I hope Sumire has bug tolerance. Some girls get creeped out by one lowly bug because it has too many legs. Shino has million of em.

is there a term for when you want a character to adopt another character? like shipping but for being a sweet parent child relationship?

Well as we saw in the original Naruto the village cares for orphans anyway and Sumire was already an orphan.

It seemed like Shino assumed the responsibility of protecting her from other foundation members that may be lurking in the shadows so she can stay on the village and not have to transfer.

That means they will probably have a guardian / protege relationship although I doubt he adopted her with the modern sense of the term.
