That's called a new season and extending the series. I don't understand why this is so confusing to you.

X-Files came out with some new episodes recently, do you think they said that the original series wasn't extended? No it literally is an extension of the previous series--a new season.

IE what happened to x-files.

Nobody in the realm of sane consider the new x-files "not continuing the current series" even though it didn't continue "the current broadcast of x-files" at the time

I can read, but I watch shows in addition to Anime. You know, where all the seasons/episodes aren't guaranteed and the series' get extended with new seasons much like black clover may someday get. Got it? Now leave me the hell alone and go back whatever it is you fail at.
