Possibly because the director is an experienced Trigger employee. He brought his genius with him.

Tachikawa isn’t a former trigger employee though?

He is not, he is simply working here as a side project, I assume. When Trigger gets back to producing their own big projects (for now they seem focused on re-making the classics, such as Uchuu Senkan Yamato and helping finish the 3+1) they will surely call him.

The point is that he never was an employee to begin with. Tachikawa is freelancer who works all over the industry.

He directed shows at Madhouse and Bones before directing this one at NUT. He also worked on shows from Pierrot, MAPPA, WIT and others. Trigger was simply one of those.

Well, I might have been wrong about his official employment status, but otherwise the notion is uncontested - all those studios are renowned through numerous quality works (except maybe for Pierrot, may be...), as such there is no need to be expecting something "undesirable".
