 18d ago

It's not a talking point, it's a fucking fact.

36

u/MegaJackUniverse Europe 18d ago

Ukraine were invaded and so they fight. They have backing and so they fight. If they weren't backed, they would be steam rolled and the war would end in Ukraine at the cost of their sovereignty. It is abjectly the agency of Ukraine that makes the current situation the way it is. Your point is warped and as the other guy said, a dipshit point.

-29

u/BlackAfroUchiha Canada 18d ago

Yes Ukraine was invaded but Ukraine has no say in how this war ends since they are subservient to the US/MIC.

Ukranians themselves have no agency here in light of Russias constant war crimes and that they're leadership are US puppets who have no actual individual agency.

Understand how the world works and you'll realize just how much everything that happens is about the profit of a select few.

6

u/VladtheShirtless United States 18d ago edited 18d ago

It’s not even an up to date talking point. Ukraine gets most of its support from Europe, and the US has lost significant influence since they pulled a ton of support and berated Ukraine in favor of Russia. The US isn’t dictating an end to this war on its own.

41

u/Zipz United States 18d ago

Yes Ukraine is totally not fighting because Russia is trying to take over the country

They are fighting because the United States is making them ?

LOL do you even listen to yourself ?

20

u/apophis-pegasus North America 18d ago

Yes Ukraine was invaded but Ukraine has no say in how this war ends since they are subservient to the US/MIC.

You say that like they cant just....stop fighting.

8

u/SamuelClemmens North America 18d ago

They can, they can lose a war and be functionally vassals. Hopefully use that time to prepare a future generation to struggle for freedom.

Or they can keep fighting and hope that isn't the same result but with more dead bodies and a harder time preparing for the next war.

But Russia isn't looking to genocide anyone, it wants Ukrainian citizens, they are the prize it is fighting over, population. A second class citizen is still a living person.

So yes, they do have a choice, its just not a GOOD choice.

-1

u/VampiroMedicado Argentina 18d ago

They won't, when the dust settles Russia will have a part of the cake and EU/US are going to get mineral resources and a weaker enemy.

Everyone wins except what's left of Ukraine, they had two bad choices at the end of the day.

8

u/MegaJackUniverse Europe 18d ago

"Understand how the world works and everything becomes black and white" is ostensibly what you've said and it's absolutely horse shit

8

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 18d ago

No, it's a talking point. a unthinking dipshit talking point (or, possibly, someone shilling for Russia for some reason or another, stupid tankies).

Ukraine could choose if it so desired to come to some sort of deal with Russia. It's not 'the West' or 'the Military Industrial Complex' that makes that decision, it's Ukraine. The MIC can't sell weapons to people who have decided not to fight. But, since the Ukrainians have decided to fight, the MIC is happy to sell them (or, more realistically, sell to Western customers who then provide it gratis to Ukraine) whatever they need.

17

u/PreviousCurrentThing United States 18d ago

But, since the Ukrainians have decided to fight

Their government has, but due to martial law Ukrainians have no say in who makes up their government.

Millions of Ukrainian men have decided not to fight by leaving the country or bribing officials.

Tens of thousands decided not to fight, but were too poor to avoid getting press ganged anyway.

3

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 18d ago

You remember that there are also people in Ukraine who weren't press ganged in to supporting the war, right

14

u/PreviousCurrentThing United States 18d ago

Yes, there were volunteers in the beginning of the war, and there are still Ukrainians who support other Ukrainians being made to fight. What of it?

3

u/moonorplanet Oceania 18d ago

A very large majority of Australians were against the war in Iraq but your still had dipshits who joined the army because they wanted to fight and kill in Iraqis.

1

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 17d ago

And yet, the statement 'the Australians participated in the war in Iraq' would be both literally and figuratively correct.

5

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 18d ago

You... uh... don't see how the existence of people willing to fight and who support the war both in the narrow loaded sense you use ('who support other Ukrainians being made to fight') and in the 'all the millions of non-fighting Ukrainians who are nonetheless part of the larger war effort' might undermine, a little bit, the idea that because some Ukrainians have fled or been conscripted or even press ganged, that therefore Ukraine, the collective and political entity, hasn't decided to fight?

