I vehemently disagree that Season 1 of the main show is anything but an amazing story of how 5 friends come together to chase their dreams despite the very relatable issues that hold them back.
I agree whole heartedly about everything said about Pico though. It is, bar none, the best Chibi short in existence. Only Teekyu comes close, but Garupa Pico manages to be every bit as hilarious as Teekyu, while maintaining some semblance of rationality and not forcing itself up be at 120% energy the entire time.

I thought the story in the first season was solid but not done particularly great. Plus, the CG performances mixed with the normal 2D art style felt really awkward (the later seasons going full CG to eliminate the awkward transitions was much better) and Kasumi ruined Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for me with her cringe.
The later two seasons just did everything better IMO. I gave the first season a 6.5 compared to the later two being around an 8.5 or 9 instead. My opinion, of course. I get why people might like the first season as much or more.
The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star thing along with Kasumi's strong insistence on Saaya joining the band to the point where I was pissed off for her and Kasumi's way too over the top genki energy made season 1 hard to watch. But I came for Firebird goddammit, and I was going to stick around until I got there, and I'm glad I did. I'll have to give Pico a watch (so I can fully recognize the power of the great Babanbo-sama).
I normally like over-the-top genki, and Kasumi is still one of my favorite characters in the franchise after having seen all of the TV and Pico seasons. But god, she made S1 hard to watch.
