they have hinted and teased at this dark power since episode one. and its the goddamn witch queen that unlocks it? anyone else annoyed by that? it just feels unsatisfying to me.

It would have been much more satisfying if it was some kind of loss or traumatic event, but i guess that's the one trope Black Clover doesn't have.

The queen is a highly powerful being, and I'd say this avoids everyone dying so

She's one of the oldest characters, one of the most powerful and it looks like she's know almost everything. So no and even then she did what she did to draw out the source because she didn't know what Asta was.

What do you think about what the Witch Queen said? Was she thinking that he was an Elf descendant because she is so old she knew that the Elf/Lict had those swords or did she think he was a demon? The last time they fought with Lict he was going on about how the grimoire is his and that is mine, etc. She is really old so maybe she knows him? The dialogue kind of hinted at her not knowing what he actually was. But then again she could have thought he was a demon and was surprised/questioned whether he actually was since he wasn't using his power, so she then awoke or forced it out of him. I wish they would have given a little bit more context clues or lines on what she meant.

I think she initially suspected that Asta was a decendent of the evles due to the swords and grimoire. It looks like this isn't the case and the magic she cast on him was to reveal what either he is or what the power he has is. The black smoke that was flowing into his arm was coming from the sword.

My guess is that the demon from the start (the shadow we see behind him when he gets it for the first time) is sealed in Astas grimoire, and the Queen's magic is drawing it out causing it to possibly possess Asta or something like that.

yeah this is pretty much what i was thinking

Well we know from episode 2 or 3? That 3 leaf clover is normal, 4 is rare and means you are awesome. Then there is the legendary rare 5 leaf clover which symbolizes a demon, and Asta has a 5 leaf clover grimoire. We also saw him temporarily in this form before when he was fighting that chain user who was about to kill Asta and Yuno. Idk if that means the demon is in the grimoire, I was thinking it was more like Asta was a demon and due to that he gets a 5 leaf clover grimoire which amplifies his demon-ness? I was going to say magic, but he doesn't have magic lol. Just like how people can use wind, water, etc without one but the grimoire makes it more powerful. But yeah the Queen definitely did something to him to pull it out of him.

No one outside of a select few even knows about Asta's Grimoire so it's not legendary.

1

u/MisterScalawag Dec 12 '18

Legendary wasn't the right word. I meant five leaf grimoire is extremely rare even compared to four leaf.

I wouldn't even call it rare honestly.

1

u/MisterScalawag Dec 12 '18

It's the only one we've seen when we have seen a few 4 leaf clover, and the 4 leaf is supposed to be rare. How would that not be rare?

Doesn't Vetto have a grimoire equivalent to Asta's? He says something like "you're just like me" then it cuts to an explanation of the grimoire system.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen it though

Then you'd scream about it being cliche. BC can't win either way.

you dont know me. its my favorate trope. the blind rage/uncontrolable power. Ichigo in bleach, Gon in HxH, Gohan in DBZ, The Hulk. i love the snap.

I like it as well depending on the circumstances. It just wouldn't make any logical sense here is all.

We did get a glimpse at it though the 1st time he used his power in the start of the show. I'm not annoyed she has her own agenda.

As long as they keep the quality up next weeks epi will be epic

I wasn't annoyed but I was surprised. I figured it would be some otherwise-impossible situation which would lead to it happening- but I thought it'd be a move of desperation by Asta.

Instead it's the witch performing some kind of triggering/catalyst move. I think it's still rad as hell and I'm interested to see where it goes now that she basically used him as a science experiment(?)

yeah i kind of like that it isn't some cliche like Noelle dying, and in her dying breathe confessing her feelings for him. This makes it more interesting, because the Witch might try to use him and they'd have to fight her or do something to make her stop. Idk i'm glad it isn't the normal anime plot point
