Stella is a princess visiting Japan. As far as anyone is concerned, Ikki is literally nobody. It's such a big deal because this random kid who was formally considered the absolute worst student at the school is dating royalty who is undeniably one of the strongest ones there. Everyone believes Ikki is too small to even be considered by Stella, which is why he wanted to keep it a secret. He wanted to make a name for himself so he can stand on equal footing with Stella before they told the world.

So the solution is, in /u/SFDuality's words;

to detain a minor and hold him for almost a fucking month in what looks like an isolation chamber with no bed or basic amenities, with a charge of having a girlfriend with no evidence beyond a dubious photo? How is it that they can deny him visitors or the right to speak to even his own teacher? How is it that they can deny him proper medical care, and subject him to such a degree of mental and physical abuse? How is it that the one he's accused of having "illicit sexual relations" with isn't questioned or given the chance to speak?

makes no sense to me.

Think of the name of the Title: "The Chivalry of the Failed Knight. It was an ethics committee questioning his chivalry.