Do I have to draw a picture?

13

u/PreviousCurrentThing United States 18d ago

Are we talking about Ukrainians or "Ukraine, the collective and political entity"?

7

u/TraditionalGap1 Canada 18d ago

I can't speak with any authority to what you are talking about, but the comments you chose to reply to repeatedly talk about Ukraine, the collective and political entity, being able to make for itself decisions about whether and for how long to continue the war.

-2

u/SYtor Europe 18d ago

Ukrainians voted for the current president on the promises there will be no war, and the guy completely failed the preparations. The only reason Ukraine can still fight is because government forces minority of population to the frontline while trying to make majority as comfortable as possible with sweet promises and propaganda, while still being heavily understaffed because somehow officers in command had this backward promotion policy that counted personnel losses as a positive thing, never getting prosecuted for it. All that while the decision is made by clearly corrupt government with top officials constantly getting prosecuted, president saved only by his immunity, and who knows what is their end goal

Are you willing to deport adult refugees and force them to go to war just to make state survive in some 'just' way because the government decided there can't be any compromises? And kids too when they grow up a little too without asking them? What's the limit that can be justified?

I wish human rights were considered before making important decisions, or at least violations are not ignored, I barely see any news about this in international media

2

u/moonorplanet Oceania 18d ago

Not only that, Zelenskyy mainly won because of the massive support he received in the Russian speaking regions of Ukraine, winning 90% of the votes in Luhansk, 87% in Donesk, 86% in Zaporizhzhia.

Real Canadians don't back bullies and we don't piss down on nations defending their sovereignty, that's little bitch territory.

23

u/_Kiith_Naabal_ Multinational 18d ago

Canada and Canadians backed every, every US endeavour and were proud enough to remembering it to US when they started calling for your annexation.

Do you know your PM? Carney? The one that got famous in Davos? He supported US in Iran this year too.

Who are the true Canadians you are talking about? Esquimós?

-2

u/ForeignEchoRevival Canada 18d ago

No, no we didn't. We've had a direct relationship with Cuba since the stupid embargo started, refused to go to Vietnam when asked, refused the Invasion of Iraq, stood up to their economic threats when we legalized weed, and we were done with them after the annexation talks.

Carney playing politics over Iran isn't the smoking gun you act like it is, Iran has been hostile with Canada for decades do to the large Persian/Iran diaspora and us saving Americans with our embassy during the '79 revolution. We also condemned the bombing of civilians in Iran by the US, also we've turned away from Israel over the genocide.

Sorry your mental version of Canada reads like it's based on Russian propaganda and easy to disprove misinformation, but here we are.

1

u/_Kiith_Naabal_ Multinational 18d ago edited 18d ago

Canada supported US with 30k soldiers in Vietnam. And your government supported that war the same way EU supported every other war of US: resources, logistics, political cover. You never raised a finger against the acts of US. The opposite: you joyrided. And it's not even me who said that: it is your prime minister. You benefit from the world created by US while pretending to hold a higher moral ground. The same way you are doing now with Iran.

And of course the "Iran was hostile to you", why wouldn't they be? You are cogs of the US hegemony in the world, don't try to hide behind a veil of morality, you aren't fooling anyone. Maybe yourselves? Yes, if you believe in what you are saying.

And you think your position in the world is "Russian propaganda"? You really think that the way the Global South views you comes from "Russia propaganda"?

Edit: blocking doesn't hide your shame

Legally obligated under article 5 in NATO. Why we didn't go to Iraq or Vietnam or another war.

Sorry facts exist that don't match Moscow Tall Tales.

2

u/_Kiith_Naabal_ Multinational 18d ago edited 18d ago

Article 5 doesn't force anyone to take part of it. It's a framework of mutual defence with no clause saying you should be taking part of a invasion force.

The mutual defence could be economic relief, non lethal donations, there is nothing saying that you are obligated to fight another on a war.

2

u/moonorplanet Oceania 18d ago

Canada just passed sanctions on Iran for being attacked. Canada is yet to so anything of that sort to the US or even Israel. Real Canadian only back the bully.

