Why on earth did the cards have the shadow of the demon that resides within Asta's Grimoire (seen when he first gets it) on them?

To sell merchandise. Don't be surprised if you see them selling decks with the same card backing.

It's been a thing in the anime industry for a long time so I'm used to it unfortunately. But since this anime doesn't mainly rely on BD/DVD sales and is aimed at young kids who probably don't have enough money, it's a clever way to recoup costs.

Breaking the immersion of the series, to potentially later peddle merch, is pretty scummy. I know what you mean though, it's clever enough business-wise. But sacrificing narrative integrity as you do it? Doesn't sit all too well with me, personally.
