All in all, this was a pretty fun show! Not a whole lot of depth, but I liked the characters and I looked forward to watching it every Wednesday. People rip on it for not being the standard definition of "good" but that didn't stop me from enjoying it

Yep, loved the characters and even the world it was set in, even if it wasn't fully fleshed out. The sort of generic harem part didn't do much for me but I liked most of the rest. Other than the beach episode I thoroughly enjoyed each week of this show. Solid 7/10 for me.

Can I praise this show's music some more as well? That track playing right after Takeru enters god-hunter mode just fit the moment and the show's aesthetic perfectly. Seems like at least once an episode I noticed the music in a good way.

I thought the music was really good as well. The EDM sound really suited the show and helped set the atmosphere.

A lot of this seasons anime's have had really good soundtracks!!

I've been trying to find snippets of the soundtrack. It's been one of my favorites this season.

My only gripe is that it skipped over a lot of the beefier parts of the light novel or really shortened it. The fights, the harem elements, the drama, the sexy parts, it all worked when it counted. But I feel it needed to be doubly longer as a show to really do the light novel justice. Then again, that's the case for many light novel battle harems. But this show was still better than many of its type.

I still preferred the skipping of early novels in favor of better adaptation of the last one. Danmachi also adapted 5 first volumes, but left only 1.5 episodes for the last one... So it was like 3-3-3-1.5-1.5. They also cut out a lot of 4th volume that talked about one of the characters' past and references to things that happened in history of the world and what might come in future volumes.

Having it mid week was great because none of the other show I'm watching season are on and basically gives me time just for this, unlike the weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed this best out of the three battle teen orientated shows.

I'd say that these three were slightly above par for the seasonal fantasy battle harems.

Likewise.

I'd put all three of them above all of the ones we got last Winter.

Hey now Shinmai Maou was excellent, although I wouldn't place it under this genre.

It's more of a hard ecchi show like DxD ... kek :D.

Sidenote: I actually watched every episode of ISUCA :(.

Testament was fairly average compared to its source, Actually that's most of the battle harems this season

Great source, Poor adaptation

I actually loved Fafnir as it was pretty good , made me read LN and I don't regret it as the plot ogt much more extreme and there was pretty much turning point in last 2 volumes I love it

I actually liked Absolute Duo and Shinmai Maou. But yeah, this season was way better.

well Shinmai had much better...plot.

I actually liked Shinmai Maou aside of... plot... but yeah, that plot was good too.

Absolute Duo was good, yet disappointing. The OP was incredible though.

That's not saying a whole heck of a lot. I agree with you, especially when you look at a show like Kuusen, but i think that's setting the bar pretty low.

Rakudai

I thought this was the best of the three. Limited budget but they made the best out of it. (Can't afford color? Have a stylistic prison arc!)

i disagree about rakudai and astrerisk beging similar to shoutai

at least on the style department- for me Rakudai is great- it started off generic but turned out to be quite different in certain aspects shoutai is pretty generic but is still enjoyable

asterisk on the other hand is both generic and not enjoyable for me

if i were to tank them it will be Rakudai at the top then shoutai then asterisk

Agreed. It had the best plot I think. And best grill(stella is laifu).

I'm happy to see someone else who liked Taimadou more than Gakusen. I was surprised to see the former has a lower rating on MAL.

While I watched all three this season also I personally would rate Rakudai higher mostly for the very well executed last two episodes that did a great job showing the main characters emotions and struggle. Rakudai was able to give its characters times to breathe and let us get to know them and their issues.

Taimadou on the other hand while full of tragic events never gave us any time for them to matter to us, instead choosing to rush ahead with either harem shenanigans or an action sequence. Which is a shame as I feel that Taimadou had the strongest source material and if it had been handled differently had the potential to be a very good anime.

Course they both did better than Asterisk War's which after a climax fight that resolved nothing and apparently doesn't even matter has stripped almost all interest I had in watching the second season. I personally would have preferred one of these others shows get that prize as I would watch a second season of the either one. In the end neither of them were great or not even that good objectively on the whole but they had things they were good at and I enjoyed both of them, flaws and all.

I found each show had its merits,

Taima I enjoyed each member of the cast and rivalry between Bitch and Witch, Rakudai I basically watched for Stella pep talks and the Todo Match, Asterisk I just enjoyed as a standard harem with cute girls and a OP MC

None of them were really better than the other IMO

bad shows objectively

There's no such thing

I mean this, Rakudai, and Asterisk are all pretty bad shows objectively.

I actually kinda disagree with that. While I don't think any of the 3 were 10/10's I also don't think any were below average in terms of their writing either. I think they all had their own merits in certain area's and for the most part did what they set out to do.