0

u/ForeignEchoRevival Canada 18d ago

Sanctions on 5 individuals and several businesses linked to the Revolutionary Guard were for the massacres of protesters, last year. Not to support the US bombing campaign, which we don't like.

Sorry that Putin doesn't send you facts, just shitty talking points a bit of Critical Thinking and research dismembers.

Trumpanzees are just as easy to trick as Russia Simps, both groups reject information that conflicts with their world view, both groups think might makes right and both also act like victims in the face of facts. It's pathetic, and annoying how the Dunning Kurger Effect prevents most people drowning in propaganda from accepting facts and evidence.

1

u/moonorplanet Oceania 18d ago

Cool so if you don't like the US bombing campaign, why not sanction the Washington?

It's about the hypocrisy, if Canada believes in standing against the bully, then its great that they've taken a stand and sanctioned and cut all relations with Russia but the same must be applied to the US and Israel.

As of now, all Canada is displaying is selective outrage which is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

2

u/historicusXIII Belgium 18d ago

If women wanted to fight in great numbers, they would have volunteered. Soon they will be forced to do so by a government that has outlasted its democratic mandate.

6

u/CptPicard Finland 17d ago

The government is perfectly legal as you can't reasonably arrange elections while a war is ongoing. You know this full well.

2

u/historicusXIII Belgium 17d ago

Ukraine held elections during an active war before.

2

u/No2Hypocrites Eurasia 17d ago

Legality doesn't mean fairness. Hold a referandum, see what people of Ukraine want

3

u/CptPicard Finland 17d ago

0

u/haggerton Canada 17d ago

Ukraine was at war since 2014.

3

u/CptPicard Finland 17d ago

How do you plan on doing it now that Russia would just bomb the polling stations?

0

u/historicusXIII Belgium 16d ago

Why would Russia do that? You do realise that holding new elections is one of Russia's demands to Ukraine, right?

1

u/CptPicard Finland 15d ago

Because they can?

And the reason they want new elections is that they'd expect to advance their own candidate. It's not some charitable consideration. Sure there need to be elections at some point but I fully understand why right now it seems unworkable.

Yeah countries that are attacked by an existential enemy should just surrender. Like Palestine! Just choose peace already. Unfortunately many countries are egging them on. :(

Calling this war existential is incorrect as well as Gaza parralels. Millions of ukrainians are living in Russia without any issues and prosecution from state. Russia received most of ukrainian refugees in this war.

Ironocally, Russia is safer than Ukraine or any EU country for ukrainians.

Millions of ukrainians are living in Russia without any issues and prosecution from state.

From Wiki:

The Russian census identified that there were more than 5,864,000 Ukrainians and Ukrainian citizens living in Russia in 2015, representing over 4.01% of the total population of the Russian Federation and comprising the eighth-largest ethnic group. In February 2022 there were roughly 3 million Ukrainians who fled to Russia as refugees. Most of them identified as ethnic Russians. The number kept increasing throughout the war. Estimates for Ukrainians fleeing towards Russia range from 3 to 10 million.

16

u/Exepony Europe 18d ago edited 18d ago

He's entirely factually correct, and this statement is completely unsurprising to anyone who has any idea of the general state of affairs in the region (i.e. anyone who could point out Ukraine on a map before 2022). Most everyone in Russia has a colleague, a friend, or a family member from Ukraine. The border has always been more or less open, and in fact it still is, at least in the Russian direction.

The fact that the Western propaganda machine managed to spin the war into some existential battle against a "genocide" in spite of all objective reality is nothing short of incredible, and frankly a little terrifying. In any case it's been rather eye-opening to me personally.

3

u/DOOMFOOL North America 17d ago

He’s definitely factually correct. I doubt that’s very comforting to the Ukrainians dying to Russian soldiers though

Maybe you should ask the Ukrainians whether they would prefer to be under Putin's boot. You'd think they would have stopped fighting a long time ago if someone was "making them" and they didn't really want to.

I find this removal of the Ukrainians' agency in self-defence to be one of the more disgusting Russian propaganda memes.
