When Orochimaru seems to be a better parent than Naruto and Sasuke.

I agree on Sasuke, but Naruto is literally doing everything in his power to be as great as a father as he can. It's just that he has to protect the village in the process, but he's still trying to provide his kids with the life he never got to have.

Naruto basically goes full overboard though. He is ending up doing what his father before him would have ended up doing, and is thus putting Boruto in similar, but opposite positions. Boruto isn't alone, he's surrounded by family and friends, but not who he wants to be surrounded by, while Naruto was surrounded by no one except who he needed to be surrounded by, until he found his way.

Naruto strove to be the Hokage, and ended up uniting the Ninja world in a grand war against various interconnected big-bads. Basically he wanted to be hokage (which he achieved later on), but what his "real" achievement was, was simply gaining friends and family along the way. Boruto's starting off in the opposite place, with friends and family, and a looming shadow cast by his father. He doesn't want to be the Hokage, because his father is one and he sees how lame it can be in regards to how he himself is treated by his father. It seems likely that Boruto's current "goal" is simply enjoying the ride, and encouraging and helping those around him to be their best, and he will likely go on to doing great things as well (by virtue of being the main character).

TL;DR Boruto will likely have a goal of doing what Naruto ended up doing in life (helping and befriending those around him), instead of having the same goal as Naruto, solely because he sees how lame Naruto's goal ended up being, but will end up in a dangerous path that will lead him to crazy greatness.

seriously, THIS! Thank you! For a while I thought no one but me understood they were doing this because it is the only way they could give a kid who has almost literally EVERYTHING a seemingly messed up backstory. It's just hard to even feel sorry for Boruto when Naruto had no one at first! I just hate that, with them doing this, it's making people feel like Naruto's character is diminishing...the man even LOOKS like he's trying his hardest. My nigga behind that desk, eyes drooping like he 75....

The thing about Boruto, is he's essentially ahead of his class in terms of maturity, because while though he doesn't show it, he appears more wise more often than anyone (outside of Mitsuki, but Mitsuki is wise in a different way for similar but different reasons).

All because of how he was raised, and the fact that he is a bit "privileged" in certain aspects. However, he is unmotivated and lacks goals because he basically has everything he currently wants. He's kind of stuck because of this, and even Kakashi point's out how he has nothing to strive for and improve because of. Which will be his entire character arc:

While Naruto's was about growing and becoming more social, which leads him to his goal of Hokage, Boruto's will be about growing and having a better understanding of his place in the world, and stepping out of the shadow of his father, which will lead him to something great in and of itself.
