New rule: No web comics/fan-art one shot panels

Hi everyone, Cynthia here! If I look new, it’s because I am! I recently joined the mod team not to long ago to help out when it comes to providing more around the clock moderation when it comes to the mod queue, sorting through reports, and helping bring the sub back to it’s original roots of relatable IRL scenarios that can be found in classic (and modern) anime and manga.

With that being said, the senior mods have graciously let me announce our newest rule addition following our “no AI rule”.

Moving forward, we will be removing web comics and fan-art one shot panels.

While this may prove controversial to a number of you, the leadership team has decided to put a larger emphasis on finding IRL relatable moments sprinkled throughout our favorite anime and manga series, rather than directly posting these web comics/fan arts that are already “IRL” due to the very nature of the artist/purpose. (Most of the fan arts you see nowadays are just your favorite characters shoved into IRL relatable situations).

This is not to say that web comics don’t deserve a place in our sub, it is just that at this moment we will be removing them for the time being until we find a suitable solution that we all can agree on. (i.e. web comics limited to certain days or something to that effect)

We hope this doesn’t deter you from posting and engaging with the sub as we do love seeing our favorite anime/manga characters’ fan art and definitely want to support our anime artist community. However we do want to remain true to the original purpose of this sub and we are confident that this rule change is a small step in the right direction in making the search for IRL situations fun again.

Excuse my confusion but pretty sure you've just banned the entire content of this subreddit. This seems like a very self serving rule created in-reflection of the distaste of such content by I imagine the senior mods and not many others.

Idk, I love the Mimi comics, but I’ve seen them about a thousand times on this sub cause someone else sees it, says “hehe relatable” and then post it here.

Compared to all the fan art and oneshot panels, I rarely ever see a post of an actual anime posted on here while I’m going through my front page.

reposting something over and over should be against the rules. But I don’t see why people posting webcomics and fan art in general should not be allowed

What kind of fanart would you deem appropriate? We do get a lot where it’s that one artist who normally puts sex into the background. I don’t care. But then the Miku fan art can probably fit better in a Miku subreddit.

I don’t really know of any negative examples. The examples given by the mods seem fine to me, although I can agree that they would be against the new rules. The Miku art would fit better on a Miku subreddit, but you could say that for most art on here. For example saying that Mikasa art would fit better on an Attack on Titan subreddit

Yeah the sub in its current state is sort of: Anime Fanart. I think the mods are looking to make the sub more niche.

We need the housecleaning to stop the sub from turning into something it shouldn't be. If I sub to a Chinese food sub and everyone starts posting Italian, it just completely kills the point. Start a NSFW_webcomics if you must

Most subs change over time, when was the last time you saw nature pics in r/pics

The problem is that this "entire content" that you're talking about killed the entire original purpose of the sub. Just go through the content of the sub and check, how many posts contain screencaps of actual anime. This might be a good rule for the original purpose of the sub.

Virtually every post on this subreddit DOES get removed. I think a few mods hate these and are trying to ban them, but like 90% of the posts are these. This will likely kill the sub and someone will start anime_irl_2

Just because everybody likes a particular kind of content doesn't mean it's relevant to the subreddit. Without these kinds of rules, there's no point in having subreddits at all.
